Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu get possession of their Pali Hill property after 10 years
Good luck seems to be showering upon Dilip Kumar and family. After Dilip Kumar was discharged successfully from the hospital last week, the thespian has retrieved possession of the disputed Pali Hill property, which was under the possession of real estate firm Prajita Developers Pvt Ltd. On Tuesday September 12, the keys to the property were handed over to Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu. The former actress posed with the keys in front of the media. A picture of hers with the keys and a notice board that proudly proclaimed that the property belonged to Dilip Kumar, kept behind her, was tweeted from the official account of Dilip saab. The tweets read, “Message from Saira Banu – ‘Sahab and I took possession of the property which has been his residence for decades. Hon’ble Supreme Court restored the possession to us. Sahab is overjoyed. Sharing some photos. Thank you friends n fans innumerable who have prayed for us”.
Some reports suggested that Dilip Kumar was asked to deposit a registration amount of Rs 20 crore with the real estate firm, which was appointed to develop the property.
The dispute went to the court court almost a decade ago after Prajita Developers Pvt Ltd did not proceed with the agreed plan and left the plot empty, without any construction, as per the reports. Dilip Kumar’s property in Bandra’s Pali Hill is sprawled across 2412 square yards. In August this year, the Supreme Court asked Dilip Kumar to hand over the amount within four weeks and they also asked him to intimate the firm, which then was supposed to let the thespian acquire possession of the property within a week. The amount was duly deposited by the actor and the handover then took place as per the plan.

Most artists’ work have certain frame-like quality to them. There’s the background, and then there’s the subject matter in the foreground, each one receiving a treatment that matches the artist’s style. However, French artist Edgar Degas is an exception to this. With friends like Mary Cassatt and Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas is considered one of the founders of Impressionism but like most artists, he rejected labels. To understand more about him, take a look at his painting, “The Bellelli Family”, based on his aunt Laura and her family.
At first glance, this appears to be just a regular family portrait. But you’re also getting the feeling that something is off in this picture. Look a little closely and you’ll see why. This isn’t exactly your average happy family. The father seems like he was interrupted in the middle of work, and his position indicates that he can’t wait to get back to it. The mother is in mourning, and her expression and stance give the impression that all is not well between husband and wife. The children’s positions are poles apart, with one sitting rather playfully and the other looking uptight and sullen.
There are many other details too – in fact, there is an entire story in this painting! And that is the hallmark of Degas’ work – his attention to detail. His paintings often capture a particular angle of a scene, and the lines between background and subject are blurred. He was also a fan of capturing subjects in motion, which probably explains why so much of his work is based on dancers. Degas painted a lot of contemporary life, like people sitting in a cafe, a woman combing her hair or a laundress ironing clothes.

