As you know, Fifth Wall’s portfolio event was last week in Venice. There were three panels held at their office, each covering a category Fifth Wall has made big bets on (the majority of panelists were from portfolio companies):

Future of Cities

Real Estate-as-a-Service

Fintech and The Built World Economy

I covered the Fintech and Built World Economy panel last week, today I wanted to share a few thoughts from the Future of Cities panel. Smart cities and the future of cities are topics extremely fascinating to me, and one I spend a lot of time thinking about. Without further ado, the context:

Examining the future of housing, energy, mobility, social services and shared public spaces through the lens of those engineering it.

In other words, topics such as an aging and shrinking population, Amazon-ization, autonomous cars, drones, and flying cars.

Moderated by Steve Levine at Axios.

Panelists:

Johanna Greenbaum, Director of Planning and Development at Sidewalk Labs

Toby Sun, Co-founder and CEO of LimeBike

Ben Marcus, Co-founder and Chairman of Airmap

Sari Ladin-Sienne, City of Los Angeles

Claire Woo, Co-founder of Blueprint Power

Claire talked about a smart city being sustainable, resource conscious, and placing an emphasis on accessibility (meaning the participation of all socioeconomic backgrounds). Blueprint Power‘s mission is compelling: “accelerate the transformation of buildings into intelligent power nodes, allowing them to participate in transactive energy marketplaces.” She believes buildings will become power plants; owners will be able to sell power to their neighbors as part of a much, much larger transformation of the electric grid. While we’re on the topic of power and sharing, I’m reminded of Yeloha, a company on the residential side of the industry I wrote about a few years ago. I have to admit I had never thought about the prospect of buildings as small power plants, but conceptually it makes complete sense.

Ben believes cities will become airports, saying in 50 years we’ll all be going to to work in flying cars. I don’t disagree with that, or with his point that de-urbanizing cities presents a huge opportunity (I’ll say ginormous) . Within 5 years: people will benefit from drones in their daily lives (for deliveries likely). Governments are moving from a role providing services to that of enabling private enterprises to provide those services. We need to re-think governance; we simply can’t continue as we have previously with pace of technology. Airmap will end up helping in that effort by connecting airspace authorities with the drone ecosystem to unlock safe, efficient, and scalable drone operations.

Toby Sun from Limebike referenced the three core aspects of smart cities from his perspective:

Smart devices: infrastructure in place

Smart censors: not just for individuals, but objects

Data: allowing everyone to make better decisions

In the next 5 years, we’ll see progress toward smarter cities (every block will have block level transit options/accessibility), but not a truly transformational change. In 50 years, he believes cities will be much more eco-friendly — while I agree with that change/shift, I unfortunately think a catastrophe of some sort will be needed to drive urgency.

Sari Ladin spoke about Los Angeles being a postmodern city comprised of many “mini cities.” Smart cities are more responsive, proactive, and inclusive (include network & connectivity in most vulnerable communities). Los Angeles has used data to make better decisions. One example was in the sanitation department where they reduced dirty streets by 80% (300 miles originally, now less than 100 miles). In 5 years, she sees a multi modal system way more effective than today. In 50 years, procurement will be solved, and regulations will provide significantly more flexibility. Sari mentioned the “Great Streets” initiative (see here), which I find very forward thinking. I happen to believe brokerages should be collaborating with their cities on similar initiatives, a topic I’ll likely cover in the Geek Estate member newsletter in the future.

Johanna from Sidewalk Labs is working on the Toronto smart city initiative (which was covered previously on Geek Estate). She’s right, there has been a change in behavior and people are giving up cars (in markets like Seattle where I live). I’m proof of that, as I haven’t owned a car since 2012 (though I’m looking at buying a car soon). That said, a shift/sea change takes time to occur. Johanna was asked, “are there flying cars in Toronto Plan?” While we didn’t get a precise answer, she mentioned buildings last a long time, and the most important thing is to maintain flexibility (so as to support flying cars when/if they do become the norm). Sometimes, over engineering can add long term value to real estate assets. My personal hunch is this will be one of those scenarios.

