(Haematopus unicolor) A commonly seen oystercatcher on the New Zealand shoreline.

Cette espèce que j'adore a un comportement surprenant. D'abord craintif, après quelques minutes il décide qu'on ne représente pas un danger, mais plutôt une compagnie souhaitable pour la vigilance. Alors il s'approche jusqu'à une distance ridicule, parfois sous la limite focale. Ici il a longé le rivage vers moi jusqu'à me demander de m'enlever de son chemin et s'est résigné à voler pour me contourner.

This Oystercatcher was on a mission to who-knows-where; he was flying very low (Notice how close to the sand the bird's wingtips are), and he was flying fast - very fast...!
