The Dr Chau Chak Wing building at the University of Technology Sydney Business School, designed by Frank Gehry.
'The stunning new UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) building joins other new landmark buildings within the rapidly transforming and revitalised western gateway to Sydney's CBD.
'Representing a multi-million dollar investment in the future of learning and research, its classrooms, public spaces and research spaces will accommodate up to 5,000 students and staff.
'Located on the corner of Broadway and Wattle Street, Ultimo, the 44,000-square metre FEIT building is clad in a unique, aluminium "binary code screen" patterned with 1s and 0s that define the façade.'

This includes almost 100,000 eBooks, 50,000 eJournals, and almost a quarter of a million books.
Library Retrieval System
UTS Library is only the 2nd library in Australia to feature a robotic library retrieval system (LRS).
Six robotic cranes handle the task of managing the 325,000 books stored in 12,000 galvanised steel bins.
The $28.5 million high-tech LRS is located in a bunker underneath the UTS Library.
The robots use frequency tags to identify books.

I watched the documentary on the creation of this building on the BBC last year or possibly the year before. I knew I was visiting Australia at that time and I knew this was only a short car journey away from where I was staying. I ended up walking there in the end and it only took 35 minutes (I think!) The building is even more impressive in person! And what is great is the space surrounding the building. And I love the combination of the glass and brick work. You can view it from every angle. There is a little seating around the back which you can sit at and admire the building, which I did of course.
Definitely the most impressive modern building I have EVER seen!
Formerly known as the Teacher's College.
Architect: David Turner (1968-71)
Landscape Architect: Bruce Mackenzie
This brutalist school is built to complement the beautiful bushland granite cliffs that it sits on, and does a nice job of it. The architect stated that the natural landscape was so beautiful, it should not have been built on. So his goal was to make the building as compact as possible, and disturb the natural landscape as little as possible. The project won a Sulman Award and is now heritage listed. Unfortunately, the school recently sold much of the surrounding land to a developer, who is building an enormous retirement home around it.