The panel ended by talking about whether there is a fundamental tension between efficiency/technology and human desire (and need) for human interaction and connection. Demograhically, this generation is interested in being closer together. Johanna said that technology in smart cities shouldn’t mean being more connected to our devices. Since I believe screen addiction is one of society’s greatest challenges and risks, one of the most fascinating tidbits from the whole panel for me was learning that a “Minister of Loneliness” was appointed in the UK (New York Times article). That validates loneliness and screen addiction as a huge, huge problem. How can we balance efficiency with social interaction? That’s a multi billion dollar question.

Cities are changing and morphing, slowly, but surely. Are they truly “smart” now? No. Are they getting “smarter” by the month? Yes.

Vogue 9029

Hi everyone! I have just finished making the most difficult shirt I’ve ever attempted and it took all the experience and tips working with silk I’ve gained from eleven years of sewing! It wasn’t the pattern that was difficult but the fabric.

Last season I fell in love with a georgette polka dot shirt by Saint Laurent but at ÂŖ1,020 I needed to make one (it also sold out very quickly). Problem number one was sourcing fabric, I looked everywhere but there was none available, I eventually gave up and concentrated on Christmas.

Saint Laurent, Matches Fashion

Saint Laurent repeated it for spring/summer 2018 and I finally gave in and ordered some chiffon from Cosy Fabric out of China on Etsy. I wouldn’t normally order from China but this seller had good reviews so I went ahead. The quality is acceptable, not as good as Italian silk but at ÂŖ15.36 per metre it’s good value. I came across Vogue 9029 whilst looking for a suitable pattern and it was perfect, I chose view D with the sleeves from view B. I made my usual petite adjustments and shortened the sleeves by 3 inches.

I used silk GÃŧtermann thread, a Schmetz microtex needle and a straight stitch needle plate to stop the fabric from being pulled into the feed dogs.

I started by taping the fabric to the cutting board using the markings as a guide to square everything, the polka dots helped with lining up the pattern pieces. I cut some pieces on a single layer of fabric too.

I used French Seams for all the seams including setting in the sleeves which was surprisingly easy as there isn’t too much ease in the sleeve head on this pattern. It did take a lot of pinning though.

After sewing 6mm seams, wrong sides together I carefully pressed them open before folding back right sides together pressing, then sewing a 9mm seam. I used the edge of my machine foot as a guide for the 9mm instead of 1cm. I also used tissue paper on all the seams which gave me great stitches without any puckering then it just tore off easily afterwards. I didn’t do any back stitches either on any of the seams but I started stitching on the tissue before the fabric and this stopped any unravelling.

Press open the 6mm seam

Fold right sides together and press

Sew a 9-10mm seam enclosing the raw edges

Finished seam.

Another way to do a french seam is to sew a 1cm seam wrong sides together, trim to 3mm, fold right sides together then encase the raw edges with a 5-6mm seam. This produces a very narrow finish but I find it’s not as hard wearing.

I used a lot of pins when setting in the sleeves and sewed very slowly easing in the excess fabric where needed.

I struggled with the edge finish on the ruffle as I didn’t like the result of the narrow hem, it was just too bulky and difficult to get an even finish. I tried to use my rolled hem foot but it didn’t like the bias parts of the ruffle. In the end after a lot of experiment, I used the rolled hem stitch on my overlocker/serger. The ruffle on the cuff behaved a lot better so I managed a narrow hem there.

On the shoulder seams I used silk organza selvedge to stabilise.

The collar and collar stand pieces were to be cut on the fold so I made my own complete pieces using swedish tracing paper. I used silk organza as interfacing to keep everything sheer.

I had to do a lot of basting on this project but it was worth it.

Front band

I am very pleased with the result, there are a few things that aren’t perfect but I’m fussy. Taking a look at RTW garments is gratifying as they’re usually not perfect either! Last week I saw an uneven narrow hem on a Fendi organza skirt in their shop window!

I won’t get to wear this shirt until June as it’s too hot in Singapore, maybe not even then if we get some good weather in the UK! We can only hope.

I’m off to finish my next project now, au revoir x.