The first thing a passerby might notice about the 602 Flats building, recently completed at the corner of 12th Ave East & East Mercer on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, is one of two forty-foot tall green walls or the solar panel rain screen system. These systems are an uncommon feature for an apartment building, especially in Seattle’s booming market of generic apartment mega-blocks.
These wall systems are expressive of the resourcefulness and innovation required to design, permit, develop, and construct a small, multi-family building in Seattle these days. Rising construction costs and a scarcity of tradespeople in the Pacific Northwest required that the architecture team from BUILD LLC implement a laser-focused design strategy that limited the variables. An overwhelmed building department also posed challenges with constantly moving goalposts, necessitating that the owners and design team exercise creative problem solving and a high tolerance for protracted schedule (aka, pain). Last but not least, soaring land values in Seattle coupled with high entry costs for any project, particularly for small projects, require an owner who is committed to their project and their property for the long haul (like their lifetimes). The time and financial investment of an intricate project like the 602 Flats does not lend well to maximizing value in only the short term. Rather, the owners of the 602 Flats are longtime Seattleites committed to fostering neighborhoods and building community.
The owners were so committed to creating lasting value in the neighborhood, in fact, that they took on the green walls and solar panel walls as personal projects; they were conceived, designed, installed and tested by the clients. Each green wall has an innovative drip irrigation system to regulate water requirements for the carefully selected plants throughout the seasons. The solar panel rainscreen reduces the energy needs of the building while helping to achieve the 4-Star Built Green status of the project.
Composite aluminum rain screen panels create a crisp, machined envelope to the building. These panels were specified to match the finish of the windows; the color and texture of the panels offer a neutral backdrop for the green wall and solar panels to visually pop as design highlights. Aluminum windows (another upgrade that requires longer-term commitment) are used for their durability, slender profile, and refined finish.
Inside, the project continues the clean lines within sensible, modern spaces. There’s no sales theme designed in here – just light-filled spaces, sensibly configured for modern living. Common areas are designed around views of the city and neighborhood, while bedrooms are positioned for optimal natural light and fresh air. Gray-stained Abodian cabinets, Pental Quartz countertops, and stainless-steel backsplashes create a timeless material palette.
Building systems are composed of energy-efficient, but user-friendly, Built Green 4-Star compliant selections. In-floor radiant heat, although an upgrade over traditional apartment heating systems, was selected for its long-term effectiveness, and immediate enjoyment of the apartment dwellers. Electrical and lighting systems were intentionally laid out during early design and fine-tuned during install. Durable and proven appliances and fixtures were selected to keep maintenance (and tenant inconvenience) minimal.
602 Flats consists of two-bedroom units, with the exception of the one-bedroom 4th-floor unit that concedes a bedroom to comply with Seattle upper level setback, but gains a generous terrace with views of the city, Sound, and mountains. As with many aspects of the project, this design move transforms a constraint into a . Care and attention to detail set this building apart and, not surprisingly, the flats were rented out before the project was even completed.
The design team at BUILD LLC would contend that small, dynamic, multi-family buildings like the 602 Flats are a vital part of the urban fabric. They may only play a minor role in the livability and affordability of the city on their own, but en masse, they provide thoughtful density within neighborhoods (replacing dilapidated single-family homes) while maintaining granularity and character. They allow property owners to develop small parcels of underutilized land and give renters a greater diversity of apartment options. These buildings fit in with the proportions of surrounding older buildings and lower-scale neighborhoods. In a contentious city going through as much change as Seattle, we noticed there was curiosity, but no strong or negative reactions to this project. We can only infer that the scale and care make a smaller-sized project like the 602 Flats a welcome new neighbor.
Projects like these also play a role in supporting small to medium-sized architecture firms, and give local design teams the opportunity to exercise innovation and creativity in a city overly populated with apartment building templates. For all these reasons, projects like the 602 Flats are unique and necessary puzzle pieces of the urban fabric.
Given the current laws of building economics in the Pacific Northwest, where land value has reached oxygen-depleted levels and construction costs have soared, future small-scale multi-family projects are in serious jeopardy. When you pile on ever-increasing regulatory hurdles, City agencies that resist coordination, and base utility service fees that border on outlandish…. future innovative projects of this kind are very challenging to conceive and implement.
The design team at BUILD LLC applauds the clients for making a long-range commitment, and, in parallel, for creating an example for others to follow. BUILD also encourages and welcomes the brave souls of Seattle who are willing to play a longer game by adding innovative projects to our city. Many well-meaning neighbors are grasping, and outright fighting, to keep Seattle’s soul intact. It’s a worthy battle with many possible solutions. The architects at BUILD offer that small, thoughtfully designed, multi-family projects can preserve some of Seattle’s grit and character while nourishing its future with a new spirit.

