The snowpack is California's hills is arguably more valuable than gold, as it feeds much of the nation through the Central Valley's farms. View of somewhere in California, I'm guessing the Western Sierra, perhaps Kings Canyon in the National Park given the location and orientation, or the headwaters of the San Joaquin river. View from right side of the plane from PHX to SJC with phone. Update: Tom Hilton confirmed it's Kings Canyon, as per his comment below.

This is a companion photo to this one from my flight out.
Although not the most valuable object that I own, this is one of my most precious pieces. This is my Great Grandmother’s small Anglo-Indian jewellery box, which she brought back from India after she and my Grandfather finished a period in the diplomatic corps during the Raj just before the Great War. It is precious to me because it holds some of the most tangible memories I have of my Great Grandmother and my Grandmother. This sat on my Great Grandmother’s dressing table and housed some of her everyday jewellery. I remember visiting her and watching her take out her pearls and cameos and glittering rings when she was getting ready to receive visitors or to go out. Even when I hold it now or hear the rich sounds of the box lid as it closes, in my mind I can still smell her violet and lily of the valley perfumes and her cold cream. When she died, my Grandmother inherited it and it sat on her dressing table. When I hold it, I can hear her laugh as I played with the pearl necklaces, earrings and rings that she kept in there, including the Regency ebony and ivory earrings I called “Flora” and “Fauna”. The yellowing of the ivory is a sign of its advanced age, and its edges have been worn by many hands touching them over the last century: not least of all mine.
The theme for Smile on Saturday for the 15th of May is “full of memories”. The challenge was to search for something that brings back a certain memory, take a picture of it and share what memories it brings back for you. I have inherited so many items from my Grandparent’s estates that hold great sentimental value for me. The hard part for me about this challenge, was choosing one object out of the many. As I have used my Grandfather’s chess set several times before for other challenges in this group, I settled upon this beloved little jewellery box, which is full of memories.
The jewellery box itself is an Anglo-Indian (Indian made but designed for the British market who lived in India during the Raj) made in the 1890s. It is fashioned from ebony and rosewood with the most exquisite hand-made geometric marquetry inlay of ivory and mother of pearl. The detail photos show how intricate the geometric pattern is, and how perfectly each piece is fitted. This might impress you even more when you think that the box itself is ten and a half centimetres long, by six and half centimetres wide and four and a half centimetres deep. The ebony frames to the hexagons on the lid are one millimetre thick, the vertical rosewood bands on the ivory edge of the lid are half a millimetre in width, the smallest triangles on the sides each have sides of one millimetre in length and the triangles around the flowers on the lid have sides less than half a millimetre in length: and all of this was made with precision by hand by a master artisan more than a century ago.
It houses a valuable and quite comprehensive collection of Basque, Spanish and European art from the Middle Ages to contemporary, including paintings by old masters like El Greco, Cranach, Murillo, Goya, Van Dyck, Ruisdael and Bellotto, together with 19th century and modern: Sorolla, Mary Cassatt, Gauguin, Henri Le Sidaner, James Ensor, Peter Blake and Francis Bacon.

By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
"2.5 Seconds" series.
We're surrounded by plastic. While it has many valuable uses, we have become addicted to single-use or disposable plastic — with severe environmental consequences. It led to a throw-away culture and today, single-use plastics account for 40% of the plastic produced every year. Around the world, 1 million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year and then thrown away.
Plastics are inexpensive, and as a result, levels of plastic production by humans are enormous. An estimated 8 million tonnes of this plastic waste enters the Ocean every year. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world. Researchers estimate that more than 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced since the early 1950s. About 60% of that plastic has ended up in either a landfill or the natural environment.
Plastic is made from petroleum. It is so durable that the EPA reports “EVERY BIT OF PLASTIC EVER MADE STILL EXISTS”. It is very slow to degrade. It takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose! Over time, plastic does not biodegrade but breaks down into tiny particles known as microplastics leading to chemical contamination of the water and fish we eat. Microplastics are eaten by small marine animals and so enter the food chain ending up in human bodies! A 2017 study found that 83% of tap water samples taken around the world contained plastic pollutants. Research says YOU EAT A CREDIT CARD’S WORTH (5 grams) OF PLASTIC A WEEK!
ONLY 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. About 12% has been incinerated, while the rest 79% has accumulated in landfills, dumps or the natural environment. Cigarette butts (whose filters contain tiny plastic fibres), drink bottles, bottle caps, food wrappers, grocery bags, drink lids and straws are the most common type of plastic waste found in the environment. Many of us use these products every day, without even thinking about where they might end up.

