The Way The Mind Sways- MindSways - November 2012
Hi,
In these days of constant noise and mixed messages, we believe it is essential to be different, to be interesting, and most of all, to be engaging. It is without doubt that we live in an increasingly chaotic, complex and often confusing world of speeding change and a constant flow of problems.
Everything we do at Mindsways is about giving you the chance to work with your situation more effectively by understanding it and standing out from it. The core of Mindsways is all about understanding the way that the mind sways (Mind Sways) and about gaining insights into how the mind works (Minds Ways).

The Power of Psychological Artistry
Magic, and in particular, mind magic and visual illusions, are tangible and powerful demonstrations of how our minds work. Because of their subjective nature, illusions are powerful expressions of how we fail to match what we see to the real world around us.
Learning, performing and exploring this gives you a rich resource of information about our psychology, beliefs and behaviours, as well as a number of tools to help enhance what you do whilst being entertaining and engaging.
By getting to know Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry, we can understand how the same cognitive tricks are at work in business, advertising, therapy and all personal relationships. What Is The Sleight of Mind Set Workshop?
The Sleight of Mind Set Workshops are one day workshops all about learning and applying Psychological Artistry and Mind Magic (Mentalism) ideas and techniques to what you do. They start at 10:00 a.m. and finish at 4:30 p.m. As an update, the London programme on 28th November is now fully booked but we have put an extra date on the 20th February 2013. These are being held around the country, in:

What Do You Get On The Workshops?
On the day, you will get the SNT kit, the Sleight of Mind Set kit, which give you the 20 plus physical gimmicks and illusions we explore on the day. You will also get written notes, copies of the presentation we use and access to the online training material for the SNT kit, all included in the fee for the workshop.
All of these items are entertaining, informative, engaging and practical for you to apply to your delivery. Using the materials from the SNT and SMS, you will discover a wealth of practical, real world techniques that can be applied to coaching, training, consultancy, presenting or therapy.
As well as the delivery of the SNT and SMS, we will explore why we believe what we do, why we believe weird things. The workshop weaves a path through Psychological Artistry, Mind Magic, neuroscience and practical delivery methods.
It is for you if you are curious, want to improve how you connect, express and communicate with others. Overall, it is about adding new skills, exploring psychology and standing out, using the ideas from Psychological Artistry and Mind Magic to maximise what you do.

Del 12 al 14 de febrero Costa Rica es anfitrión del Understanding Risk Centroamérica, una conferencia donde cerca de 500 expertos internacionales se reúnen para conversar sobre prácticas e innovaciones para la compresión del riesgo de desastres y el riesgo climático en Centroamérica.
En la actividad que se desarrolla en el Centro de Convenciones de Costa Rica participan expertos, organizaciones, e instituciones académicas, quienes buscarán construir alianzas estratégicas para pasar de la comprensión del riesgo a la acción en resiliencia ante desastres.
Asimismo, se abordarán diversos temas en materia de inclusión social, compromiso comunitario, patrimonio cultural, resiliencia costera, servicios meteorológicos, climáticos e hidrológicos, resiliencia fiscal y financiera, urbanismo, análisis de riesgos y comunicación del riesgo.

