Google USB swag from Think Digital with Google event on Oct 5th, 2010. I was humbly honored to be invited as one of the panelist.
I made the tree a long time ago (i believe i was 12 or so), but several improvements have been made this year.
First i hollowed out the trunk (with careful drilling), and drilled small holes through to each branch level. I then fed magnet wire up through the trunk and out the holes, and soldered on the LEDs. The red LEGO brick in back houses the resistor and power switch; the base is some random PCB i scrounged.
This year i substituted a USB plug for the original wall-wart that powered it, and added the Festivus pole. The latter is removable for storage and is, of course, made from aluminum tubing (Very high strength-to-weight ratio).
Happy Holidays!
I don't know; first they were always the wrong way around and now a type C can be a USB 3 or a powerBerry something or other.
We're Here; darned cables!
Tripod-mounted delay triggered long exposure using natural lamp light. 16:9 crop and contrast treatment in Lightroom.
*Behind the Scenes *
So I'm all setup at a craft fayre where I'm intending to shoot portraits and the camera, connected by an extended USB A cable, won't tether. Concern it! It worked two gosh darn days ago. So I have to rearrange everything to allow the Tethertools cable that runs the first two meters to connect directly to the laptop, as that works. The extender that I got on Ebay failed. Lesson learned(ish). Sodding cables!
Well connected at Pelcomb Portraits.

When I got rid of the massive wooden monstority that used to be my monitor stand, it left a lot of my peripherals orphaned. One of the biggest ones was this USB hub, which is also home to my mouse's receiver.
Of course, you can't just leave something like that hanging out in the middle of nowhere, so instead, I stuck some adhesive pads to the bottom of the hub and attached it to the speaker.
It allows easy access to all three ports, a really clear path to my mouse, and it's also somewhat hidden by the speaker's lip. If I ever dont need to see it, I can just tilt the speaker down and it gets hidden.
This is a flash memory controller from Phison that presents as a USB 2.0 Mass Storage device. The photos is over-exposed, and I might reshoot it if anyone has a use for it.
Richard Harman spoke about these chips at Shmoocon 2014.

The GoodFET here is wired into a MAX3421 chip to act as either a Host or Device in USB. This allows you to write horrifically standard-incompliant protocol implementations in order to find exploitable vulnerabilities in both hosts (by emulating devices) and devices (by emulating hosts).
Ain't that nifty?

Blue USB Twister USB Sticks with the Corona brand printed on them - somehow it seemed appropriate to shoot them against some of the Corona Bottles - apparently the bottles were "safely" disposed of by the team here!

The USB cable has a ground shield and 2 data lines which I trimmed off - all I needed was the 5VDC lines which are Red(+) and Black(-)