The first Gouldian Finch compilation from bitbird was released in 2016, with the second following it up just the next year. However, with San Holo’s album coming out in 2018, the label clearly had a little too much on its hands to keep up the momentum of one a year. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long for #3 to come out.
San Holo has just released the first single from Gouldian Finch 3, his own “Lead Me Back.”
“‘Lead Me Back’ is a very simple song about growing apart and longing to go back to the days when that wasn’t the case yet, and the internal struggle of why that keeps happening to everyone I’ve been with,” Holo says. “I thought about not releasing the song at all because it’s a very personal song, with me singing and playing the guitar, so I literally feel like I’m naked.”
That feeling of nakedness is extended to the music video, though not literally. It’s a simple music video through the eye of a keyhole, simply featuring San Holo singing and playing his acoustic guitar. It’s raw and vulnerable, meant to mirror the nature of the song itself. You can tell through San’s body language just how much the song means to him. That sense of personal importance will no doubt resonate with many of his fans, as well.

One surefire way to tell that a major artist is going to release new music is when they sign a new record deal, and Swedish House Mafia has just signed with Columbia Records. According to Variety, Sony-owned Columbia Records was in a bidding war with Universal-owned Republic Records but eventually came out with the win.
It’s been rumored for nearly a year now that Swedish House Mafia has new music coming, ever since their reunion at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2018. The group has continued to tease out new tour dates in 2019, including appearances at major international festivals, as well as a recently hinted return to Los Angeles.
Swedish House Mafia’s last original music was released in 2012, with their debut album Until Now, featuring hits like “Don’t You Worry Child” and “Save The World.”
Steve Angello, in particular, has been vocal about the return of the group and seems excited about the prospect of putting out new music and getting back on the road.
“Yes, absolutely, Swedish House Mafia is back,” he said to a Swedish news publication in August 2018. “Now during summer everyone is traveling a lot, but we’ve entered the studio. I can’t really say much more, but we’ve decided that: ‘Here we go.’”
With less than three months left until Swedish House Mafia’s first shows back in Stockholm, it’s safe to assume that we might hear new music before then.
Columbia Records also recently signed Gesaffelstein and boasts the legendary Daft Punk.

Rohit Shetty has Temper rights but his version won’t be a remake
Ranveer Singh is an energetic actor who has grown up on masala Hindi films. He aspires to do more of such films. On the other hand, Rohit Shetty is a master of commercial Bollywood films. Both came together last year for the ad campaign of ‘Ching’s Secret’, whose brand ambassador is Ranveer. Their association was great and the camaraderie that they shared during media appearances made everyone wonder if they’d work together. Soon enough, Rohit Shetty revealed that he’ll be doing a film with Ranveer Singh.
Later, reports that Rohit Shetty would remake the hit Telugu film Temper and that it’ll feature Ranveer Singh reprising the role of Junior NTR. However, Rohit Shetty has now revealed that while he has bought the rights of Temper, the film that he is going to direct is not exactly a remake. He clarified that he has taken only four-five scenes from Temper’s original version but to avoid any problems, he thought that it’s better to buy the rights. He also reminded that he did something similar with his hit 2011 film, Singham. His version was drastically different from the original version and yet, he obtained the rights.
Rohit Shetty however isn’t bothered that there will be comparisons between his version of Temper and the original flick and he explains why. Firstly, he argues that there’s no film in today’s times that releases without any controversies or comparisons. Secondly, he has had an experience in this regard with Singham. He in fact says that there were hardly any comparisons between the original and his film.
Lastly, he rubbishes reports that Kajal Aggarwal has been signed for this film. Rohit Shetty revealed that he is yet to write the final draft and that the female protagonist’s part hasn’t shaped up yet. He will announce the lead only in December 2017 or January 2018. Temper is expected to go on floors in mid-2018.
Before Temper, Rohit Shetty is working on Golmaal Again, which is on floors right now. It is the fourth part of the blockbuster Golmaal franchise and stars Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Tabu. It releases on Diwali this year.

