One of the things I love about black & white is the ability to make green dark and the subject stand out - such is the case here with this Boeing F/A-18E "Rhino" Super Hornet coming in to touch on Portland-Hillsboro Airport and then take off, only to go into afterburner. Please enjoy this black and white responsibly.

Now I live for among other things, watching the US Navy Tac Demo put on its routine. Today I got from the Tac Demo the high show routine list:

1. Dirty roll to half Cuban eight
2. Flat pirouette
3. Minimum radius turn to tail stand
4. High speed pass to abrupt pull-over reversal
5. Vertical pirouette
6. Square loop to 90/40 reversal
7. Inverted whisper pass
8. High alpha pass to Split-S reversal
9. Horizontal pitch rate demonstration
10. Touch & go to low transition
11. Photo pass
12. Carrier Brake to full stop landing

I just love the horizontal pitch rate demonstration you see here folks. Love it.

Really like this image as this shows the water vapor compressed by the rising Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet (aka Rhino) wings as the Rhino pulls up. The vapes are clouds created due to so much low pressure from the lift the wings create.

Here, I adjusted black & white tonality so the vapor cloud clearly showed up. Yes, as the F/A-18F Super Hornet nears Mach 1 the air starts to compress around the jet - hence the cloud.

Apparently VAQ-129 (the Growler & Prowler training squadron) is doing tanker training w/ a VFA-122 Super Hornet. So thought you'd like a break from Jetliner January - more tomorrow!
Really, truly appreciate this US Navy Tac Demo team pulling a maneuver to put the 'burners straight back towards the bleachers. I mean that!
Did my best here to incorporate Mount Baker as the backdrop. Input welcome ;-).

I just decided here to go a full 600mm on the rented 150-600mm Tamron and hope I didn't disappoint. The bokeh here is really nice as well.

So bummed Flickr crashed on 22 Jan. 2013 because of too many pictures being loaded at once. So I'll load the F-22 on the 22nd pics first, and then a few more. Then some more and finally a heavy load of Jetliner January.

Nothing like a US Navy Tac Demo to make an airshow FOR THE KIDS!
Next Saturday the 18th, an airshow for adults - Props and Ponies at HFM in Bellingham. Lots and lots of propeller planes... that go fast!
Definitely awesome by my definition of the word. Really great to see the F/A-18F Super Hornet do a practice strafing run and then pull up just-in-time...
