Spring is a very interesting time for birdwatching as birds setup nests, find mates, settle down here after flights from the South. This Brown Thrasher was a bit tough to spot with similar colors as that of the branches around. It hardly moved and was also perched up high. Its sweet songs that were of longer duration helped with tracking. I haven't heard of any other bird around here that can sing like this one could.

The Brown Thrasher is considered one of North America's most versatile vocalists, with a repertoire that may include more than 1000 different song types.

You can identify a Brown Thrasher by its habit of repeating each melodic phrase exactly twice. They are expert mimics that incorporate the calls of other birds into their own songs. Common imitations include the Northern Flicker, Wood Thrush, and Northern Cardinal.

Males sing most frequently in early spring (starting in March or April) to establish territories and attract mates. Singing typically tapers off once they have paired and begun nesting. When singing their complex songs, males often choose the highest perches available, such as the top of a tree, to project their melodies

Selby is a "Multicat" type of versatile workboat, often used in dredging, port construction, and other shallow-water operations. These vessels are known for their box-shaped hull, shallow draft, and open deck, typically featuring a crane and winches. They are designed for a variety of tasks including towing, anchor handling, and general support work. In this case servicing a buoy.

Multicats typically have a wide, rectangular hull, providing stability and a large working deck. They are designed to operate in shallow waters, often with drafts under 2.5 meters. Twin or Triple Screw Propulsion provides manoeuvrability and allows for shallow draft operation. The open deck provides ample space for cargo, equipment, and personnel. Multicats are often equipped with at least one hydraulic crane, such as a Palfinger PK23500MC with a 23t.m capacity used for lifting and handling operations. They also typically feature one or two winches for towing, anchor handling, and other lifting tasks.

Multicats common applications include assisting in dredging operations by transporting equipment, materials, and personnel. Aiding in the construction and maintenance of port infrastructure. Towing and anchor handling services in various marine environments. Assisting with the installation and upkeep of mooring systems. And providing a platform for various other marine support activities.

Navigation buoys are essential aids to navigation, marking channels, hazards, or specific locations for mariners.

Servicing a buoy typically involves a range of maintenance tasks to ensure its proper functioning and longevity. This can include:

* Inspection: Checking for damage, wear and tear, and the condition of ancillary equipment like lights, sensors, and power systems.

* Cleaning: Removing marine growth and debris that can affect performance or accelerate wear.

* Repairs and Replacements: Addressing any identified issues, such as repairing structures, replacing worn parts, or upgrading components like solar packages or telemetry systems.

* Re-deployment: Ensuring the buoy is correctly positioned and its mooring system is secure after servicing.

Multicats range in size from around 12 meters to over 35 meters in length. Some larger Multicats may also be equipped with Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems. Smaller Multicats can be transported by road, making them suitable for river and port work. In essence, Multicats are versatile workhorses of the marine industry, valued for their adaptability and shallow-draft capabilities in a variety of demanding roles.

Selby here is on Loch Ness which is a large freshwater loch located in the Scottish Highlands, renowned for its association with the legendary Loch Ness Monster, often referred to as Nessie. By volume, it is Scotland's largest lake, approximately 32 kilometres long and up to 213 metres deep. It is most famous for the myth of the Loch Ness Monster, a creature believed to inhabit its depths. It is a beautiful loch with calm waters surrounded by lush green hills and is part of the Caledonian Canal system, connected by a series of locks.

Loch Ness takes its name from the River Ness, which flows from the northern end. Loch Ness lies along the Great Glen Fault, which forms a line of weakness in the rocks which has been excavated by glacial erosion, forming the Great Glen and the basins of Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness.

This northern end of Loch Ness is around 10 kilometres south-west of Inverness, with Fort Augustus located at the other end. The main A82 road between Inverness and Fort William, roughly follows the western shore, passing through the villages of Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston.

