Let me preface this shot by saying that I took it through a window, hence the odd reflections and schmutz. I'm SO ready for the cold weather to be over so that I can get back to shooting outside!
I really needed to see some blue skies in my photostream, so here's a shot of the type of electricity pole you can find around downtown Montreal. Yes, it really is leaning like that, I'd say it's about a 30 degree angle to the pavement.
I thought the poles were to hold up the lines, not the other way around!
been doing some DIY. took some pictures of the 'in-progress' for documentary purposes, or in case I screwed something up.
anyway: sometimes even mundane things look cool, if you take the picture right (or wrong, depending on your POV)
Part of my job required field visits. Here's the result of a work order I created to replace a pole and transformer. New guidelines require avian and animal protection to be installed so all hot primary conductors are covered as much as possible to prevent electrocution of birds or animals. I had to install a taller pole to correct a conductor clearance violation and the transformer was replaced because a "protected bird" was electrocuted when it got between the neutral bushing and the primary jumper. the door hangtag said the CoH would be in the neighbourhood performing water line maintenance and there would be no disruption of water services ... they did forget to mention the part about the sound of the machinery - something akin to a cross between a jet engine and a train's diesel-electric motor revved on high ... nap anyone?

There is little soil in Ilulissat, where there is soil it's generally poor, and often permafrost. One of the prominent consequences of this is that utilities such as water and electric are strewn along the ground in a ubiquitous kind of iron casing which seems to be used throughout the arctic. Ilulissat bay after some snow.
When I was young I was interested in utility poles (I still like 'em!), so my Grandfather made this pair of toy sized poles for me to play with. Here I had them set up with our Fisher Price buildings.
A truck hit this utility pole and broke the bottom of it off, leaving the top part in place suspended by the wires.
This occurred near 13th Avenue and Umatilla in Denver, Colorado.
The Holden ute [utility truck] decorated with Magpie legend, , artist Catherine Larking,
How the magpies created the dawn:
There was a time when there was no sun,
moon or stars. The sky was clamped firmly to the earth.
The magpies agreed that together they could raise the sky above the earth. Each bird took a stick firmly in its beak or claw. They pressed their sticks upwards. The dark shadows rolled again.
The magpies have never forgotten that moment of ecstasy
when the sun first shone through the riven sky.
Now each day that it rises it is greeted by the chorus of the magpie song. As it was on the day of the first uprising.
It takes a little imagination, but can't you picture this as a teardrop camper?? I already have a SnowBear utility trailer with a 2,000 lb capacity so that should be a perfect platform.