Jiah Khan’s mother Rabiya Khan appeals to PM Narendra Modi in an open letter seeking justice

Actress Jiah Khan, who starred in Nishabd and Ghajini, committed suicide on June 3, 2013. The actress’ then-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested for abetting her suicide on June 10, 2013. On July 2, the same year, the High Court had granted him bail. The case was then transferred to the CBI by the HC in July 2014 on Rabiya Khan’s petition that claimed that the police was not probing it properly.

The CBI, then, had filed a charge sheet in the case and booked Sooraj Pancholi on abetment charges. Jiah Khan’s mother Rabiya Khan, once again, filed a petition in the court seeking a Special Investigation Team to be set up to probe the case afresh.

On August 31, 2017, the Mumbai High Court clarified that a lower court can proceed with the trial against Sooraj Pancholi in regards to his former girlfriend Jiah Khan’s suicide case.

After years of struggle to seek justice for her late daughter Jiah Khan, Rabiya Khan has now appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an open letter to seek justice for the alleged homicide of her daughter. In an open letter addressed to PM Modi, Rabiya Khan has stated that most of the forensic evidence that they have found in her daughter’s case points towards homicide and not suicide.

Read the entire letter here:

“My Open letter to Indian PM hon Narendra Modi and British authorities on the platform where every citizen has a right to approach with their quest and grievances, therefore here is my cry to you honourable, sir/Madame,

I am a British citizen the mother of Jiah Khan, who was murdered in India Mumbai on 3 June 2013. It has been four years now that I had been persistently fighting for justice.

All the forensic evidence that I have obtained from experts in India and England is pointing towards homicide. Analysis of the forensic experts shows that the injuries on my daughter’s body are inconsistent with the alleged suicidal hanging and all forensic evidence strongly suggest that she was murdered and then hanged to make it look like a suicide.

The Hon’ble Bombay High Court, in July 2014, transferred the investigation to the CBI with a clear mandate to find out whether my daughter’s death was homicidal or suicidal, and if it was found to be homicidal, to launch a further investigation and take appropriate action.

For some reason, CBI was reluctant to take over the case from the beginning, and in fifteen months of delay in their findings, the CBI investigation got compromised. It would be an insult to the capabilities of the CBI to say that CBI just failed to conduct a proper investigation. There is no doubt CBI has all the powers and skills required to get to the bottom of my daughter’s death. But somehow, the CBI investigation went off track, for reasons best known to them. Instead, CBI’s own independent forensic expert opinion is inconclusive and does not rule out either homicide or suicide. The CBI simply recycled the already compromised information provided by the Juhu police, and the worst is, in their own report they deliberately distorted certain information.

Anyone looking at the actual facts, in this case, realises that the case has been heavily “managed”. It is not my task to speculate about the police’s and the CBI’s motivation, but a connection and the influence of the Accused’s father Aditya Pancholi would not be too far-fetched.

The forensic expert Jason Payne-James in his report clearly states that this appears to be a staged homicide. So I approached the Hon’ble High Court earlier this year with all the relevant grievances and expert reports requesting reinvestigation by a SIT. CBI opposed, but the Hon’ble High Court noted in its order that all the points raised in my petition can be submitted to the trial court.

I submitted my application to the trial court through State-appointed Special Public Prosecutor Dinesh Tiwari who knows the history of this case from the beginning. Following this submission, CBI has been trying to remove SPP Tiwari and to replace him with one of its own prosecutors who has no knowledge about the case and has been displaying a hostile attitude towards me.

Recently, when my application to submit key evidence and forensic expert reports was argued in the trial court, the CBI, along with the Accused, strongly opposed their recognition by the court. Now the main point is that if the CBI, who has joined hands with the Accused, is not with the victim and not willing to cooperate with me, then how is justice going to be served.

I am attaching the forensic report by forensic expert Jason Payne-James and a report by Professor Deborah Bonneveld to highlight what CBI ignored to investigate and denied justice to the victim’s family. I fail to write in words my pain and grief. I expect answers to my daughter’s death. May God guide you and help us to get justice. Please let me know what are your plans and advice for the victim’s mother and family. I am knocking at every door where each persons voice matters. God has placed you on high position to help us against injustice. As a parent you will understand my pain.

