I've not been active with photography of late. I'm working on a writing project about the Linux operating system and this blog posting shows my latest progress.

Proyecto LTSP de la Comunidad Ubuntu UdeM

i've been using Ubuntu for a few days now, only a few problems left to work out (dual monitors, forward/backward buttons on mouse). But, other than that, it's been great!

For Ubuntu 11.10

oneiric ocelot

by SkanD GupT

I made this using the GIMP Image Editor in Ubuntu 8.04.

Its not the best I can do, but its my first actual attempt at using GIMP. While somewhat similar to Photoshop, they aren't as similar as many people think.

Enjoy!

Esta foto la tomé en el persa Bio Bio, me llamó la atención el tremendo sistema de enfriamiento y el sticker de Ubuntu pegado en él.

Image for the Ubuntu Artwork group.

Do not comment.

Installing Ubuntu on my old clamshell iBook today. I got this screen for 35 minutes. Doesn't inspire confidence. (Now it's hanging on 'Testing security update repository' too...)

This is a test to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick against Linux local privilege exploit that was published by Dan Rosenberg a couple of hours ago.

I've never used spreadsheets much in school, but regardless they're useful for one reason or another. Calc can open Excel-formatted spreadsheets, so old spreadsheets don't have to be re-created!

one single line to get you absolute minimal X windows on ubuntu:

sudo aptitude -y install xserver-xorg-core xinit menu menu-xdg fluxbox synaptic

My working environment in addition to OS X. I barely use Windows, just for testing purpose, or run some commercial software only available on Windows now.

All set up, including twinview. It's much easier to install nvidia-settings rather than edit xorg.conf yourself described in Ubuntu forum. The only thing no good is I have to switch back and forth if I put D620 on the docking station.

I don't want to customize the fonts, look & feel, especially to be a fake Mac OS X. Maybe I will smooth the fonts but never do something about the theme, waste of time. Think good look and feel, use OSX.

Cisco VPN client has also worked, but no GUI. It doesn't matter to me.

I don't even want to use my Macbook for a while. It's full of fun to work under Ubuntu. Playing with Compiz Fusion:)

I will make a list of apps to install after installing Ubuntu from USB stick.

BTW: Remember to install Dropbox!
