As many followers know, VFA-122 "FLYING EAGLES" participate in the US Navy Tac Demo program. This afterburner takeoff into the Oregon sunset was part of their "Field Carrier Landing Practice" demo. Normally done at the extreme ends of the runway, the unique layout of the Oregon International Airshow allowed for a safe view of Field Carrier Landing Practice - a view enhanced by a Tamron 18-400mm lens. For those who don't know, FCLP = Field Carrier Landing Practice. Before every carrier deployment, naval aviators must conduct FCLP to relearn how to land on a very narrow and small aircraft carrier runway safely and accurately. One of the concluding acts of the US Navy Tac Demo is a FCLP bounce at one end of the runway...

So yeah, I was happy to pop down to the Oregon International Airshow for the twilight show. Frankly on a day with difficult news back home about FCLP and NAS Whidbey Island - this performance lifted my spirits. Thanks for the US Navy Tac Demo reminding me yet again the joy of FCLP.

With smoke and haze making the 2017 Abbotsford International Airshow atmospherics very unique, one moment you'd get haze the next moment blue sky. In any event, the US Navy Tac Demo's Boeing F/A-18F "Rhino" was able to put on a good show through the variety of atmospheric conditions.

One of the things I love about black & white is the ability to make green dark and the subject stand out - such is the case here with this Boeing F/A-18E "Rhino" Super Hornet coming in to touch on Portland-Hillsboro Airport and then take off, only to go into afterburner. 9. Horizontal pitch rate demonstration

10. Touch & go to low transition

11. Photo pass

12. Carrier Brake to full stop landing
