The first noticeable flower I've seen show up outside my house so far this year. I smiled for about 3 seconds until I started sneezing uncontrollably.
You are isolated and small
You are never tall
You struggle just to breathe
Pinch, Pull, Count, Straighten up
Pinch, Pull, Count, Straighten up
Pinch, Pull, Count, Straighten up
Whatever helps.
You are panicking because you are small.
Inhale, exhale.
You can not breathe.
Push and pull
Push and pull
Push and pull
Whatever helps.
What a day it turned out to be today! I left the car in bright sunshine and an hour later as I arrived at the ‘Hare spot’ it was lashing down with sleet/snow, after Mondays long trek I had decided to travel light today, camera, lens, monopod and beanbag, my biggest mistake though was to wear summer walking trousers and in no time I was soaked to the skin and freezing cold, that will teach me to underestimate the Highland weather!
I saw lots of hares but they were in full ‘sprint mode’ and weren’t hanging round, I was on the point of giving up when I thought I’d see if one of my 'old faithful' hares was in its usual place, this is the same hare that I photographed in the summer www.flickr.com/photos/andyhoward1/7204292640/in/set-72157... In the end I spent well over an hour with it until the uncontrollable shivering (me not the hare) forced me off the hill.

this project definitely has me thinking about body/self-image.
i'm a woman. we deal with this question on a very deep, almost self-defining level most of our lives: am i beautiful? if no one is telling us we are, sometimes we do not believe it. sometimes even when people are telling us we are, we still don't believe it. our point of view on this matter can be very skewed to what one person did or didn't say. often the images we allow into our lives also begin to be used in comparison against ourselves. role models become idols that we want so much to be like that we forget how to be ourselves. i think a lot of women agree, this is a hard thing to shut down; it feels like an uncontrollable part of our brain at times.
i've been through a lot of stages with this. i think the hardest times were when i could not see past that one part or another of my body, my face, my hair that i didn't like. every way that things did not look exactly how i thought they should made self-acceptance impossible. at times, especially as a teen, this overriding sense of imperfection meant i couldn't recognize who i was in the mirror. and it's not just about weight. it occured when i was both too skinny and at a different time when i was heavier than i could stand. it happened when i was a teenager and again later when i was in my twenties. it doesn't matter where you are in life. if you are constantly noticing the small defects that you don't like and pointing them out to yourself, there's a level of self-acceptance that is hard to achieve. when those defects become more important to you than your assets, even the people chanting their love for your beauty or personality won't mean a thing.
eating disorders of all kinds are based on a disjointed sense of the reality of your body. you can't love yourself with what you eat because you don't care about what is happening in your body. you'd rather forget it, or harm it, and that's why it seems like an o.k. idea to starve yourself or binge and purge or over-exercise. you can't feel good in your body if you are not loving it with the way you eat.
as i've grown up into an adult and to a more stable place in my self-image, my perception on this has become more simple. i am woman. i am an image bearer of God. that means God created me with the Imago Dei (image of God) and my beauty, my body, my self, was made to be exactly the way it is. if i don't love the way i am and nourish the body as it has needs, i will consistently feel incomplete and unhappy with my appearance. i've found that, perhaps especially for women, unhappiness with appearance can correlate with unhappiness overall. and i'm not saying we should base our joy on our happiness with our appearance, but i am saying that it's important to take note of that within yourself and do something about it. love yourself by nourishing, tending to, and appreciating exactly what you are.
you don't have to deny the fact that you want to feel beautiful. everyone does. that's not vanity, exactly. i think it's a part of the joy of experiencing life to feel beautiful and appreciated for the way you are, and usually that comes along with a healthy appearance and personal style. it's part of grace; we get to see each other and love that seeing. we can even love seeing ourselves, although of course we ought to be cautious there too because vanity is also a disjointed self-image problem. but i do believe it's ok, perhaps especially in the bond of marriage, to see yourself as beautiful in another's eyes and to accept that for yourself. beautiful women who are loved by good men often appear even more beautiful - why? because they have been loved deeply and see themselves as loved. it's that glow. when we know God's love, there can be a yet deeper understanding of our belovedness that can make our hearts softer. we can appreciate and sense our body's beauty; the house of the beloved soul.
