Noticed this VC this arvo - doesn't look too bad, but needs a fair whack of TLC to get back into shape...

 

Body's not too bad, but the interior's gutted...

Ace of Aces, Billy Bishop, VC.

 

Lieutenant-Colonel W.A. ‘Billy’ Bishop, from Owen Sound, Ontario, was one of the British Empire’s premier fighter aces, with 72 credited kills.

 

Driven to succeed, and a skilled marksman, Bishop quickly scored dozens of combat victories. On 2nd June 1917, he destroyed a number of German aircraft while flying a solo mission, for which he received the Victoria Cross. At the time and since, critics have questioned the truth of Bishop’s unwitnessed feat. However, there is no question about Bishop’s skill, bravery and devotion to duty.

 

The Canadian War Museum is Canada's national museum of military history. Located in Ottawa, Ontario, the museum covers all facets of Canada's military past, from the first recorded instances of death by armed violence in Canadian history several hundred years ago to the country's most recent involvement in conflicts.

 

It includes major permanent exhibitions on wars that have been fought on Canadian soil, the total wars of the twentieth century, the Cold War and peace support operations abroad, and Canada's history of honouring and remembrance.

 

There is also an open storage area displaying large objects from the Museum's collection, from naval guns to tanks, from motorcycles to jet aircraft. The exhibits depict Canada's military past in its personal, national and international dimensions, with special emphasis on the human experience of war and the manner in which war has affected, and been affected by, Canadians' participation.

Dora Junction is the starting point for the NRT, and is the location of the former Y where it connected to the N&W Bristol Line main track.

 

There are three parking areas, and a small information stand where one can rest after a long ride.

In this small graveyard is buried James Munro who was awarded a Victoria Cross for his part in the battle of Lucknow, in India.

 

He died a pauper in 1871 and is buried without a gravestone.

here is a prototype of my CV scalar module. The slide pots represent the values of 0%, 12%, 25%, 37%, and so on, up to 100% - this is why there are 9 pots. The input CV is linearly scaled over this range and any values inbetween pots are proportionally scaled to a value inbetween the 2 slider positions. so this is not an analog step sequencer, but rather a transition sequencer with 8 transitional steps. It can be a CV Scalar, arbitrary LFO, arbitrary envelope, or has an attenuator mode to act like a VCA. The knobs offset and scale both the input and the output. The LED's fade between the pots proportional to the CV position.

The Lockheed JetStar (company designations L-329 and L-1329; designated C-140 in USAF service) is a business jet produced from the early 1960s through the 1970s. The JetStar was the first dedicated business jet to enter service. It was also one of the largest aircraft in the class for many years, seating ten plus two crew. It is distinguishable from other small jets by its four engines, mounted on the rear of the fuselage in a similar layout to the larger Vickers VC10 airliner that first flew several years later, and the "slipper"-style fuel tanks fixed to the wings.

The first presidential jet plane, a specially built Boeing 707-120, is known as SAM (Special Air Missions) 970. This aircraft, as well as any other Air Force aircraft, carried the call sign "Air Force One" when the president was aboard. Delivered in 1959 to replace Eisenhower's Super-Constellation, the high-speed jet transport is a flying Oval Office with a modified interior and sophisticated communication equipment.

Jet technology gave a president the opportunity to meet face-to-face with world leaders easily. SAM 970 has carried presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon as well as VIPs such as Nikita Khrushchev and Henry Kissinger.

By 1962, SAM 970 was replaced by a newer Boeing VC-137C. But SAM 970 remained in the presidential fleet ferrying VIPs and the Vice-President until June of 1996.
