The building features five levels (including plant) with an additional three plant & lab levels underground.
The building’s sleek off-white facade uses a compressed recycled glass board and is inspired by the organic forms of a tree grove, contrasting with 700 colourful box style windows.
A concrete spiral staircase acts as the building’s main artery, featuring natural light from a skylight.
Lining the walls around the tops of the stairway are thousands of mosaic tiles, which were sourced from Spain.
Building 7 features a large green roof which provides insulation & also stormwater collection.
All water collected on the building’s roof, gardens, and paved areas is recycled for use in irrigation of the green roof and Alumni Green area.
A 27,000 litre rainwater tank provides water for the rooftop garden and the toilets.
The ventilation system has been integrated with natural cooling system to reduce energy consumption by up to 20%.
A 220 seat Super Lab stretches 52m across the building, and can run up to 12 science classes at one time.
Its the first of its kind that features full wireless connectivity.
There are also specialist lab & research facilities found throughout the building.
Also, in a corner of the building is a brightly coloured lime-green lecture theatre that holds up to 200 people.
The green auditorium features ceiling lights made from glass lab flasks.
This gentleman was minding the University of Technology Sydney - Jumbunna booth. Jumbunna is UTS' Indigenous House of Learning. I drew his attention by telling him my daughter does part-time teaching at the UTS.

FJMT designs the new UTS central building at the university of technology in sydney.
Architecture studio, FJMT has designed the new UTS central building at the university of technology in sydney. for this landmark site, a sinuous architectural form has been developed by the architects, which aims to provide a building that responds to the harsh urban environment through both aesthetics and function.
The lower levels are designed by FJMT to comprise of a dramatic podium, overlooking broadway to the south and alumni green to the north. this will house the bulk of the social, student-focused areas, including a learning commons, the new UTS library, scholarly reading room, collaborative classrooms, general teaching spaces and a student services hub. Meanwhile, the upper levels take the form of a tower that twists and rotates as it climbs, in response to the surrounding building and site geometries.

This brutalist school is built to complement the beautiful bushland granite cliffs that it sits on, and does a nice job of it. The architect stated that the natural landscape was so beautiful, it should not have been built on. So his goal was to make the building as compact as possible, and disturb the natural landscape as little as possible. The project won a Sulman Award and is now heritage listed. Unfortunately, the school recently sold much of the surrounding land to a developer, who is building an enormous retirement home around it.