the other day in a meeting at work, i noticed that one of the women there - in her fifties - had caught sight of her image reflecting in one of the windows across from where she was sitting. every time she spoke, she watched herself instead of looking at us. it was clear that she was interested in what she saw. she liked herself. she fixed her hair and looked into her own eyes. lovely. and she is a beautiful woman, not exactly because of some cookie cutter image or weight or symmetrical face. just because she is clearly loved in her life and has come to love herself just as she is. that's beauty.

Funny moment, there was this other fan standing near me and when she met John she just started crying uncontrollably. I offered to take a photo of them and email her the photo. John has his arm around her waiting for the shot, she keeps crying, waiting for her to stop crying and look and smile and the camera, he's waiting for the shot still....then asks me "Is she crying?" haha

Helmut Newton photography exhibition review:
You may be disgraced to know that until I saw this exhibition, I was un aware of the beauty that is Helmut Newton. I have always had a crazy uncontrollable interest for nudity and sexual fashion, so it also came as a huge shock to me that his work has never penetrated my mind.
A ravishing exhibition visited in April of 2014 in Berlin, Germany. To be given the opportunity to travel to such an inspirational art filled country in my second year of my fashion course was a gift. Being a lover of sexual art, I was fascinated; The way Newton captures women is astonishing. Seeing a photograph that makes me want to crawl inside it and be in the image, in that moment. As exhibitions go, a beautiful building filled with photographs of beautiful nude women is right up my street. I find sexual images so intriguing, Helmut Newton managed to imprison lust, dominance, desire, and fashion in such a way its irreplaceable. The exhibition represented newton so perfectly, giving you an insight into his life and mind, so artistic but bare. Seeing his passion over every wall in such a great space. The image that captured my heart "self portrait with wife, and models" it beholds everything newton cared for, himself, his work and his beautiful wife. Although gone, Newton is the iconic fashion photographer and I would happily walk round the exhibition again staring at the nude bodies for hours, trying to depict what story it tells.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of malignant neoplasm of the liver. This form of liver cancer is one of the more common malignancies with 6% of men and 3% among women.
In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC, hepatocellular carcinoma), mutations occur in the livers own cells, causing cells to grow freely and uncontrollably. Risk factors that are more commonly associated with this cancer include diabetes, hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis or hemochromatosis.
The liver is the central metabolic organ of the human body. Functional failure of this organ is not compatible with life.
Liver cancer symptoms
The disease signs in liver tumors are very unspecific. Most patients complain:
Weakness
In performance
Weight loss
Hair loss
Late signs of the disease are:
The pressure in the abdomen
Bulges of the abdominal wall
Yellowing of the skin (jaundice)
Back and neck pain
5% of the tumors are late due to tumor metastases (tumor spreads to other organs).
How is liver cancer diagnosed?
The course of the disease is usually progressing very rapidly. The tumor diagnosis is performed using ultrasound, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Using a fine needle biopsy (removal of liver tissue through the abdominal wall using a special needle), the diagnosis can be secured.
What types of liver tumors are there?
In addition to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is the most common form of liver cancer, their ischolangiocarcinoma ( cholangiocarcinoma ), hepatoblastoma, sarcoma or cystadenocarcinoma, all of which are rarities.
Even more common than HCC (liver cell cancer) are liver metastases, i.e. tumor deposits of distant neoplasms in the liver (malignant secondary tumors of the liver). These may, for example, be metastases of a colon carcinoma or a breast carcinoma. Because the liver, as the major metabolite in humans, is very well supplied with blood, it is also the organ most frequently affected by tumor deposits.
