It is an immense fault, uplifted on the western side, that runs over 100 miles through Utah and Arizona. In the northern end it is usually called the San Rafael Reef, further south it is the Capitol Reef (National Park) and further south yet it is called the Waterpocket Fold.
Initially, the western side rose 4,000 feet higher than the eastern side, but time, wind and water have diminished the disparity; the elevational relief shown here is 2,800 feet. Erosion has carved a large number of deep canyons, towering walls, and stunning arches. The various layers of sandstone vary from buff to deep red and layers of bentonite clay add hues of lavender and blue.
Photo taken from the center of the Waterpocket Fold, at the trailhead to Brimhall Arch, looking southwest over the Grand Gulch to Deer Point and the Circle Cliffs.
This image of a portion of 79 km-wide Ritchey Crater in the Proteus region of Mars was captured by the CaSSIS camera on the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO).
The image captures the crater’s central uplift – raised from depth during the impact event that carved out the crater itself – and a variety of impact-related rocks, or ‘breccia’, which is essentially broken up fragments of the planet’s rocky surface cemented together by finer-grained material.
NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter already identified features and minerals in this crater that suggest water was once present here. Ritchey Crater is located at 309.06°E/28.13°S, just south of Valles Marineris, where TGO also just reported evidence that vast amounts of water – in the form of ice or hydrated minerals – is still present today.
TGO arrived at Mars in 2016 and began its full science mission in 2018. The spacecraft is not only returning spectacular images, but also providing the best ever inventory of the planet’s atmospheric gases, and mapping the planet’s surface for water-rich locations. It will also provide data relay services for the second ExoMars mission comprising the Rosalind Franklin rover and Kazachok platform, when it arrives on Mars in 2023.

The bald eagle is an opportunistic feeder which subsists mainly on fish, which it swoops down and snatches from the water with its talons. It builds the largest nest of any North American bird and the largest tree nests ever recorded for any animal species, up to 4 m (13 ft) deep, 2.5 m (8.2 ft) wide, and 1 metric ton (1.1 short tons). I don't usually like to get out of bed at 4 in the morning, but decided to give hot air ballooning a try. It started slow in the beginning and i almost thought all the good light would be lost by the time any action started. And then it all began happening at once to the point that I was having a hard time keeping up with all of it. Balloons were taking off almost simultaneously all around me and my adrenaline was kicking in trying to frame my shots and keep things in focus. In the end the whole experience was amazing and I was happy I did it!
At least the road is level, even if it is on three or four different levels.

Really happy with this as it wasn't easy to achieve. Loving the glow too... love it. You'll probably see a lot more of it for a little while.

Taken today in a wonderful community garden in the gorgeous little town of Yackandandah, Victoria. We sampled the cherry tomatoes and wild rocket, so luscious straight from the source :) HMBT
Hills to the east of Badwater Basin in Death Valley, California show uplifted strata in the rock formations in what once was the sea floor. Death Valley, now a National Park, is the lowest elevation in North America.
There are places on the bluffs where the thermals can be felt. Their upward movement lifts the imagination to consider the possibility of flight. Solstice. Near the highest spot on the Great Lakes, Cudahy, Wisconsin.
Do you feel a little…..Wintery-down?? Do you need a little Springtime-upliftment?? Then, come with me to the Keukenhof Park of Holland !!! Cause it is one of the best treats for the Winter-blues!!!…. There are still so many lovely captures , that I have not shared with you, yet….Bloom-captures, and landscape captures… Why? Cause , early Spring is the start of the Keukenhof blessed Season. And, also, the Springtime Awakening time of our garden ! Of all gardens! So, the more the garden wakes up, the more photos I take, the more garden-photos I share with you… And, therefore, lesser from Keukenhof …No problem, though!!! Cause, I share the Keukenhof ones with you during Winter time!!
*** You can see in the secondary photos below, that, apart from the Floral Art, Keukenhof also has some wonderful pieces of Modern Art, which are replaced every other season around the Park! ( *** The landscape captures are better viewed LARGE!! )