Mark Zuckerberg will stop at nothing until every individual is on Facebook — or so it seems.
According to multiple reports, he’s looking into ways to reel the teens back into his flagship social media platform. They’ve become distracted — even engulfed — in newer, hotter apps like Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok. He’s simply not having that.
Sources close to Facebook say Zuckerberg has spent months building what’s being called LOL. The specialty feed is expected to focus on meme-like shares, funny videos and other short, GIF-like clips. Categories are to include “Animals,” “Fails,” “Pranks” and a dedicated “For You” feed.
TechCrunch has the scoop on LOL. Apparently 100 high school students have already been using LOL. Of course, they signed non-disclosure agreements and had their parents sign for them.
Speaking to TechCrunch, an inside source calls the new LOL “cringey,” in that it feels like an attempt for Facebook to be cool and hip with the kids. Well, that’s exactly what it’s trying to do, so that makes perfect sense.
We’ll have wait and see if LOL actually rolls out to its Facebook users.

A Senate Committee on Foreign Relations subcommittee met with a panel of experts on Wednesday to discuss a response to “international predatory economic practices.” While the broad terminology was surely meant to include a broad range of topics, one country was on everyone’s mind: China.
Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) opened the event by stating his belief that U.S. national security lies largely in the security of our economy. While many countries engage in predatory economic practices, China’s practices are unique in “scope, nature, severity, and consequences.”
China is seeking to advance its Made in China 2025 plan by exploiting joint ventures and acquiring foreign enterprises through government subsidiaries, according to witness testimony from Dr. Robert Atkinson, president of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, and Michael Wessel, a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission .
“China is in its own league,” wrote Atkinson in his prepared statement, “fielding predatory economic and trade policies and practices.”
Young rattled off ways China exploits foreign businesses when granting access to its market, including forced technology transfer, forced local production, theft of intellectual property, and manipulation of technology standards. “And that’s not a comprehensive list!” Young punctuated.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) added that American businesses have been “mesmerized” by the Chinese consumer market, but failed to respond to aggressive and often illegal Chinese methods that negate any benefits.
The brunt of Chinese malpractice has been felt most by American workers. The unfair economic aggression from China has driven down labor value, pushed jobs overseas, and deprived the American people of their economic security, speakers said.
“We cannot allow other nations to ignore labor and environmental standards in an attempt to undermine our markets and gain competitive advantage,” said Kimberly Glas of the BlueGreen Alliance.
Glas gave a handful of examples of Chinese recklessness in manufacturing that led to severe ecosystem pollution, including the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Her organization estimates that if the bridge had been built with American steel, 180,000 tons of carbon emissions could have been averted (along with a number of other problems).
Atkinson brought up the “Chinese playbook,” an elegantly simple way to describe China’s trade policy boiled down to four parts. First, China wants to be globally competitive, if not dominant in virtually all technologies. But because China lacks the capability to rise to this dominance organically any time soon, its strategy is focused on stealing, coercing, or buying this technology (that’s step 2).
Once Chinese enterprises get hold of often illegally acquired technology, those entities receive grand subsidies, protections, and benefits from the Chinese government.
The final step is export subsidies and benefits to overtake global markets and industries. The World Trade Organization was never built to handle economies that don’t play by the rules, and it still isn’t equipped to preside over a nation like China. Atkinson called for drastic reform, spearheaded by the United States to combat China on a global scale. Stopping IP theft, dramatic funding reduction to China from the World Bank, and creating a special regime tasked with handling Chinese investment were all on the agenda.
The panel agreed that Congress currently has the tools to defend the U.S. and its economy from Chinese intervention. The Section 301 tariffs were a good start, but they could have been implemented as early as eight years ago. The panel called for heavier use of trade act sections and self-initiated cases to show the public they’re acting.
All speakers at the event were united in stating that when the playing field is level, the United States wins. But there are rule breakers like China out there, and it’s our responsibility to protect our own national economy and security.