Benign (benign) liver tumors include liver cell adenomas, focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), cavernous hemangiomas or liver cysts.
How is a liver carcinoma treated?
The best survival rates for malignant liver tumors or mesothelioma are achieved by a complete, surgical removal (resection) of the neoplasm by a specialist in liver surgery. In addition, existing, severe cirrhosis (shrinking liver) can also be considered a liver transplant.
Prolongation of life through palliative care (measures that do not cure, but facilitate and possibly prolong survival) is limited. However, the quality of life can be significantly improved by measures such as alcohol installation into the tumor, chemotherapy or improvement of the bile outflow.
Liver cancer alternative treatments for tumor reduction
If the tumor is not removable by surgery, alcohol may be injected into the tumor or the tumor may be reduced by heat (e.g. radiofrequency probes, RFA = radiofrequency ablation). Tumor shrinkage can “shrink” a previously inoperable tumor to an operable state.
In advanced disease, the tumor can also be reduced by selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT, radioembolization). Radioactive material is transported directly into the tumor. This method reduces tumor size and protects the surrounding tissue in the best possible way.
Another possibility for tumor reduction is the application of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Here, a chemotherapeutic agent is injected directly into the cancer tissue via a vascular catheter, which is advanced to the tumor. These tumor-reducing measures can be bridging measures up to liver transplantation, up to resection or palliative interventions.
A state-of-the-art procedure for tumor reduction in liver cancer is HIFU therapy (ultrasound-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound). In this treatment approach, the tumor is “sonicated” from the outside by means of high-energy ultrasonic waves. As a result, the tumor cells heat up so much that they “cook up” and the tumor shrinks. This process is still in its infancy; however, numerous studies have shown that HIFU therapy is a successful therapeutic approach to tumor reduction with few side effects.
What are the chances of a cure for liver cancer?
Overall, the chances of recovery in hepatocellular carcinoma are rather poor. Patients with known liver cirrhosis (shrinking liver) should, therefore, be screened semi-annually by means of ultrasound and laboratory examination (tumor marker AFP = alpha-fetoprotein).
What is the life expectancy of liver cancer?
Untreated, the average survival time after diagnosis of liver cancer (HCC) is about 4 months. After surgical resection patients survive on average 3 years or 20-50% of patients are healed after liver resection (removal of the entire tumor tissue).
Which specialists are specialists in the treatment of liver cancer?
If you have liver cancer, you want the best medical care. Therefore, the patient asks, where can I find the best clinic for liver cancer therapy?
Since this question cannot be answered objectively and a reputable doctor would never claim that he is the best doctor, one can only rely on the experience of a doctor. The more patients with liver cancer a doctor negotiates, the more experienced he becomes in his specialty.
Thus, liver cancer specialists are specialists in gastroenterology, oncology, visceral surgery, radiology and nuclear medicine who specialize in the treatment of liver tumors. Through their experience, they are the right contact person for the planning, execution or second opinion.
Molly and I did our first photo shoot for a magazine, together. They wanted us to look like we had been in a food fight. That it did. When the photographer (on the left) asked us to laugh uncontrollably, it wasn't hard.
Modelling
For the modelling process I decided to work and create the model in a very segmented manor, building the character out of smaller modular pieces of geometry to be combined later as this allows me more time to work on the more important things by making me prioritise what requires the most detail and what will be the complex and to complete these items first.
Head
As instructed I imported the images on to an image plane on the x and z axis’, using the “create polygon” tool to trace the outline of the model’s side profile, then using the extrude tool to create a grab-able edge that should be used to create the proper topology however when I tried to extrude the proper edges again to produce more faces, the normals became uncontrollable and wild, as a result I abandoned this technique and opted for one I have had more experience with in the past, thus I created a cube with several separations that I can use to create the head by inserting additional edge loops and manipulating them into the required shapes. In retrospect it would probably have been wiser to start with this method to begin with and working on building the skills I developed last year rather than jumping straight into a new method, however the knowledge I gained from these videos did help as I went along and may be a skill to work on for future projects.
