Tulips and more tulips, unfortunately most of them are already cupped because of the crisis, but fortunately we still have the pictures......

Until 1948 American scientists at East Base on Stonington Island, Antarctica, used a Curtiss-Wright condor biplane fitted with skis for aerial photography and supply purposes to land on nearby Northeast Glacier.

Up until last year my olive tree showed no signs of producing flowers and ultimately olives. Last year, very small and quite insignificant blossom appeared, but the bees seemed to give them the cold shoulder and I didn’t see any action in the pollination dept occurring!

This year though birds, insects and the occasional bee seemed to be expressing an interest in the olive blossom. Later, very small ‘blobs’ grew and I thought that would be it but no………some time later I noticed a few of these ‘blobs’ growing into real olives! I am astounded as I never expected it. I have taken a shot of the leaves, small olive buds and more fully formed olives. I am not going to go into business producing olive oil with the handful of olives produced!

All this shows that the climate is changing remarkably if I can grow olives as far north as the English Midlands!

Taken about a month ago.

Found my dad's old Nikon waterproof digicam from the early or mid 2000s a few months ago.

I had a lot of fun with this, until a few shots after this one and somehow water got in and it died.

It had a good life.

until I can get out and take some photos.

It feels like this camera cant get out of it's own way when it comes to low light and noise, I would expect the noise I'm seeing at ISO 1600 not 400.. I miss my Cannon at this point.. I'm really not sure if it can or can not do better than this, But when I was looking into this one I thought for sure the images I found were less grainy? I don't get it other than maybe it's time to spend some money on an actual camera and some real glass.

Someone put a new roof on this former abandoned house in the woods in 2019. Nothing else happened until early this winter when I noticed the the house was jacked up. More pictures later.

Down the lane that does bend

Twist and turn , until it's end

Past the tree , changing to brown

Then sending leaves , flowing down

Upon the lane, as it does descend

Downward to it's very end

Past Autumn browns, Winter white

Until it reaches Summers light

That mother nature, she does send

Down the lane, beyond the bend

this is an old picture that i did about 2 or 3 months ago. i really like it though so i thought i would upload it, but i like to think my editing had improved a bit since then, there's definitely a huge difference in my shading technique XD

i'm really angry/annoyed because my laptop that i do editing on has completely stopped working and it's also the one that has allllllllllll my pictures on and alllllll my sims (and i never uploaded my sims anywhere or gave them to anyone so they're all on that laptop :() so right now i'm hoping my dad can stop being lazy and fix my laptop hopefully tomorrow or the next day but until it's fixed (if it can even be fixed :/) then i can't work on any of my contest pics or anything :(

Hagia Sophia is a mosque and former church serving as a major cultural and historical site in Istanbul, Turkey. The last of three church buildings to be successively erected on the site by the Eastern Roman Empire, it was completed in 537 CE. The site was a Greek Orthodox church from 360 CE to 1453, except for a brief time as a Latin Catholic church between the Fourth Crusade and 1261. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, it served as a mosque until 1935, when it became a museum. In 2020, the site once again became a mosque.

The current structure was built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I as the Christian cathedral of Constantinople for the Byzantine Empire between 532 and 537, and was designed by the Greek geometers Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. It was formally called the Church of God's Holy Wisdom and upon completion became the world's largest interior space and among the first to employ a fully pendentive dome. It is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture[8] and is said to have "changed the history of architecture". The present Justinianic building was the third church of the same name to occupy the site, as the prior one had been destroyed in the Nika riots. As the episcopal see of the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople, it remained the world's largest cathedral for nearly a thousand years, until the Seville Cathedral was completed in 1520. Beginning with subsequent Byzantine architecture, Hagia Sophia became the paradigmatic Orthodox church form, and its architectural style was emulated by Ottoman mosques a thousand years later. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as an architectural and cultural icon of Byzantine and Eastern Orthodox civilization.

