I'm not very fond of change but after attending a class where I learned about the new Alchemy viewer I wanted to try it. I decided to take a picture right out of the box and was impressed. Just think what this can do when I learn all the settings. Thank you, Christian Carter, Wren Carling Parker and the Grove Art Center for a very informative class.
Younger viewers will need to 'Google' what I'm on about here, but in this case it was 'Proper Job' & 'Harvey's Best' which provided the inspiration for this shot through a double set of diamond frames in the footbridge at Amberley station.
A 12 coach 'Electrostar' formation, led by 377 149, rolls in with a Sunday afternoon working from Portsmouth Harbour & Bognor Regis to Victoria.
Despite it being a Sunday afternoon, both platforms have a healthy amount of passengers. Some would be walkers, some would have visited the Clalk Pits Museum, and one or two would have spent a pleasant afternoon in the nearby 'Bridge Inn' pub.

Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna is a bald eagle hot-spot several months of the year and I've seen photographers there who travel some distance to visit as there are sometimes several dozen or more eagles there. One of the classic shots most would like to capture is the eagle grabbing a fish from the river. Unfortunately there can be long waits between these events if they occur at all. I understand why these shots are so interesting. Its because there are times where things happen so fast that you can't see what happens moment to moment. But photography stops time, enabling us to see something we otherwise couldn't.
Here a bald eagle has hit the water, the resultant spray is still rising, and there are hints of the fish in the spray that the eagle has grabbed with its right claw. It's only in subsequent images that I learned whether this was a successful grab or not. I leave that to the viewer to determine what that future was... (a thought experiment). However, I love this image for the reflection which seems to balance the asymmetry of the eagles wings as it flies forward.
Taken 13 November 2016 at Conowingo Dam.

The photo is about a forest with big trees. Some people are gossiping with each other under these trees and they are looking very tiny under these trees. These trees are silent viewers. And these people are standing in the middle of the frame. And it attracted my eyes to capture this photo.
First, I apologize to any viewer who has recently been bereaved. My uploading this image was never intended to cause any distress. I wished to show what you can buy while out shopping at an international warehouse club in Sydney.
From your first born's crib onto children's clothing through to work wear uniforms, you can select easy recliner chairs, walking sticks and wheelchairs. Then the final piece of furniture that you'll rest in can be purchased ahead of "time" so that you can get to choose it's style rather than trust your relatives taste.

Giving the Black Dragon Viewer a pop .. Im reasonably impressed with it. I didn't think it was too bad to use once you get your head around where things are. There are heaps of options but they do come with explainations of possible effects if you hover over them which makes playing around a bit easier. This was only a quick play but it gave a nice result.
I made two settings. One uber low for when I log in so my computer doesn't die and one for photography that I can switch to when taking pictures, then I can switch between both while staging and taking pictures and its less stress on the computer. I do this for Firestorm too :)
Excuse the body gloss lol I forgot to turn it down on the HUD

Stick populations have been in steady decline since Sunday, when we introduced this natural predator to the Keshet ecosystem. This graphic image shows what can happen to a stick when it weakens and falls to the ground.
Another from the nearly sunny day at the park. The plantings often make great shapes and textures for the pleasure of the viewer.
Here are these same Hydrangea bushes in the summer:

This is Minerva, the screech owl. The challenge is to get a good shot of her face, but with no fencing that would distract the viewer. The sunlight was helpful on this day!

A little bit different view of the skyline from out at Adler. I wanted to do something a little different than the typical pano and full skyline shot we all do from out here. On a different note, check out my most recent blog on: Two Contrasting Portrait Styles

News reports confirm that the expected Aurora borealis displays across the northern US and most of Canada two nights ago were "disappointing" for most viewers. I drove out to the park just before 11 pm and can concur. Faint, amorphous bands of colour did appear to the north, but there were no dancing, shifting veils of light, despite clear skies.
Allowing myself to feel letdown, however, would have cast a negative glow on the night. I looked around: the sky was magnificent. After days of heat, a cool breeze gusted across the prairie, blowing my hat off three times. I finally tossed it into the back seat of my car. Even wearing a down vest, I was a little too cool (I won't say cold), and grateful for it.
In the Frenchman River Valley, within park boundaries, is an old corral dating back to the days of the 76 Ranch. Established in 1887, this Saskatchewan cattle empire sprawled over 100,000 acres, one of the largest outfits to take advantage of the last open range in the decades before homesteaders poured into the area. Its days were numbered. In the disastrous winter of 1906-07 they lost two thirds of their cows, and were never the same again. The holdings were permanently broken up and sold off in 1921.
Parks Canada has allowed this structure to remain, like a few other historic buildings within park boundaries. How much longer it can withstand the severe northern prairie climate is anyone's guess; I'm grateful to have the option of using it in photos like this.
I boosted the ISO to 6400 for this shot, applying some noise reduction in post processing. Even though the lights failed to dance, the green and violet glow was a touch not often seen - a little bonus for hauling my gear out to this remote location in the middle of the night.

Enjoy!
I know a lot of viewers are going to roll their eyes and say "oh boy, another goose." That would be a shame because even though they are so common they make a great subject to photograph.