I continued creating the head by scaling the cube up so that an the orthographic view would show all the corners of the cube meeting the nearest edge or being as close as possible to the edge of the face in the images, I then cut the cube in half and deleted the entire left half so that I can work on the right half and duplicate the finished half mirrored in the z axis then combine the two halves to create the final head. I’ve began by inserting additional edge loops around the main features such as the eyes, nose and mouth so they would act as outlines on the orthogonal view, I then began to use a combination of standard selection and soft selection to move the vertices to the required positions then using the sculpt geometry tools to refine the final shape, I have also added additional edge loops into the facial construction to give more definition to the features and also entered smooth mode to see how the face will eventually look. This process was extremely time consuming and difficult but on the plus side there was little guess work to be done as the two image plains provided me with most of the outlines and places of shape for me to work from, however one particular part that I did find tricky was the indents around the nose where the eye sockets are, as the images couldn’t convey that sort of information.
I modelled an eyeball and eyelids by using the poly sphere tool and creating three spheres about the same size with only one being slightly smaller than the other two and selecting several faces that form a circle and pushing them inward a bit to create the pupil and using the now introverted faces that surround the manipulated faces as the irises, I then went in and deleted the top half of one of the outer spheres and the bottom half of the other, this way the lids can be rotated to give the impression the eye is opening. This was a quick and very efficient method to produce an effective eyeball.
After several days’ worth of attempts to get the head right, the head model wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be even after trying to get it up to scratch using the sculpt geometry tool, as a result I have decided to totally recreate the head using a technique that my lecturer demonstrated to me, using the quad draw tool in the modelling toolkit to recreate the character’s head and create better topology in the process, making the edge loops curve around the major features such as the mouth and eyes, then using the sculpt geometry tool to refine it. After several hours of trying to get as many quads in as necessary in one go. I’d finished the head geometry, while it was not perfect I believe it is still enough of an improvement to go forward with I’ve also aligned the eyeball with the head, I have aligned all the central vertices so that they can be mirrored along the z axis to be duplicated, flipped and combined to make the final geometry. After doing so I had the idea to create the characters hair by duplicating the characters head, deleting the faces that will show any flesh, extruding the edited geometry to give a slight off-set from the character’s head but then selecting vertices at every other interval then scaling them outwards so as to create a bumpy effect as if the character has curly or un-kept hair. This was a quick way to produce a head even if it wasn’t what I hoped it would be and while my idea to create the hair may be unorthodox, I think it gives the model a unique character.
Hands
I began work on the character’s right hand by again starting with a polygon primitive cube and using the insert edge loop tools to create the faces that I later extruded outwards to form the fingers and thumb using the scale tool to stretch and compress the vertices to manipulate and distort the original shape into the desired form, adding extra edges in order to enhance the shape to bring it closer to the form I want it to be such as around the knuckles and finger joints, scaling the finger tips down to get that more telescopic effect in fingers and thumb and manipulating the vertices to give the knuckles and finger joints more prominence. I then added any additional edge loops to give additional shape when the arms and body were finished I then put everything together, scaled it so the proportions looked reasonable and finally flipped the whole thing. This was a very efficient and quick way of modelling the hand and in hindsight is much better than my initial approach of tracing an image of a human hand with the create geometry tool, extruding the created face inserting edge loops then adjusting the new loops to give shape which totally backfired as the faces created a webbing around the mesh.
Feet
When I started to model the character’s extremities I started with the feet as they seemed to be the most simple and easy to get out of the way. I began by creating a polygon cube then using the scale tool to stretch the geometry to be more in line with the proportions of a typical foot then inserting edge loops at the required points to create gradients in the shoe’s geometry such as the shoes rim and soul lip, I then entering smooth mode to see which edge loops needed to be manipulated and how, this has resulted in some peculiar shapes in the standard mode, however this was later remedied by adding extra loops at strategic places. This method was quick and efficient, while it may not have produced the most detailed result or used the proper topology recommended for similar situations it serves its purpose. This shoe was eventually placed under the leg and reflected in the z axis.