The religious and spiritual centre of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly one thousand years, the church was dedicated to the Holy Wisdom. It was where the excommunication of Patriarch Michael I Cerularius was officially delivered by Humbert of Silva Candida, the envoy of Pope Leo IX in 1054, an act considered the start of the East–West Schism. In 1204, it was converted during the Fourth Crusade into a Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire, before being returned to the Eastern Orthodox Church upon the restoration of the Byzantine Empire in 1261. Enrico Dandolo, the doge of Venice who led the Fourth Crusade and the 1204 Sack of Constantinople, was buried in the church.

After the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire in 1453, it was converted to a mosque by Mehmed the Conqueror and became the principal mosque of Istanbul until the 1616 construction of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. Upon its conversion, the bells, altar, iconostasis, ambo, and baptistery were removed, while iconography, such as the mosaic depictions of Jesus, Mary, Christian saints and angels were removed or plastered over. Islamic architectural additions included four minarets, a minbar and a mihrab. The Byzantine architecture of the Hagia Sophia served as inspiration for many other religious buildings including the Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki, Panagia Ekatontapiliani, the Şehzade Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque, the Rüstem Pasha Mosque and the Kılıç Ali Pasha Complex. The patriarchate moved to the Church of the Holy Apostles, which became the city's cathedral.

The complex remained a mosque until 1931, when it was closed to the public for four years. It was re-opened in 1935 as a museum under the secular Republic of Turkey, and the building was Turkey's most visited tourist attraction as of 2019.

In July 2020, the Council of State annulled the 1934 decision to establish the museum, and the Hagia Sophia was reclassified as a mosque. The 1934 decree was ruled to be unlawful under both Ottoman and Turkish law as Hagia Sophia's waqf, endowed by Sultan Mehmed, had designated the site a mosque; proponents of the decision argued the Hagia Sophia was the personal property of the sultan. The decision to designate Hagia Sophia as a mosque was highly controversial. It resulted in divided opinions and drew condemnation from the Turkish opposition, UNESCO, the World Council of Churches and the International Association of Byzantine Studies, as well as numerous international leaders, while several Muslim leaders in Turkey and other countries welcomed its conversion into a mosque.

Well, yes, I was being watched by this Barred Owl as I tried to get a photo of a thrush in this thicket. I didn't even know it was there until I gave up and turned around to leave. It was just an irregularity in the thickness of the tree trunk that caught my attention.

Hawker Hurricane

The Hawker Hurricane was a British fighter aircraft used during World War II. It played a vital role in the Battle of Britain, alongside the Spitfire, defending British airspace. The Hurricane was armed with eight machine guns, had a top speed of around 340 mph, and was known for its maneuverability. While later replaced by more advanced planes, it continued to serve in various roles until the end of the war.

I'm a FOREVER dog, not an UNTIL dog.

I am not an "until you have a baby" dog.

I am not an "until you move" dog.

I am not an "until you have no time" dog.

I am not an "until I get old" dog.

I am not an "until I make a mess" dog.

If you can't give me FOREVER, I'm not your dog.

It's really that simple.

The Heliconius Laparus doris butterfly is one of the strongest butterflies in the Amazon region. They can live up to 9 months while neotropical butterflies normally live a couple weeks! This is an extremely long time. They can do this because they are able to digest pollen externally while it's on the proboscis increasing their protein intake.

The Doris is quite colorful and a number of different color morphs... such as green, red and blue. It has an iridescent fan-like color patch on the lower wing, four jagged symmetrical white patterns on the upper wing as well as white dots on the body and wing edges.

There is quite a difference in winter versus the warm months in observing the eating habits of pheasants. In the summer time unless you are out very early in the mornings or happen to catch them searching for bits of gravel to serve as grit to help their digestion, pheasants often are more hidden as they seek things to eat. They normally have a menu with more entries on it than they do during the winter.

