The final shot in this batch of additions to my ongoing "Found" series.

The saying "cleaning is girls work" springs to mind, but that is nonsense.

With apologies to Lee Freidlander.

The Hoover Model 29, the first Hoover cleaner made in red

The sombre and restrained colors of the previous decades gave way to bright, striking modern color-schemes, starting with the Hoover Model 29 in 1950, which was red instead of the regular black and brown colors of the past. This was part of their policy of the continual development and modernization of their output.

The Hoover Company - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"It's great service. I've had my Handy Andy for 14 years and every time I bring it in, they overhaul it and it's like a brand new vacuum. It still does quality work, just like day one, especially on my hair from my cat." "It goes all over - I have a two floor house, it does great upstairs, downstairs and all my floors." (Picks up cat hair? ) "It does, in two seconds! I don't have to go back and forth and it's a long haired cat and it sucks it right up." "(The vacuum hose), it goes all the way up to the top (of the stairs), I don't have to carry the vacuum at all." Michelle Barroso of Rochester MA doing a review about her Handy Andy's Quality Vac™ Vacuum Cleaner from Handy Andy's Quality Vacuum Cleaners, Sales, Service, Repairs, Parts, 1693 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford MA 02746 (508) 997-8011

When they become self-aware and the inevitable robot uprising starts, I hope they'll remember who it was who armed them.

Hackerspace Hack42 recently acquired two domestic robots, affectionately named (well, sort of) "Kreng" and "Loeder".

Idea blatantly copied from this webcomic by "Least I Could Do".

"I can't complain. When I came in to the store to get a vacuum, I was actually looking for a backpack one because I own a colonial home to reach up to the high ceilings, so that was my goal intended was, to get a backpack vacuum until they presented this vacuum to me." "When I looked at it, for the price, but with all the adapters, with all that it comes, I'm able to vacuum my house thoroughly, ceilings, high ceilings, with adapters, with the hoses and everything, 16 feet and it works awesome." "The power that this vacuum gives, I don't think I've ever used any vacuum that has the power that this vacuum throws out, so it's awesome, I love it." "I can clean the carpets, I can even take it out to my car, the suction on this vacuum can clean your car like as if you were to go to a car wash, so it's awesome." "I love it and I don't think I would ever change anything for another vacuum than this, so you get your monies worth and you get your product's worth." "I do all the stairs throughout the house, the area rugs throughout the house, basement, since I have a finished basement. I have no pets, but I do have a daughter now." "I do throughout the whole house and the power on this thing is amazing, it's amazing! This vacuum, I'm glad I invested my money into something very, very good that works very well." "I brought it in for a tune-up last weekend and I got it today and I can't wait, I can't wait. Actually we brought it in Friday, Saturday is was actually already set to go, they actually called my wife, they called my wife and the vacuum was already set." "Now I got to go vacuum my house again after the Memorial Day Weekend. I can't wait to use it, now that I have a new brush, so I can't wait to see that in action now again."

Display at Godfreys Belmont Forum Shopping Centre in Perth with a pair of old Electrolux vacuum cleaners - a D725 model from 1980 and a D735 model from 1990 - both still claimed to be working. Godfreys were in the process of moving to another location in the centre with Belmont Forum undergoing an internal refurbishment gaining new anchor stores including JB HiFi and an Aldi supermarket.

This is 'Henry' the Hoover' - but of course, he's not strictly a Hoover but a plain old 'vacuum cleaner', the names having become synonomous over the years since the original Hoover arrived in the early 20thC.

You see these chappies all over the place now - particularly popular with builders and office cleaners as they seem to cope with robust conditions! (Like my son's bedroom, come to think of it....)

A new bathroom in our house was being done. I'm pretty sure this is a vacuum cleaner, forgive me if I'm wrong.

AHHHH!

Getekend op mijn iPad met Brushes Redux / drawn on an iPad with Brushes Redux

A typical vacuum cleaner from this period. It was available during the 70's in this light beige with navy blue, in the ending of that decade it was available also in two color schemes, beige with dark green or in two tones of grey.

In the right, the compact Arno Junior standard and Super, with more accessories. They were available in two tones of light grey and in light grey / red along the 70's, later a beige, military green and coffee brown were added to the range.

Range of products made by Arno about 1973 - 74.

Eis dois modelos de aspiradores que a Arno fez durante muito tempo sem grandes alterações, mudando apenas as cores conforme a época.

