Standing in solidarity, Alberta and Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish closer collaboration and support in the energy sector.
The new partnership will focus on sharing knowledge, expertise and best practices in the energy industry. As part of the MOU, Alberta will strive to provide advisory and physical support for the reconstruction of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Alberta is well-positioned to provide support as Ukraine rebuilds energy infrastructure devastated by the Russian invasion.” Danielle Smith, Premier
The agreement outlines potential areas of cooperation, including hydrocarbon development, electricity, energy efficiency, reducing emissions, developing technology and exploring new sources of energy.
Alberta and Ukraine will establish a general framework for this partnership that could include guidance on other initiatives, such as personnel training, contracting processes, capacity building and innovation.

As a result of the Russian invasion, Ukraine’s production of petroleum and other liquids declined by 70 per cent between 2021 and 2022. Likewise, crude oil and equivalent production in Ukraine declined by 80 per cent during the same period.
Alberta will endeavour to provide help that meets the urgent needs of Ukraine’s energy sector, supplying goods such as energy equipment and services including repairing networks and critical energy infrastructure, and providing much-needed fuel.

Better data is becoming available on economic activity within countries, often much exceeding the available information of economic activity across countries. Introduction: Language is an impactful transmitter of socially shared beliefs and perceptions and can perpetuate patterns of thinking and behaving among people. This power of language has been frequently signalized by dementia activists who perceive the dementia discourse as highly stigmatizing. Basic issue is the term dementia itself and its understanding among users of a given language.
In Polish dementia is otępienie which could be translated as torpor, numbness, stupidity, etc. These common meanings give rudiments for inferring the role which semantics might play in the process of stigmatization of the condition among Polish speakers. Cognitive analyses of understanding otępienie by Polish speakers who are involved in creating dementia discourse may provide a background for anti-stigma initiatives.
Aim: Reconstruction and comparisons of the cognitive frames of otępienie in Polish from the three-fold perspective of care partners of people living with dementia, health care providers and lay-public.
Method: Based on the theory of the Frame Semantics of Charles Fillmore reconstruction
of the cognitive frames of otępienie in Polish language was performed. Qualitative and quantitative methods were applied to analyse the data form National Corpus of Poland and linguistic surveys which were conducted among care partners of people living with dementia, health care providers and lay-public.
Results & conclusions: Cognitive frames of otępienie reconstructed within the current study provide an insight into understanding of dementia among Polish speakers with a distinction into three social groups with different experiences with the condition. The results form the basis for medical communication, e.g. for addressing tailored social messages within behaviour change campaigns. Moreover, they create a foundation for further research on determining the relationship between semantics of dementia and the stigma present in a given society.

The McGee group is going to the ends of the earth to understand how precipitation patterns respond to climate change. Recognizing that past changes provide unique opportunities to test our understanding of the climate system, the group is building high-resolution records of past precipitation changes in sensitive regions around the world using natural precipitation archives such as lake deposits and stalagmites. In the past two years this work has taken the group to shorelines preserving records of large ancient lakes in the deserts of the western U.S. and subtropical South America, to caves in the Yucatan peninsula and deep inside islands in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, and onto a drill rig sampling deeply buried lake sediments in the high tropical Andes.