Midsection and legs
I started to work on the character’s body by firstly creating a poly cube then adding loops around the general rib area then adding some horizontal loops to help give the right kind of gradient in his shoulders and pectoral muscles. In addition I have used the extrude tool to get the bottom of the shirt and get the rim that turns back on itself and lead into the hips, at the top of the torso I also added the neck through the use of the same tool to get a stem like shape that has a slight offset from the shirt that I can place the finished head on top of later. I have also constructed a basic arm out of “pipes”, filling the hole of one end then adding edge loops for the articulation points such as the elbow as well as around the characters muscle areas to try and get some definition in the bicep and triceps to try and give the impression that the character was physically strong and in the filled hole to get a rounded end to the arm. When work began on the lower body, I proceeded by extruding the edges from the inverted edges of the shirt to create the waist and hips, then cutting the geometry in half and extruding the bottom face of the hips to create the leg, again extruding trouser leg inwards on itself, again I added edge loops on both the vertical and horizontal axis’s to manipulate the leg into the correct shape. In my personal opinion this construction looked ok when separated into the modular components used to construct it, however when compiled together and flipped the mid-section and legs proved to be the weakest component.
Texturing and rendering
I started to texture the character using the pre-created shaders in maya including the wood for the eyes and hair and cloth shaders for the pants, I have decided to use a mixture of lambert, blinn and phong textures re-coloured to reflect the type of material they are and how they reflect the light, I decided against using UV maps as they are extremely finicky to get right and bearing in mind the percentage the model is worth I do not believe it is worth the effort. I have decided to give the character brown hair along with a purple top and blue pants as well as blue eyes. Upon consideration, I have decided to recolour my character in a red top, dark purple pants and blonde hair, as red and purple are colours that are more associated with dark impulses such as arrogance and ambition, which fit the characters personality better, the choice of blonde hair comes from what has been discussed I my animation analysis module which also harkens back to a typically villainous hair colour in animation.

As with a lot of fish, using an "iki jime" (spike to the brain) is the quickest, most humane and effective method to kill your tuna. The reason an ‘iki’ spike is preferred is because it kills the fish instantly, stopping most of the nerve activity throughout the tuna’s body. A lot of times when a tuna is hit on the head with a fish bat, the fish will go into a full body spasm as all the fast twitch fibres shake uncontrollably. This releases large amounts of lactic acid into the muscles and flesh around the tuna’s core.

"We have all seen a car racing down the road with a dog’s head sticking out the window, ears flowing in the wind and lips flapping uncontrollably. “Man, is that dog having fun! He actually looks like he is smiling!” And indeed they are having fun. Unfortunately, they are oblivious to the dangers of their precarious perch. Few people would even think of allowing their children to hang heads out of a car window, or to stick their heads out of a sun roof, but they still allow their pets to risk serious injury by doing so."
"Dogs love the wind in their face but bad things can happen. First, foreign objects like leaves, insects and rocks can strike them with tremendous velocity. Just think back to the damage a tiny pebble might have done to your windshield or the finish of your car. The cornea of a dog’s eye is far more delicate and damages are not so easily repaired. Similarly, foreign bodies can find their way into a dog’s ear or nose and cause severe inflammation.
Even worse, a dog could jump through an open window or be thrown from the car during a swerve or collision. The least severe injury that would result is road rash or a broken leg. That of course assumes he isn’t hit by another car. A dog in the back of a car may look cute but sudden braking or swerving could transform it into a hurling mass of fur and muscle that could cause fatal injuries to the dog or a passenger."

