Surviving cancer and using art as a tool for healing, reflection and understanding has infused my art with a sense of energy and optimism that has a universal appeal. The process of making the art as well as the meaning of it, are both an integral part of the end result and for me there is always a battle to harmonize between the two – to evoke the emotion of the piece and to empower the viewer.
I love combining traditional and new media painting techniques where one feeds off the energy of the other. The visual collaboration of both medias often celebrates a bold expressionism and optimistic edge regardless of subject matter.
My work has evolved from a mashing of referenced pop art and iconic imagery into elaborate multilayered portraits and scenes that depict a more personal interpretation of my life experience, battles and passions. My goal is to lead the observer to dramatic action, putting them on the edge between what we know and what is unknowable. I’ve learned that something new will always come about when you push hard enough and the result is the revelation of a “new identity”.
The motivation for me to keep going is to gain an understanding of how this “new identity or rebirth or truth” actually reflects my life as well as the world we live in – or not.

What's the point to live your life only through how the life presents itself to you? Is life not much more than that?
The Government of Rwanda and Yale University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster greater cooperation and collaboration in the areas of education and research in sustainable development and environmental protection and conservation.
The signing of the agreement took place during a visit by Rwanda’s Minister of Environment, Vincent Biruta, to the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Affairs. Minister Biruta was joined by a delegation that included the CEO of the Rwanda Green Fund, Hubert Ruzibiza and the Acting Director of the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management at the University of Rwanda, Beth Kaplin.
President Peter Salovey and Yale School of Forestry Dean Ingrid C. (Indy) Burke signed the MOU representing the existing and growing commitment of Deans and Faculty to the partnership.
The visit by the delegation came at the invitation of Professor Marian Chertow, Parfait Gasana (MEM, 2018), and Coral Bielecki (MESc, 2018) who serve as liaisons between Yale and Rwanda. The team facilitated the negotiations and will work to advance the partnership in the years to come.

The McGee group is going to the ends of the earth to understand how precipitation patterns respond to climate change. Recognizing that past changes provide unique opportunities to test our understanding of the climate system, the group is building high-resolution records of past precipitation changes in sensitive regions around the world using natural precipitation archives such as lake deposits and stalagmites. In the past two years this work has taken the group to shorelines preserving records of large ancient lakes in the deserts of the western U.S. and subtropical South America, to caves in the Yucatan peninsula and deep inside islands in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, and onto a drill rig sampling deeply buried lake sediments in the high tropical Andes.
