The photo demonstrates Exposure Therapy which is when a therapist seeks to treat a patient's fears/anxiety. In the picture, the person is presented with a dog which makes them scared (Conditioned stimulus). However, over time, when they are presented with shave ice (Unconditioned stimulus) and the dog (Conditioned stimulus), they are comfortable (Unconditioned response). Eventually, the dog should not make the person scared because they have been conditioned to act calmly (Conditioned response).

Squid Lights - A well-known cephalopod biologist sums up the state of knowledge (or lack thereof) and I don't know of any real progress in the ensuing 32 years:

It is well known that many cephalopods [squids and octopuses] can be attracted to lights at night but the attraction mechanisms are not understood. Woodhead (1966) and Bearse and Saila (1975) reviewed and summarized most of the current theories of light attraction among marine organisms: 1) positive phototaxis 2) intensity preference (brightness) 3) wavelength preference (color response) 4) con-ditioned or unconditioned response where light is associated with food 5) curiosity 6) photic disorientation and 7) hypnosis. No one has reliably determined which factors are responsible in any particular species. (Roger Hanlon 1979).

The first three possibilities are all built-in biological features. True or not, none of them are very satisfying. In fact, they're almost tautological: "Squid are attracted to light because squid are attracted to light."

Numbers 4 and 5 are much better: squid swim toward light because they either think it's food or just want to check it out. We humans are quite familiar with the powerful motivations of hunger and curiosity.

Numbers 6 and 7 are a little disturbing, but who knows? Perhaps one day an enterprising scientist will discover just the right pattern of lights to hypnotize squid into jumping on the boat and saving fishers the trouble of catching them.

There's just so much yet to learn about squid, and so few teuthologists to do the learning!

Within the urgent demands of daily life it is required of our immortal souls to find God now.

Christ Jesus emphasized the eternal, inseparable relationship between God and his children with the use of the words “Our Father” as he set forth in “The Lord’s Prayer”.

In God’s kindness and love all beings can find inner strength, peace, joy and realization.

We need only lift the insidious, soul shrouding veil of delusion to be aware of his presence.

To live in the consciousness of God is to be through with enslavement to suffering and fear.

To experience the Divine Presence brings happiness into one’s life beyond all expectations.

Through unfailing devotion we can behold each unfolding drama with the calm joy of life

as seen through a lens of immortality. We begin to see eternal life through God’s eyes.

We realize age and time are non existent. We become aware we are, and life is, eternal.

We rekindle the purity of childhood when we trust that we are secure in God’s loving care.

The deeper our communion with God the more we transcend the ensnaring web of delusion.

A consistent inner happiness unconditioned by external influence is proof of the

responding presence of God and the magnificence of his eternal illumination.

God wants us to live our lives as “immortals” so we can remain detached from

life’s constant roller coaster ride. We intuitively understand, “This too shall pass”.

“When we are ready to leave “this stage of life” we can say with certainty;

Father, this was all very enlightening but now I am ready to come home.

By steadfast devotion I have regained the purity of The Lost Garden of Eden.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away. -- Revelation 21:4

Tply to be installed for air barrier between conditioned/unconditioned adjoining walls

In order to rediscover nowness, you have to look back, back to where you came from, back to the original state. In this case, looking back is not looking back in time, going back several thousand years. It is looking back into your own mind, to before history began, before thinking began, before thought ever occurred. When you are in contact with this original ground, then you are never confused by the illusions of past and future. You are able to rest continuously in nowness.

This original state of being can be likened to a primordial, or cosmic, mirror. By primordial, we mean unconditioned, not caused by any circumstances. Something primordial is not a reaction for or against any situation. All conditionality comes from unconditionality. Anything that is made has to come from what was unmade, to begin with. If something is conditioned, it has been created or formed. In the English language, we speak of formulating ideas or plans, or we may say, "How should we form our organization?" or we may talk about the formation of a cloud. In contrast to that, the unconditioned is free from being formed, free from creation. This unconditioned state is likened to a primordial mirror because, like a mirror, it is willing to reflect anything, from the gross level up to the refined level, and it still remains as it is. The basic frame of reference of the cosmic mirror is quite vast, and it is free from any bias: kill or cure, hope or fear.

