Trees of the Versatile Building during their first growing season.
In early 2013, 410 Silva Cell frames and 210 Silva Cell decks were installed outside of the Versatile Building on 3rd Street and Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver, British Columbia to support 10 new trees. The Silva Cell system also allows the trees and soil to manage stormwater on-site.

Exhibition featuring the versatility of plywood. My personal opinion is that this was a pretty half-hearted gesture towards the V&A's origins as a 'Museum of Manufacture' Given that plywood goes back 2500 years the exhibition could've been much more comprehensive? Bet they would've tried a great deal harder if it had been an exhibition of Paris Couture.
I had the same sinking feeling as when I was in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery seeing visitors thronging around a mock-up of cave-dewellers' life. Turning I noticed a modest glass cabinet containing if not the original, a mock-up of Randall and Boot's Cavity Magnetron - a device [ created at Birmingham, not Oxford or Cambridge University ] which pitchforked centrimetric radar, and the world, into the modern age, and played an enormous part in winning WW2. It was a bit like finding the Mona Lisa in a broom cupboard. It should've had a whole gallery and celebration to itself, screaming its significance to the rooftops.
But it gets worse...

Versatility and a willingness to experiment give Moxon the impetus and ability to tackle a wide variety of projects.
In 2005 Moxon was the youngest practice selected for the Corus Steel Architects’ Journal 40 Under 40 Awards for the best young architectural firms in the UK.
They were shortlisted schemes in the Architecture Foundation’s competition to design a series of kiosks for Meridian Square, Stratford – the gateway to the Olympic Park. And recently, Moxon won an international design competition, launched by Boris Johnson, to find ‘The Ultimate Drinking Fountain’ for London's eight Royal Parks.
The practice actively cultivates an inquisitive and exploratory design process in all its projects – we try not to adopt preconceived ideas for the design or use of the urban environment but rather seek to look at problems on an individual basis. This approach helps the practice to arrive at functionally smart solutions for projects as modest as house extensions or as prominent as public museum facilities.
This investigative tendency is combined with a fascination for architectural effect and beauty. The practice firmly believes in the notion that sustainability in building should be as much about long term appeal as it is about energy use and materiality.