Echium is a genus of approximately 70 species and several subspecies of flowering plant in the family Boraginaceae. The type species is Echium vulgare. Species of Echium are native to North Africa, mainland Europe to Central Asia and the Macaronesian islands, where it reaches its maximum diversity. Many species are used as ornamental and garden plants and may be found in suitable climates throughout the world. The seed oil from Echium plantagineum contains high levels of alpha linolenic acid (ALA), gamma linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA), making it valuable in cosmetic and skin care applications, with further potential as a functional food, as an alternative to fish oils. 26109
I have been to Walt Disney World 4 times since I got into photography. Each and every time I have been there I have used different equipment and gained valuable knowledge about how to capture better image.
Today's image is one of my favorites. Spaceship Earth is the symbol of Epcot. This image was on my short list of "must haves" from my August trip.
What images are "must haves" for you when visiting Walt Disney World?
Rings in the water
It is pretty cool
Have you ever thought about it
A word here
A word there
We aren't even aware of the impact we have upon others
It can be the word that turns everything around for the recipient
Suddenly it all comes in a new light
We must of course choose our words
But being silent is never the answer
We all have so many different things to come up with
Lots of valuable experience
So speak up
Don't be afraid to be a fellow human
Speaking up is caring too
Barbican’s Banksy artworks become permanent fixtures
Valuable works by graffiti artist Banksy will be preserved on the walls of a City exhibition centre.

The Citadel Alba Iulia • The Citadel (Cetatea Alba Iulia) - was built in between 1716 and 1735, using the Vauban military architectural system-the largest of this kind in Southeastern Europe. The fortress is outstanding both for its architectural elements and for the beauty of its six gates, unique in European military structures. About 7.2 miles of ramparts made of brick and quarry stones form a seven-point star shape with seven bastions guarded by six monumental gates (valuable samples of early baroque style).
Thanks for your visit and comments, I appreciate that very much!
Cozia Monastery, erected close to Căciulata by Mircea the Elder in 1388 and housing his tomb, is one of the most valuable monuments of national medieval art and architecture in Romania.
The name of the monastery is of Cuman origin and it means "walnut grove", from Turkic word koz, meaning walnut.[1] The original name of the place was the Romanian equivalent, Nucetul, but already in 1387, a document of Mircea cel Bătrân uses the current name.[1]
The fortified cloister dates from the foundation (1388) and is the only in Byzantine style preserved in Romania. The appearance of the church was modified under Neagoe Basarab (1517), Şerban Cantacuzino and Constantin Brâncoveanu (1707), who added a veranda, a new fountain, a chapel and a watch tower, adding to its architecture the 'brâncovenesc style'. Parish Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary this is the most valuable monument of Kościan.
It was built in 1333-56, originally as a three-aisle corpus and a single-nave presbytery. In the 15th and 16th centuries chapels were added to the body, the presbytery was extended and all the parts were added. covered with one gable roof. In 1547 the tower burnt, it was rebuilt in 1594. In 1711 the tower was damaged again, it collapsed and it was not rebuilt.
It is a gothic, hall-like building, made of brick, and various types of vaults were used in the church's construction.
Real jewels of sacred art are found in the interior, among others the main altar from 1620, the late Gothic triptych from 1507, the arched rainbow arch from 1734 and many other exhibits and side altars.
Due to its size and location among the dense buildings of the city is a difficult object to photograph from the outside.

Aquamarine stone - Aquamarine is a valued gem of ancient lineage. In the 19th century, sea green varieties of the stone were the most popular, but today, the more blue the color, the more valuable the stone. In 1910, the largest ever aquamarine was found in Brazil, weighing 243 pounds. It was then cut into smaller stones, yielding over 200,000 carats.

The Arkbri River has been a major trade route through the heart of Historica since ancient times. Where the great river meets the sea, the port city of Barqa is ideally positioned to connect the inland river shipping with the sea traders, making Barqa a major hub for trade between all corners of Historica.
To ensure a safe haven for the valuable shipping, fortifications guard the harbor and over time a strong harbor citadel has been built. A lighthouse has subsequently been built on top of the fortress - guiding seafarers safely into the port with its bright whitewashed walls by day, and with its fire at night.
Built for the Guilds of Historica 10 year anniversary challenge, in the category “Old but Gold” - revisiting an older build to demonstrate the progress as a builder over the years in GoH. Here is my original lighthouse build from 2014.
This is also my first module for the Swebrick GoH maritime collab project.

