Op 16 januari 2010 werden de voor sloop bestemde treinstellen 511 en 801 van Nederlandse Spoorwegen van Weert naar Zwolle Rangeer gebracht. Het transport werd getrokken door Volker Rail-diesellocomotief 203-2 (ex-DB 202 691) en het gesplitste treinstel 921 deed dienst als koppelwagens. Voor de beremming zorgde de achterop meegevoerde Kirow-kraan. Foto bij Tricht.

Der Besuch beim Gletscher im Sommer 2020 hat bei mir einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen. Der Blaueisgletscher ist der nördlichste Gletscher der Alpen und ist aufgrund des Klimawandels bedroht, da die Fläche rapide zurückgeht. In der Vergangenheit war die Fläche auf dem Foto mit Eis bedeckt. Dort oben wird der Klimawandel sehr deutlich. Das ließ mich dort oben nachdenklich werden. Wenn man in der Gegend ist, sollten die Gelegenheit nutzen und den Gletscher ansehen. Wer weiß, wie lange die Möglichkeit noch hat.

The visit to the glacier in summer 2020 left a lasting impression on me. The Blaueisgletscher is the northernmost glacier in the Alps and is threatened due to climate change as the area is rapidly shrinking. In the past, the area in the photo was covered with ice. Up there, climate change is very clear. That got me thinking up there. If you are in the area, take the opportunity to see the glacier. Who knows how long the opportunity will last.

The story of this photo:

This is my latest macro shot. Over the last few weeks, I have been spending my time doing a lot of stuff that did not have too much to do with taking or editing photos. It did have to do with photography, but just not with the creative part of it. Anyway, yesterday, I got fed up with this stuff and I started messing around with my macro gear. The sun just went down and I found this tiny foilage with those delicate little hairs. I figured that this would look great against the sun. So, I got out my little syringe, applied a few droplets and took a whole bunch of shots with the sun in different spots relative to the foilage.

Initailly, I went with an aperture of f/20 to f/25 to get all of the leaves in focus. But that brought parts of the background too much into focus too. So, I went with f/8 which blurred the background entirely, and I took different shots with different foci. Then I used focus stacking in Photoshop to blend those images together. Et Voilà, subject in focus, background blurred.

And here is the lesson for you: Always know what you can do to an image in post-processing while you are shooting. This may help you solve problems and lets you create images that may be very difficult to create otherwise.

Een aantal van de, als ik het me goed herinner, dertien ballasttreinen die ingezet werden bij de werkzaamheden van Strukton Rail in Heeze in februari/maart 2023 werd gereden door VolkerRail. Een 'concurrent' die ballasttreinen rijdt voor een ander bedrijf; in de Infrapool kan het.

Door deze samenwerking kon de fraaie combinatie van een VolkerRail loc met de hoge ballastwagens t.b.v. de nieuwe bovenlaag meermaals vastgelegd worden. Tot aan de spanningsloosstelling werd gereden met elektrische tractie. Daarna nam de dieselloc het over.

Op bovenstaande foto zijn we al diep in de buitendienststelling en is er net begonnen met het lossen van de trein; zie de vijfde Fccpps. Dieselloc 203-1 "Tom" trekt de trein tergend traag de overweg over. Het wegverkeer zou nog een hele tijd staan te wachten..!

Achterop lift de VR 7178 mee.

The full moon was actually at 4:37 pm on September 18, 2013 here in California, but I decided to photograph it both on September 18 and 19 to see when the conditions would be the best. On the first evening the reflecting sunset light was fantastic but there was way too much light for a proper balance between the ambient light and the brightness of the moon. I am hoping that the September 19 conditions will be better inasmuch as the moon is raising 38 minutes later than on 18th.