It’s worth recalling that in December 2016, the Commissioner for Human Resources Science and Technology, H.E. Dr Martial De Paul Ikounga signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities (AAU), Professor Etienne Ehouan Ehile.
AAU is the voice of higher education in Africa and has been a lead agency in implementing the continental vision since its founding under the OAU. The African Union Agenda 2063 calls for an education and skills revolution to meet the human resource needs for actualising Africa’s social-economic development. As such, the African university occupies a strategic role in ensuring that our education systems are oriented towards promoting innovation, critical thinking, pan Africanism and entrepreneurial orientations while addressing Africa’s challenges and optimising on its opportunities.
The partnership between the AUC and the AAU over the last decade has witnessed the strengthening of the African higher education space through the promotion of intra-African academic mobility, harmonisation of qualifications for mutual recognition across the Member States; and promotion of a culture of continuous quality improvement through the AU’s African Quality Rating Mechanism.
The AAU has been able to mobilise African academia to appropriate the continental vision of Agenda 2063, and it has helped to build accountable leadership and quality in research and scholarship
GOAL: To increase engagements between the AAU and North America and the Diaspora
Objectives
• Mobilize funds for the advancement of Higher Education in Africa.
• Promote and develop relations between the African Academic Diaspora and African Higher Education Institutions (HEI).
• Promote sister university collaborations
• Promote and develop research and education networks among African Higher Education Institutions and their North American counterparts
• Promote corporate and non-profit America to support African Higher Education Institutions
• Sensitize potential development partners to the education needs of African HEIs
• Promote student and staff exchange
• Promote a role for Higher Education in US-Africa relations
• Develop and implement comprehensive international Initiatives for senior leadership at public research universities to facilitate seamless integration of international dimensions into the learning, discovery and engagement missions of our AAU institutions.

• Identify critical issues, gather information, and create opportunities for AAU members to discuss challenges and share knowledge with their NA counterparts.

(Laboratories of Analytical Biology), of the multiple laboratories at the National Museum of Natural History, Washington D.C., June 17, 2025. Every day, experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) protect U.S. agriculture and natural resources by identifying pests intercepted on incoming shipments at ports of entry or found around the country. To support this critical work, APHIS signed a memorandum of understanding with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History to co-locate APHIS entomology and botany experts with other Federal and Smithsonian experts already working at the museum. This move will not only consolidate vital knowledge in one place, but it will also give APHIS experts access to the museum’s resources, including their extensive arthropod collection, which is a critical pest identification tool. In Your Experience, How Much Practical Understanding Do You Have of God’s Salvation?
Since I was small, I had always had a strong desire to be better than others. No matter what group of people I was in, I always sought to be the best. While I was still at school, though I had an average mind and my grades weren’t outstanding, I studied very hard so that I wouldn’t fall behind the other students. Teachers praised me for my desire to make progress, and relatives also praised me for being such a diligent student and taking my studies so seriously. I would often feel proud of myself for receiving their praise and getting favorable comments from them, and I considered myself top of my age group. After I’d accepted God’s work in the last days, I came to understand some truths by reading God’s words and living the church life, and I saw that, no matter what disposition God expresses, whether it be mercy, lovingkindness or righteous judgment and chastisement, they are all God’s true love for man. My heart was moved and inspired by God’s love, and I felt that the only right path in life was to believe in God and seek to be perfected by God. I therefore made a resolution to pursue the truth in earnest, to give up everything and expend myself for God to repay His love. But because my deeply-rooted corrupt disposition and satanic nature had not yet been resolved, I still sought to distinguish myself and to make others look highly upon me when performing my duties. I remember one time when I was given the choice of two duties, and without any hesitation whatsoever I chose the duty that I thought would cause others to look highly upon me. Once I’d started this duty, a sense of superiority arose in my heart, so much so that I looked down on other brothers and sisters, thinking that they were only doing common duties, whereas I was performing an important duty, and that I was a person of talent in God’s family.