The way to look back and experience the state of being of the cosmic mirror is simply to relax. In this case, relaxation is quite different from the setting-sun idea of flopping or taking time off, entertaining yourself with good vacation. Relaxation here refers to relaxing the mind, letting go of anxiety and concepts and depression that normally bind you. The way to relax, or rest the mind in nowness, is through the practice of meditation. The practice of meditation is connected to renouncing small-mindedness and personal territory. In meditation you are neither "for" nor "against" your experience. That is, you don't praise some thoughts and condemn others, but you take an unbiased approach. You let things be as they are, without judgment, and in that way you yourself learn to be, to express your existence directly, nonconceptually. That is the ideal state of relaxation, which allows you to experience the nowness of the cosmic mirror.

If you are able to relax---relax to a cloud by looking at it, relax to a drop of rain and experience its genuineness---you can see the unconditionality of reality, which remains very simply in things as they are, very simply. When you are able to look at things without saying, "This is for me or against me," "I can go along with this," or "I cannot go along with this," then you are experiencing the state of being of the cosmic mirror, the wisdom of the cosmic mirror. You may see a fly buzzing; you may see a snowflake; you may see ripples of water; you may see a black widow spider. You may see anything, but you can actually look at all those things with simple and ordinary, but appreciative perception.

You experience a vast realm of perceptions unfolding. There is unlimited sound, unlimited sight, unlimited taste, unlimited feeling, and so on. The realm of perception is limitless, so limitless that perception itself is primordial, unthinkable, beyond thought. There are so many perceptions that they are beyond imagination. There are a vast number of sounds. There are sounds that you have never heard. There are sights and colors that you have never seen. There are feelings that you have never experienced before. There are endless fields of perception.

Perception here is not just what you perceive but the whole act of perceiving---interaction between consciousness, the sense organs, and the sense fields, or the objects of perception. In some religious traditions, sense perceptions are regarded as problematic, because they arouse wordly desires. However, in the Shambhala tradition, which is a secular tradition rather than a religious one, sense perceptions are regarded as sacred. They are regarded as basicaly good. They are a natural gift, a natural ability that human beings have. They are a source of wisdom. If you don't see sights, if you don't hear sounds, if you don't taste food, you have no way to communicate with the phenomenal world at all. But because of the extraordinary vastness of perception, you have possibilities of communicating with the depth of the world---the world of sight, the world of sound---the greater world.

In other words, your sense faculties give you access to possibilities of deeper perception. Beyond ordinary perception, there is super-sound, super-smell, and super-feeling existing in your state of being. These can be experienced only by training yourself in the depth of meditation practice, which clarifies any confusion or cloudiness and brings out the precision, sharpness, and wisdom of perception---the nowness of your world. In meditation, you experience the precision of breath going in and out. You feel your breath: it is so good. You breathe out, breath dissolves: it is so sharp and good, it is so extraordinary that ordinary preoccupations become superfluous. So meditation practice brings out the super-natural, if I may use that word. You do not see ghosts or become telepathic, but your perceptions become super-natural, simply super-natural.

Normally, we limit the meaning of perceptions. Food reminds us of eating; dirt reminds us to clean the house; snow reminds us that we have to clean off the car to get to work; a face reminds us of our love or hate. In other words, we fit what we see into a comfortable or familiar scheme. We shut any vastness or possibilities of deeper perception out of our hearts by fixating on our own interpretation of phenomena. But it is possible to go beyond personal interpretation, to let vastness into our hearts through the medium of perception. We always have a choice: we can limit our perception so that we close off vastness, or we can allow vastness to touch us.

Out ward bound or Outbound”, in today’s concept, is a powerful platform for unsimulated and unconditioned activities to understand self and limitations. Unlike simulated and conditioned day-to-day mundane work within four walls in which we are all involved and act, outbound is mostly amidst undisturbed nature. Undisturbed environment such as forests, mountains, deserts or sea provides ample scope for overcoming inhibitions. Lord Buddha meditated on his breathing in and breathing out. It was the eve of the full moon. During the first part of the night many evil thoughts, described as being like the evil god Mara and his army, crept into his mind. Thoughts of desire, craving, fear and attachment arose, yet Gotama did not allow these thoughts to disturb his concentration. He sat more firm than ever. He began to feel calm and brave as he let these thoughts go and so, in the first part of the night, he found the power of seeing his own past lives.