Dilip Kumar discharged from hospital
Fans of veteran star Dilip Kumar can now heave a sigh of relief since their favourite actor has been discharged from the hospital. Earlier this week we had reported that Dilip Kumar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital after complaints of dehydration. But now all is well and the actor is out of the hospital safe and sound.
At the start of the week, there were reports of Dilip Kumar being admitted due to dehydration with further claims that he may be in need of dialysis if his health worsens. However, a day ago former actress and Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu had asserted that his health has been improving and today he has been discharged. In fact, pictures of him venturing out of the hospital have already started doing the rounds on media.
Also, Saira Banu took to social media to assure the fans of Dilip Kumar Sahab about his recovery wherein she posted a series of posts to spread the message.

A hopeful attendee of Defqon 1 recently pled guilty after trying to smuggle 114 capsules of MDMA into the music festival. She wasn’t let past the front gate when drug dogs sniffed her out and authorities found her in possession of drugs — which were stuffed inside of a condom, hidden in her underwear.
It was 20-year-old Tracy Nguyen of Sydney, Australia. As the report goes, she became “erratic” around police and authorities became suspicious of her. After being targeted by drug dogs, she was stripped searched and that’s when authorities found the 114 capsules. She was taken into custody.
“Gurl would you be able to get it off someone else inside,” an incriminating text of Nguyen’s read. “I’m alrdy bringing 12.34g. I’m scared coz its my first time for dq. But ive done a few indoors before. And everyone says dq has 30 dogs and 100 polices.”
The contact in her phone reportedly responded, “There are like 2-3 dogs max. But yes there’s heaps of cops.”
Defqon 1 took place in September 2018. Months later, Nguyen’s guilty plea was heard. Her sentencing is set for March.

One of the great joys of owning a home is having the space to entertain. That’s why many home shoppers pine over houses with a great backyard, picturing themselves putting in a dining table, a barbecue, and maybe some raised flower beds.
But why stop there? Recent trends show that to many homeowners, “outdoor living” means more than just setting up a GrillMaster; the ideal outdoor space now looks like an extension of your interior. In fact, a new report from Houzz found that 88% of homeowners taking on landscaping projects upgrade outdoor living elements such as furniture and heating features that make spending time outside more comfortable. In February and March, the home remodeling and design website surveyed more than 750 U.S. homeowners using Houzz who are planning, are in the midst of, or recently completed a landscaping project.
“We’ve continued to see homeowners put greater priority on developing a personalized outdoor living environment,” says Matthew Breyer, president and lead designer for Breyer Construction & Landscape. “No longer are we simply ‘building boxes,’ but rather, we’re working as designers to help flesh out how our clients anticipate living in these spaces, and where their priorities are.”
Landscape architect Drew Langston agrees that homeowners are focused on outdoor living. In the past two years, Langston has quadrupled the amount of “landscape master plans” he’s working on at any given time. These include pools, patios, walls, fire pits, and extensive landscaping—and his business is based in chilly Buffalo, NY!
Even in the Northeast, where warm weather isn’t as consistent as in other parts of the country, he says people are still jumping at the chance to improve their backyards.

Trending features for the ultimate outdoor living area
Homeowners looking to spend more time living and entertaining in their backyards are actually outfitting them with decor pieces we’re used to seeing inside. For 43% of respondents, that means lounge furniture, while 34% bring in dining furniture. Other hot outdoor furnishings include string lights, at 35%; benches, at 27%; ceiling fans, at 15%; and rugs, at 14%—all of which make the space look like a cohesive room.
Heating sources such as fire pits are also popular, with nearly 40% of respondents saying they installed, or are thinking of installing, one. Outdoor heating overall is valuable as it can extend the season for outdoor entertaining.
Of course, tricking out your backyard in 2018 also means bringing in some shiny new devices such as TVs, chosen by 59% of respondents; wireless speakers, at 42%; and wired charging hubs, at 11%. Breyer also mentions that accessories such as fans and LED lighting have taken priority among clients.
“We have been working with a number of customers that have amazing lighting, full outdoor sound systems, and other outdoor amenities, all that work in conjunction with the indoor sound systems,” says Patrick Harders, a contractor in Northern Virginia specializing in outdoor lighting. “These allow people to entertain as if they are in their own private resort.”
Speaking of privacy, it’s also one of the biggest requests from homeowners undergoing a landscaping project.
“Due to the increase in time spent entertaining outdoors, people are realizing just how close the neighbors are. We do more construction with mini pergolas, decorative feature walls, outdoor blinds, and tiered landscaping to address these concerns,” says Breyer. Privacy fences and noise-canceling barriers are also popular choices for folks who don’t want to end the party at 10 p.m.
How much are people spending?
Outdoor renovations can be expensive, but it’s a cost that a majority of homeowners are willing to pay. According to the survey, 56% of homeowners spent more than $10,000 on their outdoor renovations. Almost a third, 32%, reportedly spent less than $5,000.
“In my experience, the average landscape (planting and beds only) is about $3,500 to $5,000, and the average project involving hardscaping (walls, patios, fire pits) as well is about $15,000,” Langston says. “This being said, we execute several jobs a year between $25,000 and $50,000, and usually one to three jobs a year that can be between $80,000 and $100,000. I truly believe an enjoyable landscape is achievable at any budget.”