God’s words say: “God pays a price—a painstaking price—for every individual, and they each have His will. God has expectations for everyone, and He entrusts them all with His hope. He freely pays the painstaking price for those people of His own will, and He willingly gives His life and truth to every individual. So God is gratified if anyone is able to understand this aim of His. If you can accept and obey the things He does, and if you can receive all from God, He then feels that the painstaking price has not been paid in vain. This means that, if you have lived up to the care and thought God has invested in you, you have reaped the rewards in every environment, and haven’t disappointed God’s hopes in you, and if what God does on you has had the expected effect and has reached the expected objective, then God’s heart is satisfied” (“To Attain the Truth, You Must Learn From the People, Matters, and Things Around You” in Records of Christ’s Talks). God’s words allowed me to feel His love and warmth, and allowed me to perceive that every tiny thing God did for me contains God’s care, thought and painstaking effort, just as God’s words say: “… how important God’s love is to man. But what is even more crucial is man’s appreciation and comprehension of God’s love” (“God’s Work, God’s Disposition, and God Himself I” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). I recalled how I always used to have a sense of superiority when performing my duties in the church at home, and in that kind of environment, my vain heart derived satisfaction and I suffered nothing at all—how then could I have realized the harm reputation and status were causing me? Only God knew what vital weaknesses I still had that had not yet been resolved, and God knew what environment to orchestrate for me in which He could better save me. God treated me like an ignorant child who doesn’t know what it is to be hungry. When parents prepare a bowl of nutritious food that is best for the child and they bring it to him, then even if the child doesn’t want to eat it or cries and screams because he doesn’t like the taste, the parents will patiently use all kinds of methods and apply all their wisdom to get the child to eat it, so that he grows up healthy and strong. This was how God was supplying and nurturing me now, and yet I was like that ignorant child, harboring so many misunderstandings and so much blame toward God, so much so that there were many times when I wanted to rid myself of God’s sovereignty and arrangements and flee from these situations. But God had not made a fuss about my transgressions, but instead had used His words to enlighten and guide me, had worked to save me and had delivered me onto the right path in life. While God worked in this way, I truly felt how real God’s salvation of me was, and how sincere God’s heart was. In order to get me to understand the truth and so that He could change my corrupt disposition, God maneuvered so many people, matters and things and arranged so many situations in my service. Some I let slip by, some I stubbornly rejected, and there were so many times when I misunderstood God or rebelled against Him, and there were so many times when I cried and wailed before God. That I can today have this knowledge and be transformed is the result of God judging, chastising, trying and refining me time and time again. In order for the truth to be wrought within me and in order to change my corrupt disposition, God expended such great painstaking effort on me—God’s love is so real. From now on, no matter what situations God arranges for me, or what duties He arranges for me to do, I will always accept them and obey. I will use my heart to experience, savor and feel God’s love, so that I can know God even more, become someone who obeys God, worships God and loves God, and live out a life of value and meaning.

I visited the "Mapping Knowledge. Understanding the World through Data" exhibition in Mons, Belgium, which is European capital of culture in 2015. An exhibition for all persons interested in data visualisation/infographics, and all those interested by the "knowledge" topic. The biggest surprise for me was to discover and to learn more about the Mundaneum. It is the crazy project of two Belgian, Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine, who tried in the late nineteenth century to gather and classified the world’s knowledge available on...paper at that time. They created an internet on paper! Their final goal was to design the ideal society, with the help of Le Corbusier. Mundaneum is not only a big crazy project but it is also the place and the concept that hosts the exhibition (The message is the medium. Isn't?)
The exhibition starts with a large timeline of "data visualisations" (maps, drawings, etc) which begins in 366AC.
An interesting part of the exhibition is on the tree (symbol of knowledge) and its use in visualisations to represent the organisation of knowledge. Another part offers orginal works by Paul Otlet done for the Mundaneum project, wonderful. A part is dedicated to "invisible networks and cities" which proposes visualisations of the hidden flow of data around us. To finish, a section on "Data is art" where artists use data to create pieces of art.

This is my good listening and concentrating face. As we approach the end of the quarter here at school and are all stressed out and sick of each other, understanding is pretty damn important. We're all basically in the same boat, don't really wanna piss anyone else, but there is also the strong desire to kill each other. So yeah, understanding this, each other, and some other things will help us in these troubled times. Maybe all the prospective grad students who visited OU and said everyone was "super stressed" were onto something....
And even if you're not in an intense graduate studio environment on the QUARTER SYSTEM, this basic information applies.