In the second part of the night Gotama realised the impermanence of life and how living beings die only to be reborn again. In the third part of the night he realised the cause of all evil and suffering and how to be released from it. He understood how to end sorrow, unhappiness, suffering, old age and death.

The Buddha had withstood the worst attacks of Mara. Finally, the Evil One retreated and the terrible storm he had raised died away. Now the mind of the Blessed One relaxed into peace. The great darkness faded away and the full moon and stars reappeared again.

The Lord passed into a deep meditation, passing beyond the limits of ordinary human understanding, seeing the world as it is, and not as it appears to be. Like an eagle soaring effortlessly toward the sun, his mind moved swiftly onward and upward.

He saw his past lives and all his former births, with their good and evil deeds, with their gains and losses. As his mind soared upwards he saw the round of birth and death of all mankind. He saw beings born repeatedly and dying according to their karma.

Those who do good actions have heavenly births. Though these lives last longer than those on earth they also end in death, as they are also subject to the law of impermanence. Those who were suffering in the hell realms would also continue in the round of rebirths. So all beings (except Buddhas) are caught in the same round of existence, due to ignorance.

As his vision became even clearer, he saw the so-called soul of man, which man claims as his own, broken up into parts and laid before him like the unwoven threads of a garment. He saw the cause of the chain of existence — ignorance. The ignorant person, who clings to things that are worthless and transient, creates in him or herself more and more dangerous illusions. But when desire dies, illusions end, and ignorance vanishes like the night. Then the sun of enlightenment shines.

And having understood the world as it is, the Buddha was perfected in wisdom, never to be born again. Craving and destructive desire had been completely eradicated — as a fire goes out for lack of fuel.

Bathed in the brilliant light of all wisdom and truth sat the Buddha, the Perfect One. And all about him the world lay calm and bright and a soft breeze lifted the leaves of the bodhi tree.

Filled with compassion, the Lord sat beneath the tree in deep contemplation of the Dharma, residing in the perfect peace of nirvana.

At the dawn after his enlightenment the Buddha uttered this verse:

"Thro' many a birth in samsara wandered

Seeking, but not finding, the builder of this house.

Sorrowful is repeated birth.

House builder, thou art seen.

Thou shalt build no house again.

All thy rafters are broken; thy ridgepole is shattered.

The mind attains the unconditioned.

Achieved is the end of craving."

.....the devil and a friend of his were walking down the street, when they saw ahead of them a man stoop down and pick up something from the ground, look at it, and put it away in his pocket.

The friend said to the devil, "What did that man pick up?"

"He picked up a piece of the truth," said the devil.

"That is a very bad business for you, then," said his friend.

"Oh, not at all," the devil replied, "I am going to help him organize it."

I maintain that truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. That is my point of view, and I adhere to that absolutely and unconditionally. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or coerce people along a particular path.

............ said Krishnamurti (1895 - 1986)

Foam sealant around top plates, prevents air infiltration from conditioned to unconditioned space

In order to realise ourselves, as we actually are, we need to gain some understanding of exactly how we have distanced ourselves from ourselves. We need to recognise the mechanisms by which we have distances ourselves from our essential being. To do this, we need to explore the geography of duality. We need to do this because every aspect of our personal duality is dynamically linked to our intrinsic enlightenment -- our liberated-being. Exploration of this nature progresses on three fronts; and in Tibetan tradition these are known as view, meditation, and action. In Tibetan, view is tawa, meditation is gompa, and action is chodpa. These also equate to cho-ku (dharmakaya, the sphere of unconditioned potentiality), long-ku (sambhogakaya, the sphere of intangible appearance), and trul-ku or tulku (nirmanakaya, the sphere of realised manifestation).