Frog and Toad was one of my favorite series to read as a child, so I decided to depict the scene of Frog and Toad uncontrollably eating cookies as it is far too relatable even now–it's so difficult to eat just one! The cake is a two layer matcha sponge cake to match the olive green aesthetic of Frog and Toad, and the scene of Frog and Toad was painted with a variety of candy melts, chilled, and placed on top of the cake. The cake is frosted with vanilla and matcha buttercream.

1- How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country?
This trip was the first time I had traveled abroad by myself, and I was a little bit nervous about the logistics. However, I was very pleased to find that the ABV Coordinator (Beatriz) was exceptionally accommodating. Despite flight complications, and several other uncontrollable mishaps, my week in Peru was worry free and successful. A large of which can be attributed to the ABV Coordinator.
2- What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
The most surprising thing for me was the standard of the medical facility and staff. I was expecting far worse! It was a clean building with professional staff. While it is nice to know the patients at my clinic are in good hands, I wish I could have played a more integral role in the medical field.
3- What was most difficult to experience?
The most difficult thing for me was working with the children in the clinic. I was concerned by the conditions in which they lived. The physical environment was quite nice, however, the children lacked personal social attention. At the end of the day, it was hard for me to tear myself away from the kids.
4- Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations)
Make Machu at least a two day trip.
4.1-Other things volunteers should know:
a.-Don’t carry all your money around with you, even if it is in a money belt.
b.-Buy a map of the city and keep it with you. Study it a little bit if you have time.
c.-You might be surprised by the amazing conversations you can have with completely random people, if take the time to initiate it.
d.-Plan a group dinner with at least some of the other volunteers; it makes living in a foreign country far less lonely.
5- Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial):
Overall, I absolutely loved my experience in Cusco, Peru. It was definitely the best way I could have spent my one week of spring break. Although I volunteered in a medical setting, I would have liked to been included more in working with patients. That being said, I do feel as though I made a difference in the lives of some – the children. If asked whether or not I would sign up for this trip all over again, I would absolutely say, “Yes.”

I hung out at the 2012 Children's Festival this Saturday, and was greeted with no shortage of smiling faces, adoring parents, screaming, and uncontrollable laughter. In the sometimes dull and boring world we seem to live in, stepping into this paradise of pure joy was a nice vacation from "real life".
If you think about it, kids are relatively low maintenance -- as long as you give them something to laugh at (usually at the expense of one of their parents :P). After putting a playful twist on various song titles and nursery rhymes with his crazy music contraption, "Mr. Mark" put the humiliation of three "stinky dads" from the audience to work in entertaining a crowd of no less than a hundred children as the final act of his performance. He rounded them up from the crowd, sat them down on tiny little chairs, plunked buckets on their heads, and started slamming away.
(All I could think of was Robert Munsch's classic, Mortimer: "Clang Clang Rattle Bing Bang, Gonna make my noise all day!")
Even I had a chuckle, because the more I looked at these three dads, the more I realized the progression of attitudes among them. The dad on the photo's right looks quite stiff and "proper". The dad in the middle seems quite neutral as he just "lets it happen" for the good of the children. The dad on the left is on the other end of the spectrum, and seems to be enjoying the experience much more than anyone in their right mind should be -- Mark was banging quite hard on their musical hats! :P

This is a picture of me from 7th grade, when I was attending the Youth Transition Program.
It's surreal, I spent so much energy turning this time period into a well spun story in my head that seeing it in real life, right fucking there, is just the oddest thing.
I am almost speechless, and i am rarely speechless. I don't even have an instinctual reaction to it. My brain is trying to process this story with the photographic evidence of it's reality, and my emotions are trying to grab onto something, fucking PICK ONE already Sarah.
I can't.
I was hurting so much.
I hurt so many people.
I caused so much strife and heartache,
My anger was uncontrollable.
I had just started to hone the skills I would need to try and hide my mental illness. I was laying the groundwork for tragedy.
