Currently being used as a storage building for Strathspey Steam Railway Volunteers.

Broomhill railway station or Broomhill for Nethy Bridge railway station is a reconstructed railway station on the former Highland Railway main line which was originally built to serve the small villages of Nethy Bridge and Dulnain Bridge in Strathspey. It is at present the eastern terminus of the Strathspey Steam Railway.

The railway station was opened by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway (I&PJR) on its line to Forres in 1863, via Grantown-on-Spey (West), Dava, etc.

In 1923 the HR became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and at nationalisation in 1948 became part of British Railways. The line was recommended for closure by Dr Beeching's report "The Reshaping of British Railways" and closed on 18 October 1965.

Following closure in 1965 the station was demolished leaving only the platform and the nearby stationmaster's house. On 31 May 2002 the Strathspey Railway (preserved) re-opened the old station following its reconstruction.

The Great North of Scotland Railway's (GNoSR) Broomhill Junction lay on the line towards Boat of Garten and at this point the original GNoSR Strathspey Railway diverged, crossing the River Spey to reach Nethy Bridge, Grantown-on-Spey, Aberlour, Cromdale, Craigellachie, etc. The Highland Railway (HR) line ran parallel from Boat of Garten station to avoid the cost of a signal box and famously the two lines had different coloured ballast.

Only a few more days until Christmas, and my break started yesterday?! I dread going back to classes, and I have four weeks off.

I could SCREAM.

As many of you may know, I live in Maryland. We are known for our Chesapeake Blue Crab Cakes. I was born and raised to catch these, and go home to clean them up to make crab cakes the next day.

It is amazing how much of a drastic change my photographing ability has become over a year, and I am excited to see what the future holds in my photography career.

OK, this is a departure for me. I do occasional HDR photos and I enjoy them. But I rarely go for anything that is overprocessed. This photo started taking on a feeling more of a painting than a photo at some point, so I just went with it. In the end, I love it! I really like this photo. Even though its not my typical HDR style, I think it is beautiful.

Did not expect to see this today!

UP 2385, an EMD SD60M "Triclops," leads northbound UP AASCN out of Villa Grove as a light rain falls. This lead unit was very faded and I'm sure the crew loved having it as their leader.

The palace was built using the stones of the former Coronation Cathedral of the Virgin Mary Provost Church. The building lasted more than twenty years which explains why Louis Seize style ornaments appeared on the mainly baroque building.

The architect of the palace was Jakab Riedel and it had become one of the most significant Louis Seize style building in Hungary. On the facade the bishop's coat-of arms can be seen. Its furniture is Empire and Biedermeier style. The library contains 40000 volumes- codices, incunables. The palace garden reaches the castlewall hiding the unexplored parts of the Coronation Basilica.

Abandoned building of a busy railway junction.

It used to be that we would be boating in BC or AK during the weeks after Christmas and New Years. Winter boating in the Pacific NW isn't for everyone, but it was pretty much our favorite time. We sold our boat a few years ago, and we miss it a lot, especially this time of year. (the image is just under 3" from top to bottom.)

Used for grinding corn and other grains. It's rare to find the mano with the metate together. I found these in an out of the way place near a river and left the mano just like I found it.

I caught the wrong train.

Mickey Newbury, "The Future's Not What It Used to Be"

I used to play this game with my Granny many years ago. I found an identical version in a charity shop... same box depicting Chinese lanterns etc and the brightly coloured plastic pieces in side. Starting from triangle bases, arranged around a star, each player has to get their 10 pieces to the opposite side. In straight lines you can hop over the opponents pieces... get it well timed and it can look impressive. I would like a heavy wooden version of this game, but, like the one my granny had, this is cardboard.

Lit from beneath by placing the board minus its surround, on a clear acrylic box and directing flash underneath it. There is about two inches of the board here. HMM

Spider used to be in the list of the last few that I favor to shoot. Not so sure I can hold my camera still when I was taking this, most of the time I find them disgusting...but after some colour correction and cropping, I just couldn't resist the 'laser-eye" and post it here.

What do you see? For me it was a combination of a Barn Owl face, an Ewok and a singing dog. I wonder what my Psychiatrist would say about that? lol

I no longer use my light meter now that I've swapped to digital and shoot with strobes most of the time. It still hangs on my tripod though, and I've forgotten how to use it. But sometimes, if I need to think while shooting someone, I'll hold out the light meter and act as though I'm metering light. I twist a few dials and mutter to myself as I think. It looks very professional and impressive.

I'm mobile again, meet Rocinante, my new workhorse. I don't have Fridays off anymore so I'm going to have to find a new way to get in hikes and still not miss time with Darling Tonia, but somehow, some way my camera and I should be getting more time together soon. If you see this baby comin', get off the sidewalk!

I used this spoon in a photo recently and said it had a story behind it.

I bought it from a local Fair trade shop. It was made in Laos from aluminium salvaged from deactivated unexploded bombs dropped on their province during the secret war which took place between 1964 and 1973.

A percentage of the money from the sale of these spoons goes to a charity to help young disadvantaged Laotians further their education.

On a lighter note, I'll let you into a little secret. The patterned fabric is a pair of oversized knickers Gloria bought for a photo...what is she like? ;)