We can develop our view. View in this sense has nothing to do with philosophy. View is the uncharacterised way in which we see ourselves and our surroundings. That is to say: it is not a constructed conceptualised way of seeing the world. It is simply seeing the world. It is intrinsically effortless and uncontrived. View involves our ceasing to employ preconceptions as part of the methodology with which we investigate our situation. View is the recognition that logical analysis is limited. It is the recognition that intellectual comprehension is no substitute for direct experience.

The development of view is encouraged by meditation. In the context of starting out on the path, meditation is the practice of shi-ne: the discovery of space. From the ultimate perspective (the perspective of the realised state itself), meditation is not a fabricated state that needs to be artificially maintained; it is our natural state and as such only needs to be discovered. It is actually quite hilarious, that the method of discovery IS the discovery. This hilarity itself is only possible because our innate realisation sparkles through. The real quality of meditation is sheer efforlessness, and shi-ne is a way of approaching this state. It is a way of encouraging ourselves to dispense with the illusion that we are unenlightened.

View encourages us to gain direct experience through meditation, and meditation gives us confidence of view. View and meditation are the basis of action, which is the dynamic of our relationship with the world. That is to say: how we respond when view and meditation are present in the moment. Action is the endless and spontaneous dance ignited by precise sensitivity to whatever happens. We flow harmoniously with what is, wherever we happen to find ourselves. Action is not a "way of acting" -- it is being: unrestricted, uncontrived, unconditioned, and unlimited. In Tibetan tradition, the development of these three -- tawa, gompa and chodpa -- is the principle of the path.

In this exploration of emotions we are dealing largely with view. In the development of view we come to recognise the different patterns that evolve from referentiality. We recognise the different styles of distraction that are available when we distance ourselves from experience and drift into indirect experience -- duality. These patterns are pale and painful imitations of our liberated energies. The pain that we experience arises from our continual struggle to maintain our illusion of solidity, permanence, separateness, continuity and definition.

Being is not attached to reference points. Being does not rely for its existence on any style of perceptual cross-referencing. Trying to locate being is like attemptimg to suspend time and movement -- it is not possible. So, we might as well simply be. Ironically, in order to just be, we need discipline. This is necessary because from our bizarre standpoint we apparently do not know how to be. We seem to have the idea that there is a special method involved in being; but being is methodless. However, the methodlessness of being is something that the limitations of our foggy faculties cannot encompass. Conventional perspectives cannot handle that principle; in fact most avenues of approach cannot cope with it at all. So we need to feel our way with delicacy, daring and determination. We have to acclimatise ourselves to the method of non-method. We discover the effortless spontaneity of being, through the practice of shi-ne -- the introduction to space.

This bay is where I usually run finishing off the whole 3km of the fort or sometimes when I'm conditioned, a double turn. It was the golden hour on a very symbolic spot. Every meter, every step on this white, numbered box, is a subtle success for an unconditioned runner, or maybe for accomplished runners, too. I just love the yellow light radiating to the bricks.

It was built around the site of a church that bombed during WW2. This unconditioned space has the feel of an archaeological dig. The wooden deck holds the visitor above the dug out ruins of the cathedral.

This is the entry into the house that would typically be used by the homeowners. The door opens into a hall with doors to the garage, kitchen (main part of the house) and stairs to the basement. The entry and hallway is currently extremely dark and cold, as it's unconditioned space (no heating/cooling).

There have always been Crawl Spaces around, but they are becoming more popular because homeowners begin to realize their improved convenience. Is crawl space encapsulation worth the cost? Yes, it is worth. If you compare concrete floors and conventional floor setups, crawl spaces will grant easy access to the plumbing setup together with air ducts, and repairing them becoming effortless.

Moreover, crawlspaces were also used as a storage facility. Although, there are several disadvantages of crawl spaces such as trapped moisture, carpenter ants, termites, and vermin; accumulation of foul gases and invasion of wildlife.

I’ve been doing crawl space encapsulation business for more than two decades now. A good number of correspondences I have addressed were always concerning the foul smell and bad odors that are generated from crawlspaces. It’s imperative to recognize the root causes behind such foul odors and you need to work on strategies that will eliminate the root causes. Crawlspace encapsulation is relatively a new technique which will help you to protect your crawl space and the health of your family.

