Last night didn't upload my picture (but I did took it) because I was sharing with my friends from #unplug our annual Christmas dinner. We had a lot of people, friends who I had never seen their faces and the special presence of 2 friends who make life in our venezuelan community being from other countries.
Djamel, who is from France but he talks like a Venezuelan guy and Simon (mrdanger), who is from England and only needs to lose his accent to talk like one of us.
Today Simon goes to his country again but Djamel comes, I can understand with this that Venezuela, with all the chaos that is, is still the beautiful country, friendly and awesome that has always been.

There is a certain degree of irony inherent in this photo. Most of what we did at The Edge was profoundly influenced by the fact that we were away from the Internet, off-the-electrical-grid, focussed on the people, and nurtured by the wonderful environment.
But we did get down to work at times (primarily editing with paper and pen), and did have our cameras and Livescribe pens with us most of the time. I note now as I look closely at this pic that I've got a Mac sitting under the papers, and a memory stick off to the side. When I took this we were approaching the point when each of us revised and submitted an electronic version of our essay. But the tech was certainly unplugged, and we, even more so.
In the left case I mounted a receptacle to the underside of the shelf. This way I can easily plug/unplug the laptop for charging. This was wired to simply plug into a power strip beneath where the other items are also plugged in.
It feels quite strange to be able to post any photos, but it sure feels good : ) After being without a computer for four days, I collected my old and new machines and, to my horror, discovered that there was not a single one of my thousands of photos on my new computer! The word "deleted" flashed through my mind and it wasn't till later yesterday that I was finally able to check my old computer to see if my photos were still on it. Relief flooded through me and I could physically feel my stress level plunge, lol. It took one and a half days of crawling under my computer table to plug and unplug the ever-growing tangle of cords to reach the point where I could actually use my old computer. What a nightmare! To say that I am not impressed with the service I got from the store this week is an understatement. Six years ago, the same people had done such a great job of transferring all the data from an old to a new computer, which is why I went back to them. However, now that the weekend is over and the store will be open again, I have to phone them and ask why they didn't transfer all my images. Tomorrow, I have minor surgery, so all this was supposed to have been done by now, so that I could spend my recovery time editing photos, learning Windows 7, etc.. I knew I would not be able to take or collect the heavy, awkward to carry hard drives or be bending and stretching under my desk for a while, so I am really annoyed, to say the least. For now, though, I am SO relieved that I was finally able to get the new monitor hooked up to the old computer, so that it works. Of course, someone who knows everything about computers would have solved all this many hours sooner : )
This is one of the photos I took a week ago, on 17 February 2014, in Fish Creek Park, in Calgary. We don't get Great Gray Owls within the city, so this beautiful bird has been such a rare treat. A few weeks ago, we were photographing another Great Gray Owl in Griffith Woods, again within city limits. Strange how this has happened - maybe there is just too much deep snow in the countryside and maybe a hard crust has developed, making it too difficult for the owls to find food? As you can tell, this owl is focused on hunting. They are so fascinating to watch - their concentration is amazing.
My youngest grandbaby was amazed when the lights came on! It was awesome. When it was time for nap and bedtime ( I had the pleasure of having him with me for almost a week) I would unplug the tree and he would lay down and sleep. I do so love him =)

I installed my new Mac mini in a rather willy-nilly fashion. Now I have to unplug everything and do it right.
TGIF everyone. It's also "National Unplug Day." A day to get out and enjoy nature, family and friends without all the tech gadgets like TV, computers and phones. So, I'm headed out to enjoy a couple of my favorite wetlands with my camera, of course. The one gadget no one should leave behind. LOL I can't totally give up everything.

thanx to unplug for some of the pictures.
I had no urge to tamper with this copier in any way until I saw the "DO NOT TURN THE COPIER OFF" sign. Now, I can barely resist the urge to unplug the sucker.
My wife and I decided that the best way to unplug from our lives was to get on a boat and get as far away as we can! We got to enjoy to sights and sounds that our southern country of Mexico had to offer aboard the Carnival Fantasy Cruise liner. And, I got to try my hand in street photography using vintage lenses. Honestly one of the best vacations to date, and we are looking forward to going back!
Looks like someone forgot to unplug the engine heater lead from their
car, and it finally came unstuck!

1. On average, children in the US will spend more time in front of the TV (1,023 hours) than in school this year (900 hours).
2. 40% of Americans frequently or always watch television or movies during dinner.
3. The proportion of overweight children has doubled since 1978 due, in part, to sedentary activities such as watching television, surfing the internet and playing video games...
Youth spend over 10 ½ hours a day engaged with media. From television, internet, radio, Ipods, video games, cell phones, Music Videos, and Movies, youth have much more media to contend with now more than any other time in our history. During the Clarity Creative Institute’s Digitally Impaired Conference, the concern was brought up to our panel of experts in 21st Century Youth Culture that today’s generation of youth were losing touch with real contact and communication. Clarity Creative Institute then announced the Digital Day-Off happening on 10/10/10 to address this concern. The Digital Day-Off will be a day for families, children, and individuals to shut off the digital media and communicate off line. They will, in other words, “Unplug to Connect!”
Before you panic, remember that there was a time where people shared, offline. Neighbors talked and got to know one another, families ate dinner together and friends played outside. Digital Day-Off will give families and friends a chance to converse and connect to communicate. During the Digital Day-Off, families will have many options to communicate by taking a break from electronic digital media and become engaged offline. Within the next ten days, Clarity Creative institute will give tips, ideas and suggestions for activities to encourage families and the community to communicate on the Digital Day-Off. Join us as we take one day that can be the difference in strengthening relationships. And remember, on 10/10/10, "Unplug to Connect!"

another handy use of the cablecloak. This is my docking station at work. The cablecloak worked well to organize wires as they were without having to unplug anything or re-wire. This was a huge time saver for me.