Kind regards, Rabiya Khan”

SHOCKING: Chairperson of Women’s Commission claims Kangna Ranaut never approached them; Rangoli Chandel has another tale to tell

They say let the bygones be bygones. But, it isn’t the case with Kangna Ranaut who has been grabbing the headlines for her explosive statements on Rajat Sharma’s famous show, Aap Ki Adalat. From her affair to her leaked emails to the legal battle, Kangna Ranaut opened up about the whole fiasco with Hrithik Roshan in detail and demanded an apology from him for causing her emotional trauma.

In relation to that, Kangna Ranaut had also revealed that she had approached the women’s commission regarding it who decided to help her in the case at first but later backed out. She revealed, “He (Hrithik Roshan) made it public in a notice that if I didn’t apologize then he would release pictures and videos he had. So my sister Rangoli called the women’s commission. Gurmeet Chaddha, who is the head of the Mumbai office, got very excited at first, saying it’s a high profile case, we’ll tell Rakeshji (Rakesh Roshan) that he can’t threaten someone like this. After 2 days, we get a call from Rakeshji’s office saying that they’re good friends and that the matter is going out of hand. What sellouts these people are. I’ve hated the women’s commission since that day, these people are completely fake.”

After the explosive interview, it’s the Chairperson of Maharashtra Women’s Commission Vijaya Rahatkar, who has come forward to share their side of the story and has slammed Kangna through a series of tweets. Vijaya Rahatkar said that Kangna had never approached them and Gurmeet Chaddha wasn’t related to the women’s commission.

Makers of Padmavati finalize the teaser release date and here it is!

With the latest first look of Deepika Padukone from the film Padmavati creating waves all over, B-town fans can gear up for yet another set of good news about the film. The makers have finalized the teaser release date of the film and the fans can get a sneak peek into the film by the end of Navratri.

Interestingly, the first look of Padmavati was unveiled on the first day of Navratri. Now, on the tenth day of the festivity, that is Dussehra, the makers will release the teaser of the film. The reason behind the same is that Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to release the crucial glimpses of his magnum opus during the auspicious occasion. In fact, during the celebrations that will continue for another week, the audience can also expect to see the first looks of Shahid Kapoor who plays Raja Rawal Ratan Singh as well as the antagonist Ranveer Singh, who essays the role of Alauddin Khilji in the film.

Furthermore, talking about the first look of Deepika Padukone, it is being said that the director-producer was quite firm on maintaining the fact that he wanted to release the poster on the day of Devi Stapna [first day of Navratri] because of its relevance. The role essayed by Deepika in the film which is that of Queen Padmini is considered to be an example of a strong persona and is offered referred to as the Goddess Rani owing to her valour. Hence he thought this would be an apt occasion for the same.

Padmavati has been in news ever since its inception owing to the furore it created as it not only brought back the Bajirao Mastani couple in a completely different avatar but also because Deepika Padukone is paired opposite Shahid Kapoor for the first time. The film, despite its various setbacks, will finally release this year. Though the release date has been pushed further by a month, the film is all set to release on December 1.

Hoover is one of the best manufacturers when it comes to the vacuum cleaners. The Hoover UH20040 shares the same passion we were able to see in more expensive ‘’cousins’’. It is useful, efficient and practical, but the price is more than just affordable. Consumers are dishing positive reviews about it and we at VacuumPal too give high ratings for the Hoover UH20040. Look below to find out why it deserves all that unanimous praise.

Multi-Cyclonic Technology

This technology isn’t the latest but it is one of those that you definitely want to have. It works on a simple principle, by filtrating the air and capturing the tiny particles. They are completely trapped before they reach filter, therefore maintenance is simpler, cheap and easier as well. The best part is that this system actually works and it is effective even when the surface is covered with dust and hair. Experts claim that with the help of the Multi-Cyclonic Technology filter, it will stay clean for a longer period of time and it will also keep the already trapped particles.

Lightweight and compact

Unboxing the Hoover UH20040

Removable cleaning wand

This vacuum cleaner is more than just simple. It has a removable wand that can be simply detached in seconds and used for cleaning above the floor surfaces. It will reach up to 7 feet, making it more useful than some, equivalent models on the market. The handle itself is strong, durable and modern (if you are looking for a good-looking vacuum cleaner). The attachments are specifically designed for this wand. They are not borrowed from bigger models, which is a common thing nowadays. It means that they fit perfectly and they are firmly attached. Interchangeable attachments are included in the package and all of them are made from high-quality plastics.

