On March 13, 2006, Mary and I visited the Rainbow Springs State Park. The Variable Dancer damselfly (Argia fumipennis) ranges through northern and central Florida, according to the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Florida. This little one had come to rest on the ground beside a magnolia.

Female Variable Sunbird in the Japanese Lantern bush in our front yard. The male is much brighter, but unfortunately he's also more skittish and camera-shy.

A pair of variable oystercatchers, the same pair that bread last season, have again raised three chicks. The adults aggressively chase off any birds - of whatever variety - that come near.

One of the fully fledged chicks chases its parent for food.