However, you need to know how to choose the right encapsulation system for your home. By encapsulating your crawl space, you no longer have to worry about rodents or other wild animals invading your crawl space, moisture accumulation, termites and foul smell that was haunting you for long. A Do-It-Yourself encapsulation kit will undisputedly help you to protect your home from unwanted disasters.

Choosing the Right Crawl Space Encapsulation System: Things You Should Look For

There are four potential threats for your crawl space: mold, water, rodents, and other animals. The foul smell is as a result of all these elements. Your crawl space is the natural source of fresh air but when the odor is generated in this area, the fresh air entering your home will also be affected. By eliminating the root causes of odor, you can significantly improve the air quality in your home.

Liner: I received several phone calls from disappointed customers who spent their hard-earned money on thin liners because some store owner advised them to do so. However, any liner material without 0.000 permeability and at least 20mil thickness won’t help you to encapsulate the system and prevent water and radon gas entering your home.

Water: You need a waterproof encapsulation because this will help you to prevent rainwater or any other source of running water entering your crawlspace. Moreover, this will also help you to bring down the moisture level, which is a good initiative in making your crawl space unsuitable for rodents and mold.

Dehumidifier: If you install the proper liner system, the need for a dehumidifier is greatly reduced as the purpose of removing moisture. The reason being, that a proper liner system will stop the water or moisture before it gets into the home or crawlspace, thus eliminating the need for a dehumidifier.

Mold Neutralizer: Dehumidifiers can prevent mold growth to a large extent, but mold neutralizer destroys bacteria, alga, and mold and also prevents their future growth.

These are some important factors to be considered when installing an encapsulation system for your home. You also need to consider the warranty & price offered by your store owner.

Maintaining your home can be expensive, but by investing in professional encapsulating systems that will protect your home for several decades, you’re making a wise investment. Is crawl space encapsulation worth the cost? Yes, it is worth and you will not regret. You can protect your crawl space from damages and health hazards, thus making it a very useful space for households.

Benefits of Crawl Space Encapsulation

Together with crawl space insulation and vapor barrier installation, crawl space encapsulation has continuously become popular in the past few years. Many people are turning to the realization that taking care of such spaces has more than one benefit, despite the high installation costs that might be involved. To respond to this new realization, the maintenance, and repair industry has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. So, what are the most common benefits that you can reap from having a well encapsulated and insulated crawl space? Here is a look!

It assists you in maintaining your home Value

Since this type of insulation and encapsulation are becoming standard home trimmings, homeowners who have these installed in their homes increase the value of their home in the market should they need to sell.

Crawl space encapsulation will also reduce the wear and tear of your home, this makes it durable. Moisture and Water could bring havoc to your house. Whether there are measures you have been taking to care for it. Although it is possible to control the water quagmire without resulting in encapsulation, it is evident that encapsulation plays a vital role in completely stemming it out. It is not easy to control Moisture without proper encapsulation and insulation.

Safeguarding the health of your family

Crawl space which is well-ventilated means a healthy family. Moisture that is not attended to in the crawl spaces will be the source of your respiratory ailments which your family will fall prey to. This includes deadly diseases such as asthma. To stop this problem once and for all, you should consider tending to the problem. Installing a vapor barrier coupled with the best insulation and encapsulation will help you kick out some of these problems.

It reduces the Maintenance Costs

Crawl space that is not attended to attract moisture which can, in turn, provides a very conducive atmosphere for mold and mildew to grow. This will bring havoc to your house through eating on materials and paint that is used in building your house. In the long run, it leads to high maintenance costs of your house. A space like this without the proper insulation also attracts termites which can destroy the foundation of your house.

Don’t forget that we have not mentioned energy bills that will be used to standardize the air in your place. Without the correct insulation, unconditioned air from outside mixes with the inside air demanding a lot of energy to put it under control. You can reduce your energy bills by having this type of encapsulation installed in your home.

With all these benefits in place, it is not hard to see why such type of encapsulation has caught the craze in the market. You are sure to get a lot more than you can think of and save on your pocket too.

Crawl Space Pros has the expertise as well as proper customer care system, the entire installation process will be quite simple and smooth. You don’t have to worry about your crawl space for at least 25 years!