Loch Ness is one of the largest in Scotland, and the whole of Great Britain. It has the greatest volume, and is the second-deepest and second-largest by surface area.

I have always marveled at how perfectly straight the rows are in farm fields. I understand that in today's ag operations there are GPS guidance systems designed especially for tractors that keep the row as straight as possible, sometimes even having an auto steer feature. Fascinating. This field looks like it's ready for this year's crop to grow.

A chore sent me into a closet with a lot of ignored content. These have 2006 expiration dates...

CC Most Versatile - Event Photography

The Highlands Ranch Holiday Celebration returned to the Highlands Ranch Mansion this year. The temp was mild, the sky was clear...all that was missing was some snow!

I don't have much experience with Event Photography so I just tried to capture a little of everything. I took around 200 shots during the morning and ended up with maybe 5 decent ones, lol! It was pretty tough to get shots without somebody's head, arm, or butt (!) intruding on the scene. C'est la vie. : )

Recently, I bought a new Mobile phone... At $499 it's smaller than the one it's replaced (which was $1800 but I didn't buy it!), and: it came equipped with either a variety of cameras, or cameras that had more than one function. In other words, it seemed versatile! There was (and is):

* a standard everyday use Default camera,

* a "Pro" camera,

* a "Panorama" camera (which can either be used as a Fisheye Lens, or as a Wide Angle Lens,

* a Macro camera,

* a Video camera, and

* a Food(!) camera...

Oh and it will take Selfies of course, but I wont be using THAT function!!!

So the pre-sale blurb sounded good, but alas: the Default camera was very disappointing; I quickly discovered there was at least a one second delay between pressing the shutter button and hearing the shutter 'click'! (I got a lovely photo of a Gull's wing-tip as it fluttered off a picnic table!).

Yes, definitely disappointing - and not a scratch on the quality of the photos the old phone took...! It was surely time to move The Chip back into that older model...!

However... I was about to make the changeover yesterday, but decided I'd better at least try the Macro "feature"... And unlike the so-called Default camera, the Macro responded immediately, and: what-a-you-know...!!! The results were rather - well - pleasing...! I might just hang on to this new phone for a little while longer!

I have no idea what this flower is, but it's rather pretty - and I managed to photograph it before 5 year old granddaughter Grace spotted it later in the day (growing through our boundary fence), and picked it for her new teacher...!

FOOTNOTE:- Flickr Friend David Nice - DaveSPN - has identified this flower as an "Elegant Lady - Belladonna Lily"; thanks Dave!

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave a Comment, Folks. It's always nice to hear from you...!

The versatile C-45 family of transport and trainer aircraft began life in 1937 as the Beechcraft Model 18 light twin. The Model 18s were widely accepted by commercial aviation operators as a good economical short haul transport prior to the war. The Army Air Corps saw its commercial success and ordered 11 aircraft prior to the beginning of World War II. At the outbreak of the war, the Army Air Corps ordered the C-45 into production. Although used primarily as a transport aircraft, the C-45 was also produced in the AT-7 navigational training, AT-11 bombardier/gunnery training and the F-2 photo reconnaissance trainer versions. By the end of the war, Beech had built 4,526 examples of the C-45 and its variants.

I think this is the first airplane that I've actually completed. I started a C-47, Mosquito and F-22 but unfortunately they have remained WIPs. I am attracted to graceful aircraft an the Twin-Beech is absolutely beautiful. I plan on building more in different color schemes so stay tuned. (I also have about five models/ builds to upload)

Thanks for looking!

Smart Hawker Siddeley Andover XS644 of 115 Squadron at RAF Wyton in 1983. The aircraft started life with the RAF as a C.1 transport and was converted to an E.3 for radio and airport navigation aid calibration duties. The fuselage doors and rear ramp are open, showing the versatility of this small transport aircraft for carrying cargo and passengers. The main undercarriage could kneel to help with loading and unloading through the rear ramp. Note also the rear prop to prevent it being a tail-sitter :o)