Why homeowners are shifting their focus outdoors
The biggest reason for starting a landscaping project is to improve elements of the outdoor space that have deteriorated. But once those updates are made, 67% of homeowners said they spend more time outside once they completed a landscaping project, with 62% of those spending their time relaxing and 44% gardening. So when it comes down to it, people just want to have an outdoor place to unwind that’s as comfortable, accommodating, and private as their living or dining room, no matter if they live in Boca Raton, FL, or Buffalo.
“In Western New York we only have a few months of great weather that we can actually be outside,” says Langston. “People want to spend more money to create an amazing space outdoors so they can enjoy the nice weather as much as possible.”

Sona addressed the entire issue about Kangana’s recent openness in her recent Facebook post. She wrote, “Dear Kangana, I have always cheered loudly, in private & in public for you. Long, long before you turned queen et all but your current run across the airwaves regurgitating personal details of your love life over & over again, washing dirty linen in public & more so as part of a professional PR campaign before your film release is in bad taste. No two ways about it.”
Sona Mohapatra also questioned Kangana Ranaut’s feminist stand and termed it as a big dis-service to the cause of feminism & fair play. She added, “Also, it does a big dis-service to the cause of feminism & fair play. Wish you well & wish you would rise above this muck & make your point through actions & your work. Your success doesn’t need this tabloid trail. On Sunday, Rajkummar Rao was left star struck when he received a handwritten note from Amitabh Bachchan praising his performance in his latest release Bareilly Ki Barfi. An overwhelmed Rajkummar took to Twitter to share the picture of the note and a bouquet he received from Amitabh Bachchan. “When the legend sends you this handwritten note.. Thank you my dearest @SrBachchan sir. You’ve made my day. Much regards & charan sparsh,” he captioned the photo.
The handwritten read, “I saw your film Bareilly Ki Barfi…It is amazing! I have been an admirer of your work for a long time, but your performance in this film is really beautiful. My best wishes always. Love, Amitabh Bachchan.”
Amitabh Bachchan also took to his Twitter to share his views on the film. “Saw Bareilly ki Barfi last night…A delightful film and such competent and excellent performances!!” he tweeted.

Tomorrowland Winter’s main stage opened up this morning in the French Alpe D’Huez, and it already seems like a frigid and fun party. Festivals in the cold are not uncommon these days, with events like Snowta and Snowglobe becoming more popular, but Tomorrowland Winter is the first of its kind in a French ski resort in the mountains.
Today’s headliners include DJ Snake and Afrojack on the main stage, along with class clown Salvatore Ganacci, and Israeli trance duo Vini Vici. It’s all being live streamed now at live.tomorrowland.com.