This picture looks so innocent. I can't stop looking at it.
just editing some more of these for the remainder of this project. We'd really like to find some way to get these images out there to provide inspiration and strength to others who find themselves faced with this incredibly difficult process of fighting cancer. Debbie is so inspiring......

French postcard by Editions F. Nugeron, no. E 178. French poster by Benjamin Baltimore / Gaumont for Querelle (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1982) with Brad Davis.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982) was a German film director, screenwriter, film producer and actor. Fassbinder was part of the New German Cinema movement. Starting at age 21, Fassbinder made over forty films and TV dramas in fifteen years, along with directing numerous plays for the theatre. He also acted in nineteen of his films as well as for other directors. Fassbinder died in 1982 at the age of 37 from a lethal cocktail of cocaine and barbiturates.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder was born in Bavaria in the small town of Bad Wörishofen in 1945. The aftermath of World War II deeply marked his childhood and the lives of his bourgeois family. He was the only child of Liselotte Pempeit, a translator and Helmut Fassbinder, a doctor who worked out of the couple's apartment in Sendlinger Strasse, near Munich's red light district. In 1951, his parents divorced. Helmut moved to Cologne while Liselotte raised her son as a single parent in Munich. To support herself and her child, Pempeit took in boarders and found employment as a German-to-English translator. When she was working, she often sent her son to the cinema to concentrate. Later in life, Fassbinder claimed that he saw a film nearly every day and sometimes as many as three or four. As he was often left alone, he became independent and uncontrollable. He clashed with his mother's younger lover Siggi, who lived with them when Fassbinder was around eight or nine years old. He had a similar difficult relationship with the much older journalist Wolff Eder, who became his stepfather in 1959. Early in his adolescence, Fassbinder identified as homosexual. As a teen, Fassbinder was sent to boarding school. His time there was marred by his repeated escape attempts and he eventually left school before any final examinations. At the age of 15, he moved to Cologne and stayed with his father for a couple of years while attending night school. To earn money, he worked small jobs and helped his father who rented shabby apartments to immigrant workers. Around this time, Fassbinder began writing short plays and stories and poems. In 1963, aged eighteen, Fassbinder returned to Munich with plans to attend night school with the idea to eventually study theatrical science. Following his mother's advice, he took acting lessons and from 1964 to 1966 attended the Fridl-Leonhard Studio for actors in Munich. There, he met Hanna Schygulla, who would become one of his most important actors. During this time, he made his first 8mm films and took on small acting roles, assistant director, and sound man. During this period, he also wrote the tragic-comic play: Drops on Hot Stones. To gain entry to the Berlin Film School, Fassbinder submitted a film version of his play Parallels. He also entered several 8 mm films including This Night (now considered lost) but he was turned down for admission, as were the later film directors Werner Schroeter and Rosa von Praunheim. He returned to Munich where he continued with his writing. He also made two short films, Der Stadtstreicher,/The City Tramp (1965) and Das Kleine Chaos/The Little Chaos (1966). Shot in black and white, they were financed by Fassbinder's lover, Christoph Roser, an aspiring actor, in exchange for leading roles. Fassbinder acted in both of these films which also featured Irm Hermann. In the latter, his mother – under the name of Lilo Pempeit – played the first of many parts in her son's films.