Mr Dyson makes his cleaners very hard to repair.

Our Dyson V11 (handily just out of warranty) has had a dodgy trigger for some time. A quick search reveals that its a design weakness. An improved non-original trigger was duly ordered and then the lengthy and complicated task of fitting it started with the help of various online videos. As you dis-assemble the machine large amounts of dust falls out. Yuk!

It's now back in action.

Seen in an antiques centre, my mother has an identical model Hoover Junior to this one, same colour too.

The Dyson Air Multiplier - a fan that creates airflow without blades. Dyson has said it is simply due to the problems caused by regular fans, such as the difficulty in cleaning them and their ability to catch fingers, but you can't help but feel it's a solution to a non-existent problem, especially when he defends it by saying it gives you "smoother air."

While cleaning your old house, decorating your new house and in between all the moving between the 2 houses, there are a lot of faces to see...

Abstract faces that is.

"I love the vacuum cleaner. I use it for my salon. It's great on picking up hair and as anybody knows, hair is the hardest thing, brooms don't pick it up and other tools do not pick it up, but the Handy Andy Vac picks up all the hair, all the dust, keeps my air clean in the salon." "I also use it at my home, I have a Pomeranian and she's beautiful, but she sheds a lot and the Handy Andy, it helps with all that, picking up of the hair and the dust." "The service is excellent, just the maintenance that I get has saved me quite a bit of money and keeps it at it's peak performance." Floor polishers. This was an important appliance since 40's to 80's decades. At this period, although Walita and Electrolux have been in a run to show who is the leader on this market with tens of models each, Arno had made just two very good floor polishers that sold very well. The Space-Invaders-alien head model (rounded) was the most famous, in special the chromed model.

A Arno vendeu essas enceradeiras tanto quanto a Volkswagen vendeu Fusca...

Brand new !

Finally, it is a Miele ; not an Electrolux, they were too heavy.

The hose of my little vacuum cleaner split but this repair with Duck* tape seems to have done the job.

*In the UK "Duck" is a brand of duct tape. The name is used generically, like "Hoover" and "Biro".

"My wife and I love the vac and we also love the service, real quick!." "It cleans my carpets and floors very well and this is my second one that we've had so far." "My wife reaches on the side of the woodwork, up to the ceiling, down the side of the walls. Yea, we can reach anywhere we want." Robert Mendes of New Bedford MA doing a review about his Handy Andy's Quality Vac™ Vacuum Cleaner from Handy Andy's Quality Vacuum Cleaners, Sales, Service, Repairs, Parts, 1693 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford MA 02746 (508) 997-8011

"Absolutely love it! We've had it two years, very convenient, very lightweight." "We have a two level raised ranch. Andy gave us the long extension hose, where we can go upstairs and downstairs without literally having to move our vacuum." "Sometimes I have to take it down to my back room. If it's upstairs, it's got a little handle, just simply grab it, it's lightweight, right down the stairs, very portable." "The service is outstanding! We brought in for our cleaning two years in a row, new tips, new brushes, new belts, complete overhaul. He even replaced the cord for us, and the cord is so long, it's phenomenal!" "The wife is happy and you know what they say, happy wife, happy life." "We do have a dog. We have a Yorkshire Terrier, small dog, lot of fur. You know, he sheds here and there. We simply go by once, everything is picked up." "We go from carpet to floor, back to the carpet with no problems, once over, everything is done." "Best vacuum we've ever bought in our lives and we've gone through several. I'm 55 years old, so you can imagine how many vacuums I've gone through. This one, we are set for life from now on."

The Hoover Company was founded in Ohio, US in 1908 and opened up a large manufacturing facility in Britain during the 1930’s. In 1919, Hoover coined the slogan ‘It Beats, As It Sweeps, As It Cleans’ (IBAISAIC) that has helped promote sales of its upright vacuum cleaners which continued in production until the early 1980's. This slogan is probably the best remembered of all those used by Hoover throughout its long history.

Unlike standard vacuum cleaners, the Hoover uprights actually vibrated the carpet with a rapidly beating brush that loosened grit which in turn was sucked up by its vacuum action.

These long service badges are made of hallmarked silver and shows the Hoover IBAISAIC trademark.

Although Vactric are noted as being of 'Regent St' in London, their works were in fact in north London in Cricklewood. They were one of a number of UK vac makers - although this advert takes a less than usual form in that it makes play on the unlikely event, at that time, of a man doing housework.