How to Be a Poet

(to remind myself)

i

Make a place to sit down.

Sit down. Be quiet.

You must depend upon

affection, reading, knowledge,

skill—more of each

than you have—inspiration,

work, growing older, patience,

for patience joins time

to eternity. Any readers

who like your poems,

doubt their judgment.

ii

Breathe with unconditional breath

the unconditioned air.

Shun electric wire.

Communicate slowly. Live

a three-dimensioned life;

stay away from screens.

Stay away from anything

that obscures the place it is in.

There are no unsacred places;

there are only sacred places

and desecrated places.

iii

Accept what comes from silence.

Make the best you can of it.

Of the little words that come

out of the silence, like prayers

prayed back to the one who prays,

make a poem that does not disturb

the silence from which it came.

Here is a good example of a plumbing chase open from the basement to the attic. You can see where heat is escaping right into the unconditioned attic.

It may not seem like much to have a small gap here and there around an electrical wire or plumbing pipe - but they all add up - to where you could have a basketball-size hole in your house! A lot of cold/hot air can be leaving/coming into your house through that!

As part of our structural framing inspection they look to see that you have sealed these holes in all of your bottom and top plates that connect "the conditioned space with unconditioned space".

Long i have been the native of forests , trees have always been hearing my deadly screams, i could make them understand what i feel but i couldnt make people do the same, its been a pleasure being alone and unconditioned, i could do whatever i wanted in one word i can say 'NOW I WALK INTO THE WILD'

Since MN has some pretty archaic liquor laws, you cannot buy alcohol on Sundays. UNLESS you go to a bar or restaurant and buy it from them, have it cork it for you, and then bring it home.Mid-way through GNI (Girls' Night In), we ran out of wine, so my friend and I made a jaunt to Duplex, a nearby wine bar, and bought two bottles of kinda pricey champagne. It was about 100 degrees outside and we were in my friend's unconditioned apartment, whcih explains the, uh, "glow" we are both sporting....

Lord, thank you for giving me hope when I look at my sinful past, and for giving me courage when I face the uncertain failure ahead of me. My only assurance is your unconditioned love and forgiveness. Amen

Meditation is working with our speed, our restlessness, our constant busyness. Meditation provides space or ground in which restlessness might function, might have room to be restless, might relax by being restless. If we do not interfere with restlessness, then restlessness becomes part of the space. We do not control or attack the desire to catch our next tail.

Meditation practice is not a matter of trying to produce a hypnotic state of mind or create a sense of restfulness. Trying to achieve a restful state of mind reflects a mentality of poverty. Seeking a restful state of mind, one is on guard against restlessness. There is a constant sense of paranoia and limitation. We feel a need to be on guard against the sudden fits of passion or agression which might take us over, make us lose control. This guarding process limits the scope of the mind by not accepting whatever comes.

Instead, meditation should reflect a mentality of richness in the sense of using everything that occurs in the state of mind. Thus, if we provide enough room for restlessness so that it might function within the space, then the energy ceases to be restless because it can trust itself fundamentally. Meditation is giving a huge, luscious meadow to a restless cow. The cow might be restless for a while in its huge meadow, but at some stage, because there is so much space, the restlessness becomes irrelevant. So the cow eats and eats and eats and relaxes and falls asleep.

Acknowledging restlessness, identifying with it, requires mindfulness, whereas providing a luscious meadow, a big space for the restless cow requires awareness. So mindfulness and awareness always complement each other. Mindfulness is the process of relating with individual situations directly, precisely, definitely. You communicate or connect with problematic situations or irritating situations in a simple way. There is ignorance, there is restlessness, there is passion, there is agression. They need not be praised or condemned. They are just regarded as fits. They are conditioned situations, but they could be seen accurately and precisely by the unconditioned mindfulness. Mindfulness is like a microscope; it is neither an offensive nor a defensive weapon in relation to the germs we observe through it. The function of the microscope is just to clearly present what is there. Mindfulness need not refer to the past or the future; it is fully in the now. At the same time it is an active mind involved in dualistic perceptions, for it is necessary in the beginning to use that kind of discriminating judgement.

