TL 08 is a design concept for a fashionable alternative to the ´Cloud´. A stylish USB necklace with secure ´anywhere and at any time´ access to digital memories and other important personal data. Inspired by military Dog Tags and 600 series from Rotring the TL 08 have a minimalistic, masculine and pure ´form follows function´ look. It is made of stainless steel, is tough, light, small and contains an upgradeable, water-and dust-proof 16 GB USB flash drive. As one result of the design study TL 08 was manufactured in a limited edition of 10 pieces – with engraved personalized numbers on back.

Neck & head was looted from some chinese-c*ap lamp. The white ultra bright LEDs were set in paralel connection without any ressistor. They were supposed to work on 3 AAA batteries and I guess that voltage is enough for powering that much diodes directly. For connecting it to the 5V i will put in one ~12ohm ressistor.
4(or 6) out of 8 LEDs will be swapped with blue/UV LEDs for triggering the UV reactive colors on Midibox faceplate(most clubs today don't have UV ligting).

A client brought me a broken 1 Gb USB pen drive containing data. A lanyard attached to the USB key was violently pulled out of the USB port, pulled upwards and quickly. This not only bent the circuit board (which has since been straightened) and pulled the solder pads connecting the USB connector the the board, clean off.
This left nothing to solder to. From here, I used a 20x magnification to track the pads to hairline copper tracks and scrape of the insulation ready to have very thin wires (which dwarf the tracks) soldered to them.
As I did not want to heat up the memory chips too much, I soldered the USB connector to wires, the circuit board to wires and then joined the wires. I ended up soldering 4 data pins and two ground points.
From here, the USB key worked and I extracted 300 MB data.