Brushroll height adjustment

Don’t expect some extremely powerful suction. It isn’t the professional nor high-end vacuum cleaner, but you will get solid suction power on all surfaces. Switching between the carpet and hard floor cleaning is plain simple. You will have to set the desired brushroll height on the switch on the cleaner head and you are done. There are three different settings to choose from. After some time, you will determine which one is perfect for the carpets in your home. Note: Different carpets require different settings.

Reusable air filter

With most vacuum cleaners, air filters are not reusable. They can be used just once, and after that, they must be replaced. This increases the maintenance costs and it is simply annoying. The Hoover UH20040 isn’t one of those models. It comes with the air filter that can be washed and reused over and over again. The lifespan is longer than 2 years, but it will depend on how often you use the vacuum cleaner. You also get the system check indicator. It is a simple feature that tells you when you should perform the maintenance. For busy people, this may be the number one feature. Important: Always wash the filter in hot water. This will remove all the dust and debris, even those that are in solid state.

Long power cord

The power cord is 23 feet long. This means that you do not need to worry about the length of wire during vacuuming. No additional cables nor the need to search for the nearest power sources. All you need is one socket and you are ready to do the entire house. The power cord itself is the standard version, but it comes with the heavy-duty ends, so it is resistant and it can be used for a longer period of time.

Pros:

Compact size.

Modern and interesting design.

The filter can be washed and reused.

HEPA system.

Long power cord.

Multi-Cyclonic Technology.

Great value for money.

It is lightweight and has ideal dimensions for storing when space is an issue.

Brushroll is easy to adjust.

Long wand.

Cons:

Cord storage isn’t well sorted.

Hose attachment is complicated.

Can’t match professional vacuum cleaner’s suction power.

The bottom line

All you have to know about this vacuum cleaner is explained in this Hoover UH20040 review. The vacuum cleaner is affordable yet not sacrificing quality. Besides, it is also powerful enough for most applications. Compact size and attachments can be even compared to more expensive models and there won’t be significant differences. The bottom line is that you will be a proud owner of a small, useful and durable vacuum cleaner that really has a lot to offer and it is even preferable compared to some more expensive models. Add the fact it is cheap to maintain and you may have the best unit for your cleaning purposes.

Presently there are plenty of really good commercial and residential roof restoration companies in Antioch. These contractors focus on roof repair , replacement gutters, vinyl siding repair, rows, ice dam removal, infrared moisture detection, maintenance, ice dam prevention and so forth. Whenever you get predicaments or have the drive to remodel the appeal of your home, you should meet with a repair business.

There are many competent roofing contractors out there and they can handle large and small projects. They service businesses and all kinds of residences such as townhouses, apartments, condos, and private homes. They can fix any type of roofing such as shingles, flat roofs, tile, and metal. Many roofing companies offer free consultations and estimates, so you should definitely take advantage of that. Meet with a few roofing specialists. Get answers to your questions and compare estimates until you find the best person for the job. Some roof repair companies offer same day repair services, so keep that in mind if you are shopping around. A roof is the most important part of a home or building, so you should get the problem fixed immediately. A poorly installed or damaged roof can cause excessive damage to a building, so find a contractor who can repair your roof quickly.

How to Install Metal Roofs in Antioch?