Located in overhang, behind shed.

Right now, the air is exhausted outside, which is a problem as the shop fills with unconditioned air. There's no room inside for the filter, so will box it in and put a vent going back into the shed.

This photo was taken in an auspicious art gallery that was located on the famed Espanola Way. On the last night that Mark and I were in South Beach, we were walking back to our hotel and spotted yet another art gallery.

In the few days that we were there, we had visited numerous galleries that had happened to be free. Most were just run-of-the-mill type galleries, but the one that this picture had a different feel to it. The art gallery that this painting hung in screamed “starving artist”. It was unconditioned with stone walls that looked as if they desperately needed a fresh coat of paint…that no one had the cash to pay for.

After he has been old and sock. I have named him with a new name "Su- name " meaning blessing name. Ofcourse bless him to have better health.

Tracy and I think the fall season outweighs all the other seasons-- its by far the most rewarding and delightful in the way of weather and for the beautiful fresh produce that you can consume. The list of organic veggies this year at the West End Farmer’s market was augmented by numerous out of towner’s. Our favorite, a fellow from Keremeos, “Gurt” was a very knowledgeable farmer, loaded with 6- plus varieties of garlic! He made it most weekends. The blueberries this year are 2 weeks early on account of the dry summer and we found some beauties to eat and freeze for the winter. This year is also the 4-year cycle for spawning Sockeye (have to get to the Adams river to check it out!) and it’s supposed to be a bigger return than usual. We found some nice fillets at the farmers market brought down from the Skeena area and stocked up with about 40 lbs. Also, if you like salmon, we have a good salmon recipe for you alchoholic’s. It uses whiskey, maple syrup, bacon, garlic, coarse pepper, lemon and butter! “Delightful Margret”

Another highlight would be, of course, Red & Millers garden and fish smoker. They have a great selection of organic veggies, raspberries, potatoes and beans that spoil all of us. Tracy spends a few days jarring them, including the picking and jarring of 360 lbs of tomatoes, that she divides with her mom and sisters. Most of the tomatoes they go find are from Nicola River Area. (not far from Spences Bridge)

Tracy B. and myself just spent some time around the South Chilcotin—something we have meant to do for a while. The scenery through Pemberton Meadows into the high alpine Hurley Pass and descent into the Bridge River Valley is stunning. You may not be happy on the Hurley pass with a small car or a vehicle with low profile tires as the washboard and rocks will kill your tires/suspension. The Hurley River Road is not a highway but a Forest Service Road that is not maintained on a regular basis. For clearance reasons a 4x4 is the best vehicle suited for this road. (Bad roads seem to bring good people there...we met good peoples, people). It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to get over the pass from Pemberton Meadows until you t-bone highway 40 that will take you to Lillooet or Goldbridge. On a good day you should be able to get from Vancouver via Hurley pass to highway 40 in 4-5 hours.

Taughton lake turnoff itself, is about 85 km northwest of Lillooet.

Driving in on the main road to the Tyax lodge, we went past the lake by mistake thinking there might be a forestry campsite near the lake area further on. After climbing a hill and going around sharp corner, we saw a bear paused momentarily in the middle of the road and realized by the color and shape of the back, it was a yearling Grizzly! Had to do a u turn and head to the resort since we wanted lake front accommodation's. At the main lodge we were able to describe the bear we had seen to the front desk people and they didn’t say much, rather than the fact he was motherless and they were well aware of him. Nice spot, this Tyax Resort-- mountainous and unspoiled with numerous cabins, chalets and outbuildings. (must be busy in the summer!). They have a huge log structure with all the amenities including: hot tub, sauna, mountain bikes, canoes, a huge stable full of horses and a Beaver airplane that will take you up to Chilco lake for lunch, or to fly you over the Bridge glacier. The dinners and breakfasts (# of patrons permitting) are buffet style. We are the only campers? but we did venture over a couple of times to check the environs and to have a couple pints. We chose Taughton lake for its small, narrow size (canoeability) and for the towns of Bralorne-Goldbridge (Close by) that we wanted to explore for their remoteness and for the interesting Real Estate.

