South Africa hosted the second global Understanding Risk (UR) Forum in Cape Town from July 2-6, 2012. The Forum convened more than 500 thought leaders and decision-makers from 86 countries to exchange knowledge and share best practice in disaster risk assessment.

Del 12 al 14 de febrero Costa Rica es anfitrión del Understanding Risk Centroamérica, una conferencia donde cerca de 500 expertos internacionales se reúnen para conversar sobre prácticas e innovaciones para la compresión del riesgo de desastres y el riesgo climático en Centroamérica.
En la actividad que se desarrolla en el Centro de Convenciones de Costa Rica participan expertos, organizaciones, e instituciones académicas, quienes buscarán construir alianzas estratégicas para pasar de la comprensión del riesgo a la acción en resiliencia ante desastres.
Asimismo, se abordarán diversos temas en materia de inclusión social, compromiso comunitario, patrimonio cultural, resiliencia costera, servicios meteorológicos, climáticos e hidrológicos, resiliencia fiscal y financiera, urbanismo, análisis de riesgos y comunicación del riesgo.
En la inauguración este miércoles participaron Carlos Alvarado, presidente de la República; Vinicio Cerezo, secretario general del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA); Seynabou Sakho, directora del Banco Mundial para Centroamérica; investigadores de la NASA como Sandra Cauffman y Daniel E. Irwin, y el gerente país de Waze para Colombia, Perú y Centroamérica, entre otros invitados.

We are going into the JNUSU polls in less than48 hours now. This year's polls are going to take place in the backdrop of theutterly highhanded and indifferent attitude adopted by the SFI-AISF led JNUSU which has entered into an unholy understanding.

This brazen act of siphoning off of governmentfunds once again reveals the true colours of the SFI-AISF who only breast beat about egalitarianism and their struggle against exploitation of deprived sections of the society. But the fall short of translating their words into deeds (the fact that the abovement1oned councilor candidate eventually lost the elections is a different story altogether). This is not a mere aberration or anisolated case. Instances galore of many more SFI-AISF cadres who continue to cheat the government and the nationsimultaneously. Such deeds are a cruel rebuff to the deserving candidate who genuinely hail from the economically weakersections but can't avail the benef1ts of the scholarships, which results in the shattering of many dreams which could not takewmgs. .

This is to bring to the notice of students of SLL&CS that one of the councilor candidates of SFI-AISF, namely Ratnesh who is astudent of MA 1st year Chinese has not appeared for any sessional exam this semester. As 3 result he will not be allowed to sitfor the end semester exams. Consequently he will not be promoted to the next seme~,'.Jr and as such he will stop being astudent of JNU unless and until he devises ingenuous ways of managing fake health cect1ficates to claim zero semester onhealth grounds. This is a routine for the SFI -AISF cadres who continue to blatantly cheat the ·student community and theadministratjon simultaneously. One of the incumbent SFI -AISF female councilor candidate was caught red handed gettingrailway concession forms made for Goa instead of for her home town. This highlights their moral bankruptcy. With everyone fighting and pointing the finger at each other I find using my lense to speak is very theraputic to me.

Understanding the changing media environment and its impact on our society and political climate is complex, requiring analysis from multiple viewpoints. On May 30-31 2014, a conference brought together scholars across fields including political economy, industrial organization, and economic theory to examine critical questions of how the media shapes our lives today.
You cannot understand Chicago without understanding its "L." The elevated train system has been the city's circulatory system for over a century—a dark, rumbling, steel backbone that cuts right through the heart of the downtown canyons. This station is pure mid-century infrastructure: corrugated metal siding, simple glass windows, and a pair of distinctive green canvas awnings that keep the waiting platforms shaded. The oversized, circular "CTA" logo is a clean, bold graphic anchor, catching the low, warm afternoon sun.
Beneath the tracks, the heavy, rusted steel girders create a dark, industrial underpass. The geometric network of support columns and the steep metal stairs funnel foot traffic down to the sidewalk. But the soul of this underpass is the colorful mural tucked beneath the station. It is a sprawling, hand-painted community canvas—a mosaic of eagles, cityscapes, train cars, and local faces. It transforms a cold, utilitarian passage into a gallery of neighborhood pride. As you look down the street under the tracks, the setting sun glows through the tunnel, silhouetting a row of cars heading into the golden haze. It is a quiet, cinematic moment caught right in the middle of the city's daily rhythm.
