Walking around U of T campus back and forth, I found lots of old houses like this one where I am not so sure if anyone actually lives in. Why not rather spending so much on having new buildings, the school actually develops these decaying areas?
Better veiw of a bad insulation job. Also note the ductwork that is not sealed....that return is sucking in extreme weather everytime the unit runs (the unit is mixing the unconditioned air with the conditioned air....costing you money).
The space behind knee walls that are located in bonus rooms above a garage or in an attic are almost always left by builders as unconditioned space. Even when fiberglass batt insulation is placed between the studs, cold or warm air is still able to enter through soffit systems in the attic and flow freely behind the walls allowing the room to become cold in the winter and warm in the summer.
This is it.. in its natural form.. unwashed, unconditioned.. its really shiny and soft though.. but not white like snow :/

Wall outlets are terrible leakers of air to the inside of the home envelope. This one is behind a knee wall in a bonus room and exposed to unconditioned space. One solution is to buy the little foam inserts that go behind the outlet cover. While they do stop some of the air penetration, they don’t keep your walls from getting cold from the air circulating through them.
Your mind is like this. It can smile and turn on the light but it doesn't have to convince anyone. It is unconditioned, unborn and unceasing. You can't find it yet it's always there. Why not smile or cry? These beautiful adornments are what they are and you can also just relax at any time.
The bedroom floor has decades of carpet glue, paint, and misc unidentifiable goo. Not to mention that it's so unconditioned it sucks up ANY moisture near it. We don't want to leave it as is because it'll just absorb and stain more than it is now.
