This Paul Cret design towers over the University of Texas campus. At 307 feet tall, this historic building is not only UT's but one of Austin's most distinguished landmarks.

This is the building where back in the 1966 a student started killing people from the top. Charles Whitman was a student at the University of Texas at Austin who killed 14 people and wounded 31 others as part of a shooting rampage from the observation deck of the University's 32-story administrative building on August 1, 1966. He did this shortly after murdering his wife and mother. He was eventually shot and killed by Austin police.

The University of Texas did win a National Championship this year; just not in football or basketball but in swimming and diving. Other sports (baseball, track, etc. )still TBD.

I came across a booth selling these "paintings" outside my local HEB grocery store. This one really struck me as it looks extremely similar to a photo I took myself, and have had on flickr for a while.

Nobody's ever mentioned it in any promotional literature that I've seen, but some houses at Mueller could have UT and downtown views. The landmarks look pretty puny in this shot, but there are developments much further away than Mueller that make a big deal about even a glimpse of the Austin skyline.

It remains to be seen whether the street and house plans, either through luck or planning, actually make use of them. Other constraints, like sun angles, will naturally take priority.

This is in the old Mueller parking lot just south of the traffic control tower.

After visiting the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin, Mike and I walked across the campus to visit the Turrell Skyspace at the Student Activity Center. Along the way, I paused to take a few photos of one of UT's iconic scenes -- the Littlefield Fountain with The University of Texas Tower in the distance, at the opposite end of the South Mall.

The fountain's sculpture was created by Italian-born artist Pompeo Coppini, and it was unveiled in 1932. It was funded by Major George W. Littlefield to commemorate UT students and alumni who died in World War I. The UT Tower was designed by Paul Cret of Philadelphia and completed in 1937.

The bullet holes are remnants of the citizens firing freely on the tower trying to stop Charles Whitman's 1966 tower massacre.

Don't know what made the green tint to the scene, but I loved the result.

EDIT: Contrasting Orange and Green. :) Man-made and natural....

Walking some distance away from the tower, once can come across the East mall fountain in the Campus.

This time around, I tried to frame it with the tower lit 06. It was a bit difficult to get the correct position to get it.
