On Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, Hofstra University’s School of Communication hosted its annual Student Press Day, where about 300 high school students from all over Nassau and Suffolk got a close-up look at how print, TV and online journalists work in today’s changing media landscape. The day included a presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning animator Walt Handelsman of Newsday, a special panel on covering disasters, and workshops on social media, graphic design, and specialties such as business, investigative and sports journalism led by journalists and experts from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, PIX-11, News12, WCBS Radio, Newsday, and Hofstra University.

I think this is H.B. Kingsbury's graduation picture from University of Illinois College of Medicine. His picture is in the UIC Digital Collections in flickr.

MLK Celebration Banquet

Each year, Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University collaborate to host a major celebration to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The theme of this year’s program is “On Common Ground: Fueling the Flame of Equality.”

On Jan. 20, civil and human rights leader and immediate past president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Benjamin Todd Jealous will present the Martin Luther King Jr. Day keynote speech at 7 p.m. in Wait Chapel at Wake Forest University. The event is free and open to the public.

Earlier in the evening, Winston-Salem State University will host an invitation-only banquet where one student and one faculty member from both Winston-Salem State and Wake Forest will be awarded the “Building the Dream” award in recognition of their efforts toward improving social justice and building community.

Abbe initiated the still today existing observatorium and became director of it. He lived in Schiller´s garden house for some years.

This was the program for the "First Annual Banquet" of State Normal School, held Aug. 9, 1907. The program's menu includes filet halibut Richmond, colonial punch, sweetbreads and salad a la Carrington. It also says eight toasts were planned to be given during the evening.
