This kite made its first flight recently bearing an impossibly small videocamera aloft. Unfortunatly it was blowing a gale so the pictures were not brilliant. But watch this space.

When The Elders toured Ireland that time, there was a documentary filmed by Benjamin Meade called, "Alive & Live in Ireland" (I think that was the title). It was fun to be a part of that,

Video Camera on the stern promade deck of the Diamond Princess. I like the wiper. On this cruise we needed one on our cameras and glasses.

The UB3 Recoil is the ultimate shoulder mounted rig for the indie filmmaker on the go. It includes our Universal Baseplate V3, a QR Shoulder Pad, and the Recoil Handgrip Kit – a unique mechanical handgrip follow focus set up. The Universal Baseplate is compatible with all flat bottom video cameras including the Panasonic AF-100, Sony F3, Sony FS100, HVX200 and other cameras of this size.
This Recoil kit is designed to be used with an offset monitor or viewfinder like the Zacuto EVF. (Not included.) Want to attach our Zacuto Z-Finder EVF Pro? Add an Axis EVF Mount.
Zacuto’s Universal Baseplate includes 12” female/female threaded rods (15mm in diameter lightweight spaced) to hold accessories like a lens support. The rods can be extended to add batteries and articulating arm kits at the back of the plate. The Universal Baseplate mounts to the camera with a 1/4 20" screw and a locking pin (other mounting options available) and it attaches to the tripod plate with both 3/8 16" and 1/4 20" screws.
Directly underneath the Universal Baseplate is the ZacutoQR Shoulder Pad. The QR Shoulder Pad puts the camera directly on top of your shoulder for balance and comfort. It sets the camera in the correct position so your eye can comfortably reach the Sony viewfinder. The QR Shoulder Pad is a two part system that includes the shoulder pad itself and a separate dovetail plate that screws into the bottom of your camera or baseplate just like an ordinary tripod plate. The QR Shoulder Pad attaches, changes positions, and detaches from the dovetail plate with a quick release lever. The dovetail plate can act as a traditional tripod plate and snap directly into a tripod, monopod, slider or other standard piece of equipment with the Zacuto Tripod Adapter Plate(not included) or other quick release plate.*
Instead of traditional handgrips, this rig includes our Recoil Handgrip Kit. The Recoil Handgrip Kit is comprised of aZgrip Z-Mount Zwivel handgrip, a Z-Drive follow focus and the Zacuto Tornado grip. The Zgrip Z-Mount Zwivel is a complete single handgrip set up that slides and clamps onto a single 15mm rod. The rod attached to the handle is 4.5” long. The Zacuto Z-Drive is a unique, universal follow focus, perfect for a Recoil rig set up. It curves away from the operator at a 60 degree angle creating space and distance from the lens for comfortable use when the camera is on your shoulder. It comes with a fixed 1 ¾” diameter .8 pitch gear to connect to your lens. The Tornado attaches to the Z-Drive whip port and works in tandem with the Z-Drive to create a unique mechanical follow focus handgrip perfect for single operator shoulder mounted work.
If your lenses are not pitched to .8 you can add a Zipgear.
* The dovetail plate included with this shoulder pad is compatible with Zacuto’s Tripod Adapter Plate, Kessler and Really Right Stuff equipment.
PLEASE NOTE: This shoulder mounted kit cannot be used with a mattebox.

Whilst staying at Supper Cove Hut in Dusky Sound we had the good fortune to be offered some hospitality on the Karaka, which was moored temporarily nearby. This photo was taken from the deck of the boat towards the hut.
Perhaps the greatest treat we indulged in were hot showers, an unheard of luxury on any tramping trip, yet alone in the darkest depths of Fiordland. I tell you, washing off 6 days of mud, sweat, blood and sandfly carcasses and getting clean had never felt so good.
We were also treated to a huge feast of groper, caught fresh off the Sound. Heaven!
We still had 4 days walking to go after this, but alas I haven't got any photos worth sharing beyond this point, as rain and snow conditions returned.

The Amino Acids played a short but very sweet set, which was the point at which the most SubGenii gathered together in one spot. There were many people here we never saw during the rest of our X-Day experience. So WHERE WERE THEY the rest of the time?
BACKSTORY: After 20 years of interest in the Church Of The SubGenius, I finally got to go to X-Day! Praise "Bob"! A SubGenius MUST have SLACK -- and I was finally getting it when needed the most.

Took these a while back, hiking on Windy Hill. It has a camera and was wicked fast, zipping high and low over otherwise inaccessible terrain and able to hover as well. Has wireless so the video is transmitted direct to the owners laptop. I want one (or 4)! We were really impressed with it and the owner driving it, until as it was landing he said "Oh sh*t!" and explained in his excitement he left the battery door open, so it blocked the camera during the whole flight and he didn't check his laptop while he was controlling it
Violet was laughing her head off until I took out the videocamera; then she seemed more interested in the videocamera than in being tickled.
The guy behind had a Nikon (and very sharp elbows!) I don't know about the video camera guy but he was very popular with the young ladies......
This was taken on the boat we went on to see the Pilot Whales, Chico was entertainment for the children, because rocking along at a 45 degree angle watching your parents throw up wasn't entertainment enough apparently, although when my lens cap fell overboard and I said a naughty word even those kids who didn't have english as a first language laughed !