The phrase “scratching out a living” goes all the way back to the 14th-15th centuries when in the older farming communities the farmers “scratched” the land using more primitive tools.

By the 18th-19th centuries, the use of the phrase gained uses beyond that of farming to include anyone who was barely making ends meet in their day to day struggle.

Jump ahead until today and the phrase applies to a broad spectrum of normally physically hard, low paying jobs or an unstable work life.

I grew up in an era when there were only a few government help agencies and can well remember my folks talking about people around them during the Depression and beyond who spent many years on community “poor farms”.

Poor farms were quite prevalent at one time in the US and folks who were unable to work due to age, disability or other factors were housed and fed in exchange for helping to produce food and maintain a farm. Local governments ran the farms as they were considered a cost-effective way to care for the needy rather than simply doling out monies to individuals.

It carried negative connotations for participants, particularly because they were labeled “inmates.”

Poor farms gradually petered out by the middle of last century with many in Minnesota closing in the 1930s due to government programs starting up such as Social Security in 1935 and the growing prevalence of nursing homes.

Tunnel becomes Banksy art exhibit

A disused road tunnel in south London has been turned into a giant exhibition space by graffiti artist Banksy.

Murals in the Bristol artist's famous stencil style appear with work by 29 other artists in a half-mile stretch of the tunnel in Leake Street, Waterloo.

Images of Madonna kissing Britney Spears and a hoodie appear alongside installations of crashed cars.

People can add their own stencil work to the tunnel walls in a three-day exhibition, opening on Saturday.

Reclusive artist Banksy kept the tunnel's location secret until Friday morning.

'Filth pit'

He said the exhibition, known as the Cans Festival, aimed to "transform a dark forgotten filth pit" into "an oasis of beautiful art".

"I've always felt anyone with a paint can should have as much say in how our cities look as architects and ad men," Banksy said.

The installations will be removed after the event but Banksy said he hoped the murals and graffiti would become permanent part of the tunnel.

They also include images of a girl holding flowers, London Bridge, the Queen and Boris Johnson.

An installation depicts a burnt-out car crashed into a tree while another stencil spells out: "Hey Banksy - why don't you return my emails?"

In recent years his work has grown in popularity, with Brad Pitt and Christina Aguilera listed among celebrity collectors.

In January a piece of his graffiti in Portobello Road, west London - which shows a painter finishing off the word "Banksy" - attracted a bid of £208,100 in an online auction.

stopped at Walmart to restock of food and other necessities. on the way out I saw a small tree and loved the lingering leaves and their color. and oddly I began to think of friends and love, now gone... and hope perhaps someday we'll meet again. funny how thoughts creep in at very unexpected times. oh well, back to driving and more time to ponder.

This far north and this far west in the Central Time Zone, sunset isn't until about 2140 so shooting hours extend well into the evening especially on a humidity-free afternoon such as this. Just before 2100 the train passes Arnold where a siding about a mile long can accommodate overflow cars for Bismarck.

I get to pick up Bethany from school today and keep her until Sunday.

Parting gift to my dear quokka friend. They cannot reach eucalyptus leaves as the lower branches of tree are above their heads, so I picked a leaf and offered it to this grateful little quokka. How gentle are they? Well the first panel had the quokka grab the leaf in the middle, he sensed his teeth were too close to my fingers, so he opened his mouth again (panel 2) to show his teeth position and moved his head back until he felt the end of the leaf . He closed his mouth (panel 3) once he felt he was far enough away then in 4th panel indicated he was ready for me to let go of the leaf.. Last panel a very contented quokka with the famous quokka smile.

Hermanos Abrazados.

💙💙💙

💙💙💙

Walking along the edge of the lagoon next to my backpack and tripod, very focused on admiring a beautiful sunset I could see these two trees `hugged 'and I came a lifetime of sow and harvest with my brothers, father and now children who continue in the company, where young people entered at dawn and left at sunset ... today everything is different, unless we are still embraced and we can enjoy the sunset. I had no more to stop kneeling, plant the tripod and wait until nightfall.

