Here I am caught with my Panasonic video camera filming on Christmas Eve in 1984 - in full family mode. The video tape was located in a portable VHS player connected by a cable. Being the target of the video camera was known to piss off a few people back in the day - ha ha. DBD photo. Scanned from original color print.

I'm not sure if this was being broadcast live; there was a satellite truck behind me, the kind that does beam the signal to the network for live telecasting. This is apparently from some "Today" like show that gets the audience as part of the show. They were shooting from the main steps of Grand Park, where one crosses the street from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, taking one down to the park itself. I'm not sure why this particular spot was chosen; perhaps it was for L.A. City Hall to be deliberately in the background as some sort of gesture (quite possibly the middle finger gesture) to Donald Trump. Also, Telemundo's main studios are just down the street on Temple, several blocks behind me to the west.

OMG, video in 366 2008! (well, nearly) ...
Sharp VHS-C camcorder from 1990,
Panasonic 1080p SDHC digicam from 2008.
The battery for the Sharp weighs almost as much as the Panasonic.
Screen resolution of VHS was about 330x480 and for the full HD Panasonic it is 1080x1920.
Even ignoring the effects of inflation, the Panasonic, new, is less than half the price I paid for the Sharp (make that a third bearing in mind the wondrous eBay).

How wise it is! Sony's has the recording button (red one) in the monitor side too.
What is it for ?
It makes easy to take a picture of baby or pet with low angle.
Besides in Japan, it become very popular that keeping the pet recently.
My old video camera had some problems that seemed to be a bad connection. So since I had a new camera and hadn't used this one for some time I thought I could just as well crack it open and go over all the connectors inside. And it did actually work better after I put it back together again!

Around town with my new lens.
A new Best Buy opened up in Mountain View. I guess people figure it is too hard to drive an extra half mile and fight the Ikea traffic to the one in East Palo Alto.
One nice thing about this Best Buy is that it is more “upscale.” For instance, they have a mini-Magnolia inside this one. The problem is it is tiny.
What I liked is that they’re stocked with the latest equipment and all the stuff is plugged in, powered up, and working. What I hated was that there was nobody there so the salesperson to customer ratio made it so that I was asked every 12 seeconds if I needed help.
Caitlin finally got to see the HDR-HC3, the replacement to her HDR-HC1. She likes her camera better. As she likes to joke: without the lens hood, the HC3 “doesn’t look as pro” as her HC1 (which also has a couple extra manual controls on the barrel).
Gotta love the 18-200mm VR. Handheld shot as a 200mm macro and the only retouch I had to do was heal away the hot pixel on my CCD.

A friend wanted to see what the black one looks like. Now you know!
P.S. I LOVE it. Nothing simpler.
Safety Vision's SV-640 dome camera's mounted over the driver's seat and in the middle of the bus to view all students riding the bus.
Safety Vision project manager Andre Morgan takes on a customized installation project for Proforma Safety International's "S.W.A.T." (Safe Work Awareness Team) HUMMER. The installation entailed mounting four mobile video safety cameras, two in-cab LCD monitors, and associated cabling and camera control boxes. Proforma required a system that includes two rear-facing side-view cameras; one rear-facing backup camera; one forward-facing PathFindIR thermal imaging camera; one quad-screen 7-inch LCD monitor displaying feed from the side- and rear-view cameras; one 5.6-inch LCD monitor displaying feed from the grill-mounted thermal imaging camera; and two control boxes mounted beneath the rear seat. This is a thorough collision avoidance safety job, well done!