Narvik is the third-largest municipality in Nordland county, Norway by population. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Narvik.
Narvik is located on the shores of the Ofotfjorden.
The history of Narvik as a settlement began in the Bronze Age. Not very much is known about these people, but the Vikings lived in this area.
Narvik was developed as an all-year ice free port for the Swedish Kiruna and Gällivare iron mines. The history of modern Narvik begins in the 1870s, when the Swedish government began to understand the potential of the iron ore mines in Kiruna, Sweden. Obtaining iron ore from Kiruna had one significant problem in that there was no suitable Swedish port. The nearest Swedish port, Luleå, had limitations. It was covered with ice all winter, it is far from Kiruna, and it allows only medium-sized bulk freight vessels. Narvik offered a port which is ice-free thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, and is naturally large, allowing boats of virtually any size to anchor, up to 208 metres (682 ft) long and 27 metres (89 ft) deep. The Swedish company (Gällivarre Aktiebolag) built the Iron Ore Line (Malmbanan) to Riksgränsen on the Norway–Sweden border. The Norwegian Ofotbanen railway line connects Narvik to the Swedish border.
Swedish mining corporation LKAB still ships the majority of its ore from Narvik (a total 25 million tons a year). The corporation is still important in the area, both as an employer and landowner, although its influence is not as prominent now as it has been in previous years.
The port of Narvik proved to be strategically valuable in the early years of World War II and the town became a focal point of the Norwegian Campaign. In 1939, Germany's war industry depended upon iron ore mined in Kiruna and Malmberget in Sweden. During the summer season, this ore could be sent by cargo ship to Germany through the Baltic Sea via the Swedish port of Luleå on the Gulf of Bothnia. However, when the Gulf of Bothnia froze during the winter, more shipments of the ore needed to be transported through Narvik and, from there, down the west coast of Norway to Germany. The town of Narvik is linked by rail to Sweden, but not to any other towns in Norway. As a result, Narvik serves as a gateway to the ore fields of Sweden that cannot be easily reached from southern Norway via land. (Wikipedia)

This is a little different than my usual post of dogs, cats and family. For the past couple of weeks, my team at work has been having a virtual social hour during the time that I usually make dinner. I have received several request for recipes, and I am obliging them with a few. This is the photo I am using for the cover.
I pray that all is well as can be for everyone. Be safe and take care. B

Chesire's only coastal reserve, consisting of sand dunes, reedbeds and marsh
This reserve lies on the edge of the extensive Dee Estuary and unusually is a separate SSSI to the Dee. The reserve consist of an important range of sand dune from embryo dunes against the sea to much more established yellow dunes behind and then to grey dunes that extend on to The Royal Liverpool Golf Course. As with all dune systems specialised plants that can survive in dry sandy conditions grow in the dips (slacks) and on the hilly bits. Such plants as sea holly and Mackays horsetail. In the slacks behind the embryo dunes small brackish pools can be found in which a small population of Natterjack toads cling on. The once extensive sand dune habitat has been reduced around this coastal area so much that this species has become isolated and will probably die out shortly. In the slack behind the yellow dune fresher water collects and enables common reed to flourish. This reedbed is important for migratory birds as well as species such as reed warbler that nest and feed in the reed. Here can be found large populations of common toad that thrive in the shallow water. Their tadpoles will eat any Natterjack tadpoles found in this area.

The Chao Sam Phraya National Museum is a Thai national museum in Ayutthaya . The museum is named after King Borommaracha II (Chao Sam Phraya), who built Wat Ratchaburana in Ayutthaya in 1424 .
The Chao Sam Phraya National Museum is located on Rochana Street in the old town of Ayutthaya, the capital of the Ayutthaya empire for 417 years.
In the course of the extensive repair and reconstruction work carried out in Ayutthaya by the Thai government between 1956 and 1957, many valuable objects were found that were able to survive the almost complete devastation of the city by the Burmese in 1767.
On December 26, 1961, the museum opened its first building, the two-story Chao Sam Phraya Building, in the presence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit.
Well, not what I had envisioned when I set the shot up. Union Pacific No. 1111, the "Powered By Our People" SD70ACe is leading the NS 344 into Meridian, Mississippi. The train had been making its way into town from the New Orleans as I had been making my way into town from Atlanta.

- Berlin, James Simon Gallery, Exposition of Etruscan votive offerings: Bronze effigies of body parts and internal organs for which healing was sought
Was waren ihre Anliegen?

