Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus formerly known as Victoria Terminus , is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India which serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways. The station was designed by Frederick William Stevens according to the concept of Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture and meant to be a similar revival of Indian architecture. The station was built in 1887 in the Bori Bunder area of Mumbai to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It is one of the busiest railway stations in India serving as a terminal for both long-distance trains and commuter trains. The station's name was changed from Victoria Terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in March 1996 in honour of Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire.
"You know, at some point the Earth is going so smack us hard, harder than ever before, for all the crap we keep dumping across the globe". That was the summary of the speculative public concern that followed multiple outbreaks of violent gusts and even tornadoes in a variety of places across the globe in 2217.
However, at the Velocitech facility, a team of engineers was further than ever from doing anything significant to help the environment. Instead, the team was tasked with harnessing the adverse consequences. AirStream had a rather short run (about 500 made) and was, as its name suggested, akin to a rolling tunnel for incoming wind.
Air was allowed to flow in an unrestricted, yet controlled manner around almost every part of this car, even within the non-sealed parts of the engine block. Air that entered through the front and the rear was directed to eventually shoot out of the four massive pipes on the sides. While driving AirStream in 2217's occasional extreme conditions was not advisable, in more timid weather it could cope with head- and side-winds significantly better than any other road-going vehicle. So in a way, VT did address the "increased fuel consumption in adverse weather" problem, and marketed it as such - although at any given case, one must look at the total impact of a unit produced, and the economies of AirStream were debatable - to say the least.
Was there a market for such a car, given the hefty price tag and massive investment in R&D? It was hard to tell. But the 500 models sold out in a very steady manner - the company predicted diminishing marginal returns should more capacity had been allocated for this model's production.
The year was 2222 and the effects of the global warming across the world were more than apparent. Little did the majority realise, however, that Europe would actually become much, much colder as a consequence.
The inception of Velocitech Vulcan FrostNova was enabled by the cooling of the region. Europe has become one of the coldest places on Earth while maintaining decent infrastructure, including roads. In 2222 Velocitech saw an opportunity to finally bring to life and test out their prototype which has been in the works since 2216 - the FrostNova.
Not much is known about this one-off prototype, but it is rumoured to utilise principles of superconductivity for propulsion, which is enabled by cooling some 60% of the car to near absolute zero temperatures. The main body is made eye-scorchingly white in order to reflect as much heat coming in from the outside as possible. Harsh weather conditions also required the engineers to develop special tyres, as rubber of any existing grade was starting to show severe signs of wear after any given test-drive.
No further plans regarding the faith of this prototype have been announced as of yet, and Velocitech themselves seem to be reluctant to share any additional information - probably due to the early stage of development in which the superconductor technology in vehicles is at the present time.
