Endemic and common in coastal habitats around the North and South Island and is much heavier than the South Island Pied Oystercatcher. The cool thing about this Oystercatcher is he will stand is ground and is not afraid to chase you away.

One of NZ's most distinctive and confiding shore birds - this pair were photographed on a cold winter day at Whangamata, where they were carefully aligned to capture every bit of warmth from the sun's rays...

Remember that time I made a V2 engine and said I was going to use for all sorts of test? I immediately made a new one.

With two camshafts and a bunch of fiddling around, I made an engine with a variable V angle between the cylinder banks.

Before I got to do this test, unfortunately, I found out that the optimal V angle changes for V2, V4, V6, V8, and so forth...

It is fascinating to see how fog bends light.

The closest species to a hummingbird in Africa is the sunbird. These beautiful little birds primarily feed on nectar, but they will also eat insects and spiders.

I was on my way up to Chivay in the Peruvian highland region heading toward the world's deepest canyon, the Colca Canyon. I stopped at a snack shop by the roadside when I spotted a Red-Backed Hawk sitting on the roof. I took out my camera to take a photo of the hawk when I saw a local guy throwing chicken parts up on the roof to feed the bird. I was fortunate to capture the hawk with widespread wings.

The Variable Hawk (Red-backed Hawk) prey on almost any small to medium-sized animals that can be caught, but smallish mammals comprise more than 90% of prey in some studies. The most commonly recorded prey includes cavies, tuco-tucos, rabbits, miceand paramo rats. Birds are sometimes taken. Other prey include other rodents &lagomorphs, frogs, lizards, snakes, and fish. The Variable Hawk hunts in the typical Buteo style: prey being spotted while soaring from the air and pinned on the ground.