Exceptionally well-preserved bronze statues from a sanctuary in San Casciano, Italy, provide insight into healing rituals and religious practices during the transition from Etruscan to Roman culture. From July to November 2025, they were presented in an exclusive special exhibition at the James Simon Gallery. In the fall of 2022, excavations in San Casciano dei Bagni in Tuscany uncovered a large number of extremely well-preserved bronze statues in a water basin right next to a still-active thermal spring. It quickly became clear that this was a discovery of the century and an archaeological stroke of luck! Ancient bronze figures – especially in such large quantities – are extremely rare. The basin proved to be the center of an Etruscan-Roman sanctuary. Here, the sick sought healing through the thermal waters, and concerned parents sought divine protection for their children. The statues, as well as many smaller objects, were offerings made by visitors to the powers worshipped here. Due to ancient destruction and reconstruction, two distinct phases can be clearly distinguished in the more than 500 years of use. This is the first opportunity to study how a sanctuary functioned during the transition from Etruscan to Roman culture: Who were the deities? How did the local population interact with them? Which segments of the population visited the sanctuary? What were their concerns? Furthermore, it can be shown that many of the concerns are universally human and that the practice of consecration has a long-standing tradition. Even today, similar objects are donated to Catholic and Orthodox churches, albeit on a smaller scale and made of less valuable materials. After three stops in Italy, the bronzes were exhibited in Berlin for the first time outside Italy. Spectacular new finds from the excavation in the fall of 2024 were also on display for the first time, before all of them found their permanent home in the museum in San Casciano.

-Elmas insanoğlunun tanıdığı en sert doğal maddedir. Yeryüzündeki en sert madenden 58 misli daha serttir.
-Bir elması sadece başka bir elmas kesebilir.
-Bir elmasla kömür arasındaki tek fark karbon atomlarının sıkışma oranı farkıdır.
Not:
"İnsanın ruhi terbiyesinin önemi" mevzu bahsinde konuyu elmasın macerasıyla mukayeseli olarak anlatmayı denedim, umduğumdan daha güzel neticeler verdi, tavsiye ederim...
Bu kadar bahsetmişken "kanlı elmas" diye bir film vardı, onu da tavsiye ederim :p
Son olarak, bu resim elmas değildir, pırlanta hiç değildir, halis muhlis avize taşıdır :))
Pomegranate is very valuable fruit from the skin to the seeds,
the seeds are excellent sources of dietary fiber, those people who discard them they lose all the benefits from the fruit.

Bruges is most beautiful city in Belgium,. Unesco World Heritage city. The fascination of Brugge is found in its historical, glorious building. The Church of Our Lady dates back to the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its tower, at 122.3 metres. The city's major attractions are compressed into an area which conveniently walkable. Two major attractions are Markt where three architectures are; Belfort tower, Provincial government palace and Guildhouse. Another place is Burg square which is sorrounded by three buildings; Basilica of the Holy Blood, Town Hall, and Old Recorder's House. Bruges is the go-to city for historical film locations. There’s not a great deal to do, but that’s the beauty of it. There’s no rushing around to see the hundreds of sights on offer, which can happen on a lot of other city breaks. Here you can relax, walk around and take in the sights of this fairy-tale town. Bruges is easy to get around by foot. There are few cars in transit and most locals choose to get around by bicycle. Taking a boat around the canals is a must-do in Bruges. The capital of West Flanders is lovely and underrated, and the well-preserved city centre of brick Gothic architecture was once the stomping ground of Flemish old master painters.
Bruges is a small city with big beauty. Bruges imitates what life would be like in the late middle ages. The 122 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges’ artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo’s world-famous Madonna and Child and countless paintings of the 13th-century.

St. James' is the second of Stendal's three large churches. It dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. Its steeple was erected from 1893 to 1901 and stands in place of the original steeple, which collapsed in 1808. St. James' is a three-nave hall church with an elevated choir in the width of the central nave. Essential parts of the medieval furnishings have been preserved. The choir has 6 windows with stained glass from the 14th and 15th centuries. Stendal already had stained glass workshops in the 14th century. The valuable furnishings in this church also show the importance and wealth of the old Hanseatic town. The carved rood screen belongs to the 1st quarter of the 16th century. The model from St. Mary's Church is unmistakable. The sandstone pulpit from 1612 by Hans Hacke from Werben in the Altmark regionis an art work of particular relevance. The life-size supporting statue depicts James the Great as the patron saint of pilgrims with the pilgrim's sign on his hat, the shell.