Taughton lake itself is in the transition zone (rainshadow) between coastal and interior, no cedar is evident, lots of fir, poplar, rose hips and berries including masses of wild cranberries that Tracy noticed immediately growing around the lake. Tracy, her mom and sisters would make these berries into jam or syrup when they lived up in Dawson Creek and she says she hasn’t seen these berries since then.

After leaving Taughton lake we drove up to Lac La Hache via Lillooet, spending a couple days with Tracy’s parents. We had intentions of going into Alexis for a couple of days to visit J&J Broomhall but soon thought (J&J) may like some quiet-time alone so we spent the next few days tucking back into the mountains, down the Duffy lake road back to the Birkenhead. No Battery life for camera's.. It sure cooled off. It was like someone flicking a switch. We endured some fresh snow, had tarps covering everything, had a big fire and some whiskey…

This year may have an early winter?

Tracy and I are getting back to some of our roots and activities that we used to enjoy and know best. It’s been a good summer and here are some thoughts for you.

(Eckhart Tolle), Vancouver author of the Power of Now and Stillness Speaks)

We have to take a moment to think how much time was spent this year listening to the sound of rustling poplar trees in the wind, or watched some wispy cloud wrap around a mountain peak. I am typical of the city dweller where the world seems so noise polluted and driven, that the idea of quietness and stillness can spook you for a while. Rather than a void, silence in the outer world helps to access the riches of our unconditioned mind. This allows us to enter a state of inner alertness and in that alertness, we stop looping through our past and we find our true selves. A place where thoughts, ego’s and attachments fall away and we are left with only what the moment has to offer. Take the canoe-- true in the moment, uninhibited, uncomplicated pleasure-- so enjoyable…Written by BJammin Broomhall 2006

A properly insulated basement can save you money on heating and provide a dry, comfortable living space. In most cases, a basement with insulation installed on its exterior walls should be considered a conditioned space. Even in a modular home with an unconditioned basement, the basement is more ...

"You will scale mountains and sail seas searching for a true teacher and seeking the Way of reality. When you sincerely seek a guide, spiritual benefactors and teachers of the Way descend from heaven and gush out of the earth. At the place where you contact them, they evoke expressions of sentient beings and insentient beings that you hear with the body and hear with the mind. If you listen with your ears, it is the household's everyday tea and meals. But when the eye hears sounds, it is the unconditioned. When you see Buddhas, you see Buddhas in your self and Buddhas in others, large Buddhas and small Buddhas. Don’t be surprised or frightened by large Buddhas, don’t feel put off by small Buddhas."

- Dogen

Every day her mind fills itself with blank thoughts, memories, images, and emotions. Some take a pictorial form; others are just a deep feeling she has. She feels a pain, but she can’t identify its source. Wishes, dreams, and mythologies – these are the illusions of her life: what she wants, what she can’t have, what she thinks she’s supposed to be. She fixates on the particulars, genuinely believing that her happiness can be attached to some tangible object or experience.

But the grass is always greener on the other side.

Soon enough, as her mind starts to wander off she begins to get out of herself and her alienated desires. She sees the cruelty of the world - it’s misgivings, its horrors and its realities. Anxiety penetrates her deep; it’s her against it all, all of it spinning and expanding and threatening to implode. She feels herself falling, spinning with it.

Down, down, down.

She is wrapped up and tangled; yet she struggles to be free. When she meets it with resistance, she feels a sudden spark. Not an explosion, not an answer, but a hint. It doesn’t have to be this way. Everything is in the realm of possibility.

Fluctuation. Fluidity. Floatation.

She begins to feel the barriers of time and space lifting. She’s taken back to her youth, back when she had it right, when she was in touch with what she really felt.

Unconditioned.

She sees the way it could be, the way it really is, the way it went wrong, and the way to get it back. She is the creator. She is god. She is truth. She’s meaning. She’s intuition and depth.

She knows this wisdom, like everything else, is fleeting. But she also knows that what she’s learned is in there somewhere, in a place she can draw from in times of need. How to hold onto it? Maybe a nice aphorism will do? How about this one:

“What I want is what I’ve not got, and what I need is all around me.”
