Fortunately, it’s easier than you might think to protect your home. Follow these simple steps to help prevent your water pipes and meter from freezing this winter, saving you time, money, and hassle.
Before Winter
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses
Detaching the hose allows water to drain from the pipe instead of leaving it to freeze. Shut off the water supply to outside spigots if they have a separate shutoff valve. It only takes a single, hard, overnight freeze to burst either the spigot or the pipe connected to it.
Insulate water pipes in unheated areas
If you have pipes in an unheated area, like a garage or a crawl space, wrap the pipes with an insulating material, such as a foam tube, or heat tape. Hardware or building supply stores will have wrapping materials available. Make sure to not leave any gaps without insulation.
Seal gaps and cracks in doors and windows
Winter winds whistling through overlooked openings can quickly freeze exposed water pipes. Seal places where cold air gets in with caulking or spray foam. Be careful not to plug air vents that appliances need to function properly.
Find your main shut-off valve and label it

What many however don’t remember is today also marks the sixteenth anniversary of another cult film, Dil Chahta Hai. It marked the directorial debut of Farhan Akhtar and it changed the tide for Hindi cinema. It paved the way for urban, slice-of-life films and characters that were straight out of life. The film starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia and Sonali Kulkarni in leading roles and they all were loved for their portrayal.
On this special occasion, Farhan Akhtar posted a lovely tweet that has been lapped up by Dil Chahta Hai fans. He wrote, “#DilChahtaHai turns a sweet 16 today. Thankful for the love you continue to show it. Ya toh aapka lagav gehra hai, ya film 3D thi..big hug.” For those who couldn’t understand the last sentence, it was a modified version of a famous Dil Chahta Hai dialogue, that is, “Ya toh yeh dosti gehri hai ya yeh photo 3D hai.” It was mouthed by Sameer (played by Saif Ali Khan) when he’s nervously showing the picture of him, Akash (Aamir Khan) and Sid (Akshaye Khanna) to Pooja (Sonali Kulkarni), a girl he likes. The dialogue was loved and became iconic. It was witty of Farhan Akhtar to tweet in reference to this dialogue and leave a mark.
On the film front, Farhan Akhtar is gearing up for the release of his film Lucknow Central, co-starring Diana Penty, Ravi Kishan, Gippy Grewal and Ronit Roy. It is directed by newbie Ranjit Tiwari and releases on September 15.

With one week left until the release of Gesaffelstein’s new album HYPERION, he has dropped one final single, “Blast Off” featuring Pharrell Williams.
“Blast Off” follows previously released tracks “Lost in the Fire” featuring The Weeknd and “Reset,” both of which were met with middling enthusiasm. The same will likely be said of the newest single, which features an almost tribal, hypnotic beat accompanied by ’80s synths and an unimpressive vocal performance from Pharrell.
We’ve heard Pharrell be a phenomenal vocalist, especially on “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk, but his talents seem wasted on this repetitive and uninspiring single. There’s a chance my opinion could change when I hear the whole album in its entirety and see how each track fits into each other, but as a single, this is wholly forgettable.
The rollout of Gesaffelstein’s new album has been somewhat lackluster. After news broke that he had signed with Columbia Records, home now of Swedish House Mafia and Daft Punk, fans were (rightly) concerned that he would be going a more pop route. As it stands, their fears have been substantiated.

The recent arrest of self-proclaimed godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan was followed by an outrage especially in Punjab where the Dera Sacha Sauda Chief’s followers resorted to violence on the streets claiming the lives of some and leaving many injured. On the other hand, the team of the film Raazi is in the state, wrapping up a major shoot schedule in Patiala. Now, the shoot of the film has come to a halt owing to the massive uproar in the location.
According to recent reports, on Friday, when the film’s unit was shooting an important sequence with the film’s protagonist Alia Bhatt and her on screen husband Vicky Kaushal, the news of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s arrest and the consequence that followed spread like wild fire across the state. While the director of the film Meghna Gulzar immediately announced the pack up to ensure her team’s safety, now we hear that the entire cast and crew are stranded in Patiala owing to the sensitive situation.
Furthermore, it has been learnt that the team is yet to complete the schedule which also requires the stars moving around the city. Now with the current situation turning volatile and after the high alert being declared in the state, the crew members’ safety is at stake, so the team is currently lying low at the hotel. The situation has worsened with the mobile and communication network being stopped.
The unit of the film Raazi have decided to halt the shoot of the film until August 28 when the hearing on the case has been scheduled. There are chances of the situation being worsened especially if Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is sentenced in the case.
As for the schedule of the film, this major schedule in Punjab was said to be finished by September 10, after which the unit was said to shift to Chandigarh. As of now, there are no further details on the changes due to the delay.
Raazi, produced by Karan Johar, is based on the adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel ‘Calling Sehmat’ which talks about a Kashmiri spy married to a Pakistani soldier.
