No matter the weather, the curve at Vergas never disappoints. With this years ice slightly less safe, we decided to shoot the Holiday Train from the other side of the tracks.
A friendly wave from the engineer as the 498 rolls on past. approaching Vergas as they round Elbow Lake. They were losing speed at this point as just moments before this the second unit (NS 8379) had just conked out on them. They would then sit in Vergas for nearly two hours before continue to the east much to the chagrin of railfans down the line.

At the entrance to the church, Turiddu has a long stare at Lola, his former fiancee but now married to Alfio (Giovanni Grasso). They have a secret relationship. When Santuzza (Tina Xeo), Alfio's present girlfriend, pleads, even falls her on her knees for him, begging not to follow the other woman, but he throws her on the ground. Santuzza is scorned. Revenge is the result...Santuzza will inform Alfio of the adultery of his wife.
Tina Xeo (1897/1902-1992) was a Neapolitan or Sicilian film actress who between 1916 and 1926 almost only played in the films by her - eventual - husband Mario Gargiulo, at his Roman company Flegrea Films.
After following the eastbound shown in the previous shot, I discovered a meet would take place at Vergas, one of the few places where trains could meet. This was in that area where a knowledge of the local roads is handy! Once the CP 9020 East had arrived at Vergas, this CP westbound freight #561 with 118 cars departed, behind an SD40 and SD40-2 (5508-5818.) Before long it rounded a curve where the Minnesota state bird, the Loon, would be right at home.