Roof repairs are definitely specialized projects. Sometimes they be done by the handyman and homeowner. But qualified tradesmen will repair your roof quickly and thoroughly, so weigh this up if you are attempting the project yourself. Roofs protect you and the contents of your house from the weather, so repairs are vital. If you’re employing someone else to repair your roof for you, only use a licensed roofer that you can trust, and use them again if needed. Licensed roof contractors will mostly offer a guarantee, so look at this as a benefit and take it up because it does ensure that the repair job was done correctly.Roof DegenerationRoofs can degenerate quickly as the result of a storm, or over time due to general age related factors. Neglected roofs are most prone to bad storm damage.I view a lot of roofs and often see leaks that have come from mostly neglect, especially from rusted gutters which are full of leaves and have disconnected from the down-pipes and water going everywhere but where it should. This consequently breeds other problems which encroach on neighbours creating a domino effect. Its not uncommon to be treating one problem for two different households especially in close inner city communities. Its handy to be on a friendly basis with them! So, clean out gutters yourself or get in a roofer for a small price. While you’re at it, cut those overhanging branches. If roof problems still exist, be suspicious that the fall of the gutter is incorrect. Practicality and general knowledge of the laws of gravity are vital here! Some Types of Roof ProblemsAsbestos-cement is really an issue if it’s damaged so due vigilance is a must. For example do not remove any screws without safety wear and it’s probably best left to the roofer. Yet these roofs can be repaired quite successfully, which can be a relief if you are concerned about it. Skylights are a bit of a bother when they leak, which they do when left too long without maintenance and periodic applications of sealant. Our roofing company deals with these often and our best tip here is to use a good tradesman in the first place to install the skylight and ask them for advice on keeping them in the best condition. They too will eventually need replacing, but you will know when if you are on top of the repair. Broken tiles can be the result of stepping where you shouldn’t, and metal roofs can be dented if you don’t follow the screw line so my tip is if you want to fix it yourself, educate yourself on the structure of the roof by getting on the net or reading about the anatomy of the roof structure. Ridge capping covers the two faces of meeting tiles, and if this is loose it needs to be what is called “re-bedded and re-pointed”, again something to be conversant with if you have one of the most popular tiled roofs in Australia. This type of damage to tiled roofs can be hard to spot, but leaks will become apparent with a little bit of neglect. Tile, metal and slate are the most common types of roofing in Sydney, each with their own specific handlings. Metal roofs for new homes have become more in-vogue, due to their ease of maintenance and sleek looks. But they are not immune to repair and will have their own degree or wear and tear.Roof damage is inevitable as a roof is the most exposed part of a house and susceptible to some mighty elements that can come unexpectedly. So ideally build roof repairs into your budget with the rest of the house or even just have a plan worked out in case your roof is suddenly in need of repair.

The issue, Possibility of Perfect Research, brings up some significant issues on a research yield or research process. What is research? What is the total premise of research? Why research is started? How research is directed? How research is assessed? What is flawlessness? Is flawlessness during research process reasonable? What is viable research the executives? What is research paper? We will try to address the previously mentioned inquiries.

Oxford Dictionary characterizes research as, a cautious investigation of a subject, particularly so as to find new actualities or data about it. A research is either synopsis of data or assessment of some effectively found data. Truly, research includes “looking once more” the subject what others have composed on it. A research is mix of data, assessment, and development. Initially, it gives data on a specific subject or matter, also, assesses the previous research or audits significant writing, lastly, the new work includes some creative angles, both pragmatic just as applied.

Man is mix of three essential substances, i.e., body, brain, and soul. Human exercises are molded by physical needs, mental impulses, and soul desires. At physical level, a significant physical need is recreation or unwinding. At mental level, a significant mental impulse is interest. Once more, at otherworldly level, a significant soul desire is flawlessness. The different reasons of research are physical interest for more recreation, scholarly push because of instinctual interest, stickler yearning of soul because of imbued inclination of soul towards flawlessness. The very establishment of human life systems is subsequently extreme premise of research, with the goal that research will proceed until the end of time. There isn’t probability of ideal research in any order.

Life has two levels, individual and group. Aggregate life is authoritative plan of pioneers and devotees. Establishments are inescapable part of aggregate life. A foundation works under the stewardship of pioneers. Pioneers start different projects to keep up their power over adherents or to keep up going great of organizations. A devotee may alter her perspective towards initiative by virtue of static, poor, and degenerate administration. The answer for formal or non-performing institutional arrangement is presentation of developments, both reasonable just as pragmatic. Thus, developments are acquainted from time with time. The very establishment of development is inception of new and new research. So as to keep up the texture of aggregate life, pioneers (social or monetary or political) starts research now and again. At scholarly level, the led research is inclined towards flawlessness however for all intents and purposes it accomplishes just a reasonable yield because of different requirements, monetary and non-money related, forced by pioneers.

