It's not great, but perhaps manages to transport the viewer to the 'scene of the crime', as it were. I hope so, anyway.
Combining a day in the hills with landscape photography isn't always harmonious.
I'd often be halted at points where 'things' would fall into place - except that the light at that point in time could have been better. Awaiting something closer to optimum isn't always possible: the cold will begin to penetrate & a vague feeling of increasing seriousness sets in, especially when the underfoot snow conditions do their best to slow you down. Progress along a high ridge in winter is obviously of some concern - & there were many moments where I had to sacrifice the shot just to 'feel' like I was getting somewhere.
Finding a cool back alley to pose and show off my new outfit, a little attitude goes a long way.

These birds may be the hardest working foragers in the bird kingdom. They are the first bird to start singing at dawn, and the last birds to quit their worm-pulling at sundown!
I was on my belly to get this low angle. This perspective allows the viewer a more intimate interaction with the bird, seeing the world as they see it.

Thank you to the viewers who gave me their thoughts on my "Sunset Poll - HELP" post of yesterday. It made for some very interesting reading and got me thinking. The poll continues. :)
This photograph is from the same area, but was taken in between the two times of the photos in the poll.
A camera simply doesn't have the dynamic light range of a person's eye and brain. I thought to present the photo as close to what I was seeing at the time. So, this image has been lightly processed as a single image HDR.

Taken in Raw through a tree where this small beam of light was just crossing over the Ladybird, again a two image process in raw one for the ladybird to reduce highlights that were over-exposed and the second for the background to recover some detail as under-exposed both due to the camera light meter being totally confused and not reading the light properly, if I had taken in Jpeg believe the image would have been a right-off, slowly getting the hang of it I think. Shall have to invest in some sort of macro lighting, time to start saving. Aidy BEST VIEWED LARGE

Our local news station shows photo's from viewers when they do the weather forecast, on Wed Dianne the weather Lady put out a challenge to show some stormy weather, I thought I would have a go and send one in, to my surprise it was shown on the T.V. : )))
Again and again amazing how gentle and soothing these pictures are to the viewer, although the situation when I made this picture was anything but gentle and peaceful. This picture was created in hard wind and nearly horizontal snowfall, when the snow flew by in my face and on the lens I had to protect my equipment with all imaginable means from the wet. it was almost impossible just to think about photographing in these conditions but yet I shot my best pictures in the snowstorm and was always amazed by the result. I always enjoy doing it because I love these pictures, moods and adventures really much.

We haven't really had much proper winter weather yet this year, apart from one night when it briefly snowed and then melted very quickly. So I have had to go back a couple of years for a seasonal image this year. This was the view one cold and pale morning looking north along the main ridge of the Malvern Hills from the ice covered Iron Age Hill Fort that is Herefordshire Beacon towards Worcestershire Beacon in the distance on the left.

At first I had reservations about photographing the beggar alone. I didn't want to take advantage of his situation and act against my principles. But when the lady next to him entered the stage, everything changed. She stood for maybe everything the beggar did not have: wealth, happiness and the chocolate side of life. This contrast between the two people gave the photo a socially critical expression.
Through this contrast, a message is conveyed to the viewer. The photo shows that life is not fair and that there is a gap between people that cannot always be overcome. It challenges the viewer to think about social conditions and to show solidarity with those who are on the worse side.
Art is also communication. It is not only about visual appeal, but also about making a statement. Contrasts are a powerful tool to create meaning in an image and convey a message. This is exactly what I wanted to show with this photo, which I took in Aix-en-Provence in France in the summer of 2017.

Digging deep for this one. A 2014 jolly to Florence and when we got to the top of the Duomo belltower I was really struck by the contrast between the ancient building and this Jetson's style viewer.

As many of you know, I have a "thing" for grouse. I find them endlessly entertaining, particularly if they don't notice you. This fellow was after fresh leaves. I can only imagine that it tasted like dessert because Spruce Grouse eat mostly needles from spruce trees.

Taken on the same trip to Canada as the wonky glass pane one.
This was in a small town about 2.5 hours north of Quebec City where we went to see the annual migration of whales, took a little boat trip and we saw lots, some breaching right next to the boat.
I got a lot of photos of whales backs and tails, far more interesting to see in person. ;-)
This however is in the early morning taken from the coast.
btw, the friend I mentioned in the long walk photo is doing wonderfully well.
She's recovered and so the future surgery will be the laproscopic, less extreme one.
I'll be coming back on flickr in bits and pieces of time.

Het sleutelwoord daarbij is ‘lijkt’. Want, vindt Bonello, niets is onmogelijk als je het maar graag genoeg wil. Run Beyond is een werk dat gaat over de sprong die we in ons leven allemaal moeten maken: de sprong naar de vrijheid. Welke vrijheid zegt Bonello er niet bij, dat is aan de toeschouwer om uit te maken.
Amsterdam Light Festival - Quiz question: what is the world record long jump? Run Beyond by Angelo Bonello lures that question, because the jump that the man in this work is, seems an impossible distance. The key word here is ' seems '. Because, Bonello, nothing is impossible if you but gladly enough will. Run Beyond is a work that deals with the lead that we all need to make in our lives: the jump to freedom. What freedom says Bonello is not listed, that's up to the Viewer to decide.
I love the title of this work by Arcangelo Sassolino. It allows the viewer to create their own meaning. In principle though, this kinetic sculpture illustrates the forces of physics that push material objects to their limits. The weight of that rock threatens to break the glass plate on which it sits. The shadows and reflection all add to the mysterious nature of the work as the rock seems to be floating on air.

This moment had me thinking of the old Jiffy Pop Popcorn. The sky appears filled with the popping corn, while below a burner is hot from the element on a stove. The thought helped me think of what was important to the narrative and the composition then followed.
I often stress that finding a story is important to an image. After doing so, the compositional elements fall into place. Next time you are out, try thinking of a narrative before the composition. That way you may create a more emotional image, one that may also translate to the viewer.