It's time for a break here on Flickr.

I will be looking for new photos, taking advantage of nature a bit, to soon bring new works around here to have our exchange of comments and favorites. I confess that really like this feedback I always have here with Flickr friends.

See you soon...until September!

Up until this point, the Northern Lights have eluded us - usually because we're in bed by 23:00 hrs. This time we actually stumbled on them purely by accident. We'd gone to a favorite haunt to see what the sunset was doing - more so for my better half - as I was still feeling under the weather from a virus. In any case, while she was photographing, I was in the car where it was warm, flipped through Facebook, and stumbled on a "KP5 Warning" from The Great Lakes Aurora Hunters. I have no idea what that meant but it looked serious. At the same time another photographer arrived and began setting up. When I asked her about it, she got very exited and started quoting all kinds of numbers and statistics that meant nothing to me.

So we waited to see what would happen and after dark, a faint fog seemed to arc over the northern horizon. There was jubilation from the other two and they talked about never having seen it that bright before. Still wondering what all the fuss was about, I started to see some interruptions in the patterns of the arc, then spikes reaching high overhead, and finally, hints of green and fuchsia. By then I was running back to the car to grab my own camera.

For the next three hours, we alternated by watching and photographing. At one point there appeared to be soft waves of light that flashed up very fast from the horizon - like flames reaching up.

Camera settings included ISO varying from 1600-2000, f2.8-5.6 and shutter speeds of 15 - 30 seconds. No time to think -

just do!

To end this long winded description I'll have to be honest and say the intensity of the lights in this image is not what we actually saw. The light was softer and the colors not as vibrant. But it WAS there and the longer you looked away from the camera LCD, the more visible it became. For the uninitiated like me, It was truly one of those rare "hallelujah" moments!

"Command we are being overrun! I repeat we are being overr"- ... zz static

Muck runs by yelling out that coms have been cut.

"Rhino Squad let's move. We've got to help evacuate Bravo Base."

As I survey the landing pad, I see chaos. With the unexpected attack by the clankers, we were caught completely out in the open.

I immediately signaled for transport. We needed to get moving.

As we approached Bravo Base the last remnants of its personnel were being ravaged by Super Battle droids and B2s.

"Pilot! Put us down on the steps, we'll cover their retreat. You can pick us up when you're loaded."

"Alright, gentlemen we need to secure the steps and prevent the clankers from getting shots on the loading transport! Move! Move! Move!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me know what you guys think! I am not the best at writing stories lmao, so they're always hit or miss. Not sure why the photo is blurry until you zoom in... I've replaced it twice to try and fix it to no avail.

1.2 will hopefully get built as well!

This hiking route visits one of the most beautiful spots in the Benasque Valley: Aigualluts. The route can be done without much effort in four hours, but it is worth taking the time to observe the landscape in detail. It starts and ends in the same place, the car park located in La Besurta.

The path initially runs southwards, along a very obvious path, until reaching the La Renclusa refuge in 50 minutes. We go around it (there is a signpost) to continue southwards towards the La Renclusa pass. The path turns eastwards until reaching the pass, the highest point we will reach today, which we reach in just under an hour and a half from the start.

We continue along the path in an easterly direction, now descending, to the Plan de Aigualluts (two hours and twenty minutes).

Here we turn right to go around the plain on a path equipped with some levers (small bridges) that cross the numerous ravines and streams that reach this plain.

After going around it, we can see on the left the Forao de Aigualluts, a chasm through which the water that comes down from the Aneto glacier seeps to flow into L'Artiga de Lin, in the neighbouring valley of Viella, and therefore flows into the Garonne and not the Ésera.

At the end of the plain that we find below, we can continue straight ahead to return to La Besurta along the old path or ascend a little to the left to find the path that goes up to La Renclusa.