Hey guys! Man. THANK YOU so much for the overwhelming response on the reveal of the Small World room yesterday! (If you haven’t seen it yet check it out here!)
You know I try to post tutorials for everything that I do but friends, a tutorial for this wall treatment just isn’t happening. Not because I don’t think that you can do it, but because I think you TOTALLY CAN!! Let me explain.
This room started off as a rough (and I mean rough) sketch. There were no measurements or angles or exactness. I knew the general size and the general shape and that was good enough for me. (Court was a little concerned when I pulled out my drawing)
I started off by measuring and marking the size for each building on the wall with tape. Then we got to work ripping pieces of 1/2″ plywood down and started attaching them to the wall (just make sure when you’re doing this that you’re hitting at least one stud!)
I also used 1×2’s to add detail and dimension. If you’ve ever seen Small World you know that dimension is of most critical importance, everything got layers.
Once the build out was done it was time to pull it all together. This is where I hit a creative roadblock (if you follow my instastories you were a part of this emotional and frustrating part!)
The detail was pretty much done and it was time to start adding wallpaper and paint. The biggest issue that I kept running into is that it was going very juvenile really quickly. I know how that sounds. This is a kids room, I’m using It’s A Small World as inspo. DUH of course its juvenile. But the dilemma is that my daughter is 9 and so I wanted the room to feel more old kid and not nursery. A good dose of whimsical and modern.
I started painting and almost immediately hated it. See I get this feeling in my gut and I know if I’m on the right track or not. It was just too busy with the wood and the wallpaper (even though the paper is white) and the patterns. Again, I know how this sounds. How is it not supposed to be busy?! It just felt like mixing the shapes and the colors and the elevations was just too much.
Oh and did I mention that one of the best things about this type of work is having hard deadlines, and I had to have this room ready for pictures the next day. Not a problem.
So I did what any rational person that hated what was happening would do. I started painting over everything. As I was doing this I was feeling SO conflicted. I love the natural wood, but with the floors and the dresser and the whole vibe I was going for they couldn’t stay natural.
After I had painted everything white I was so gut sick. It just wasn’t working! And now I couldn’t go back (plywood doesn’t sand well). I needed to take a break and walk away from the situation.
Have you ever listened to Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED talk about creative genius? It’s SO AWESOME. Go listen to it right now! For me, creativity is spiritual. Not in a religious sort of way, but in a there-is-something-bigger-that-endows-me-with-ideas sort of way. So I left the Merc, parked my car and started to meditate and pray. It was after about 30 minutes of wrestling with my genius (have you listen to the talk yet?!) that I got the distinct impression that I needed to think bigger than the buildings. When I think of my daughter I see her potenitial as such a light. She literally radiates. So I was picturing her sitting in her bed and the idea of doing these rainbow beams came to my mind, because that is just who she is. As soon as I saw it I knew it was exactly what the space needed.
I started measuring and marking the stripes by using masonry line and nails. (You can see the pink masonry line in the picture below, see how it all meets at one central point?)
Then I got to painting. I used sample pots (if youre doing an accent wall with sections of color, 9 times out of 10 you can get away with testers and don’t need to buy full size cans.) It will save you so much money!!
And then voila! we ended up with this!

Further, located right in Yarmouth, we recommend your family to visit restaurants such as the Skipper or Captain Parkers, who have fantastic water views in their outdoor seating areas. There’s no better place to enjoy seafood than Cape Cod, and not even the pandemic can stop that! Finally, because of the limited seating capacity due to social distancing guidelines, we encourage you to call ahead and make a reservation if possible.
Take a Hike!
A fantastic way to distance yourself from others is to take a hike, or a bike! Our first recommendation for hikes are rail trails. First, the Shining Sea Rail Trail stretches 10.7 miles, but has various intervals to park at to customize the length of your journey. The flat paved trail passes through Chapoquoit Beach, Sippewissett Salt Marsh, cranberry bogs, and finishes at historic Woods Hole. Other flat and paved rail trails include the Cape Cod Canal and the Cape Cod Rail Trail– both are also great places to get some fresh air on safe, paved ground.