A research is led by savvy people. Intelligent people/Scientists are imaginative gathering of a general public. They get thoughts from numerous life occasions, every so often. The gathering of thought is exceptional psycho-social quality of educated people/researchers. A thought resembles a seed of a plant. They think-reevaluate on it and survey the practicality of thought. Finally, they are sure towards profitability of their thought. They independent/mastermind assets for thought acknowledgment. Sharing of thought with business visionary (social or monetary or political) is a significant advance for asset course of action. A thought acknowledgment movement is self-flawlessness of scholarly/researcher. It is significant that proactive methodology of a business person or society towards new thoughts is essential for the emergence of scholarly innovativeness.

A car against the tide. This is what Austrian born Markus Fux, 36, CEO of MILAN Automotive GmbH is doing: bringing to the road the cutting edge know-how of Austrian companies – uncompromising in design and specifications – in what will be the new generation of hyper cars: the MILAN RED. Named after the famous bird of prey, the MILAN RED is designed by a team of extraordinary specialists aiming to combine again the skills of speed record, design object and an ultra-intense driving experience.

Limited to only 99 pieces the MILAN RED will be the first of its kind crafted by MILAN Automotive GmbH and comes with a breathtaking list of characteristics:

1325 horsepower meets 1300 kilogram dead weight propelling the MILAN RED from naught to hundred in only 2.47 seconds to race way beyond 400km/h.

This power explosion is the result of the 6.2 litre V8 Quad Turbo rear drive operating entirely without electric support and crafted by AVL, supplier of global automotive companies and Formula One racing.

The bloodline of MILAN RED reads like the who is who of Austria’s leading companies in the automotive sector:

Alongside Styria based AVL it is the simulation technology of AVL List – as well a close development partner of Formula One racing – and PANKL Racing Systems contributing with exclusive SLM wheel carriers.

At this point one of the highlights of the MILAN RED can be revealed: for the first time in the history of street legal cars the wishbones of the MILAN RED will be manufactured wholly from carbon. This sensation is produced by PEAK Technology from Upper Austria.

Another special add-on in context with the stunning interior design is the visualisation of the driver’s heartbeat.

No compromise in every aspect of the MILAN RED, has and will always have, the highest priority. The spectacular opportunity to own one of these rare superlative cars close to the 2 million Euro regions has already inspired 18 car enthusiasts to add the MILAN RED to their portfolio.

The thought of riding in a vehicle controlled by driverless car technology is still a scary proposition, even for the generation of drivers born between 1981 and 1996.

Known as Millennials, this group has historically been accepting of driverless technology, but researchers from AAA say 64 percent of Millennials are now afraid of fully autonomous cars. Compare that to the 49 percent who were afraid in 2017 and it provides an idea of how attitudes toward the technology can quickly transform.

Safety researchers say that among all age groups, nearly 75 percent have no faith or trust in driverless cars that perform all aspects of driving, which is an increase of about 10 percent since 2017.

Consumer do seem to be in favor of certain autonomous features as long as they assist drivers, not take full control from drivers. Features such as blind spot monitoring, lane departure and forward collision warning systems have gained favor with consumers and researchers alike.

But it's the idea of a computer taking full control of a car that frightens consumers.

Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), AAA, Gartner, J.D. Power, Kelley Blue Book and university researchers show declines in public trust of the technology, with one study from MIT revealing only 13 percent of consumers would feel safe in fully autonomous vehicles.

It appears men are more trusting of the technology as 70 percent said they wouldn't feel safe on roads where self-driving cars were operating. When the same question was posed to women, a whopping 83 percent said they wouldn't feel safe.

Various researchers have also determined consumers are easily confused by the different names automakers use for their autonomous technology. Although a forward collision warning system typically works the same way, every automaker uses a different name for their technology.

Based on the latest data, AAA says it's highly likely media reports of crashes involving cars with autonomous technology haven't exactly pushed consumers toward fully driverless cars.

In particular, well-publicized deaths involving semi-autonomous technology in Tesla and Uber vehicles seem to have punched consumers in their stomachs when it comes to trust in driverless technology.