In 1967 Rainer Werner Fassbinder joined the Munich Action-Theater, where he was active as an actor, director and script writer. After two months he became the company's leader. In April 1968 Fassbinder directed the premiere production of his play Katzelmacher, the story of a foreign worker from Greece who becomes the object of intense racial, sexual, and political hatred among a group of Bavarian slackers. A few weeks later, in May 1968, the Action-Theater was disbanded after its theatre was wrecked by one of its founders, jealous of Fassbinder's growing power within the group. It promptly reformed as the Anti-Theater under Fassbinder's direction. The troupe lived and performed together. This close-knit group of young actors included among them Fassbinder, Peer Raben, Harry Baer and Kurt Raab, who along with Hanna Schygulla and Irm Hermann became the most important members of his cinematic stock company. Working with the Anti-Theater, Fassbinder continued writing, directing and acting. In the space of eighteen months he directed twelve plays. Of these twelve plays, four were written by Fassbinder; he rewrote five others. The style of his stage directing closely resembled that of his early films, a mixture of choreographed movement and static poses, taking its cues not from the traditions of stage theatre, but from musicals, cabaret, films and the student protest movement. Fassbinder used his theatrical work as a springboard for making films. Shot in black and white with a shoestring budget in April 1969, Fassbinder's first feature-length film, Liebe ist kälter als der Tod/Love is Colder than Death (1969), was a deconstruction of the American gangster films of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Fassbinder plays the lead role of Franz, a small-time pimp who is torn between his mistress Joanna, a prostitute (Hanna Schygulla), and his friend Bruno, a gangster sent after Franz by the syndicate that he has refused to join. His second film, Katzelmacher (1969), was received more positively, garnering five prizes after its debut at Mannheim. From then on, Fassbinder centered his efforts in his career as film director, but he maintained an intermittent foothold in the theatre until his death. Fassbinder’s first ten films (1969–1971) were an extension of his work in the theatre, shot usually with a static camera and with deliberately unnaturalistic dialogue. Wikipedia: “He was strongly influenced by Brecht's Verfremdungseffekt (alienation effect) and the French New Wave cinema, particularly the works of Jean-Luc Godard.” Fassbinder developed his rapid working methods early. Because he knew his actors and technicians so well, Fassbinder was able to complete as many as four or five films per year on extremely low budgets. This allowed him to compete successfully for the government grants needed to continue making films. Unlike the other major auteurs of the New German Cinema, Volker Schlöndorff, Werner Herzog and Wim Wenders, who started out making films, Fassbinder's stage background was evident throughout his work.
In 1971, Rainer Werner Fassbinder took an eight-month break from filmmaking. During this time, Fassbinder turned for a model to Hollywood melodrama, particularly the films German émigré Douglas Sirk made in Hollywood for Universal-International in the 1950s: All That Heaven Allows, Magnificent Obsession and Imitation of Life. Fassbinder was attracted to these films not only because of their entertainment value but also for their depiction of various kinds of repression and exploitation. Fassbinder scored his first domestic commercial success with Händler der vier Jahreszeiten/The Merchant of Four Seasons (1971). Loneliness is a common theme in Fassbinder's work, together with the idea that power becomes a determining factor in all human relationships. His characters yearn for love but seem condemned to exert an often violent control over those around them. A good example is Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant/The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972) which was adapted by Fassbinder from his plays. Wildwechsel/Jailbait (1973 is a bleak story of teenage angst, set in industrial northern Germany during the 1950s. Like in many other of his films, Fassbinder analyses lower middle-class life with characters who, unable to articulate their feelings, bury them in inane phrases and violent acts. Fassbinder first gained international success with Angst Essen Seele auf/Fear Eats the Soul (1974). which won the International Critics Prize at Cannes and was acclaimed by critics everywhere as one of 1974's best films. Fear Eats the Soul was loosely inspired by Sirk's All That Heaven Allows (1955). It details the vicious response of family and community to a lonely ageing white cleaning lady (Brigitte Mira) who marries a muscular, much younger black Moroccan immigrant worker. In these films, Fassbinder explored how deep-rooted prejudices about race, sex, sexual orientation, politics and class are inherent in society, while also tackling his trademark subject of the everyday fascism of family life and friendship. He learned how to handle all phases of production, from writing and acting to direction and theatre management. This versatility surfaced in his films where he served as composer, production designer, cinematographer, producer and editor.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s final films, from around 1977 until his death, were more varied, with international actors sometimes used and the stock company disbanded, although the casts of some films were still filled with Fassbinder regulars. Despair (1978) is based on the 1936 novel of the same name by Vladimir Nabokov, adapted by Tom Stoppard and featuring Dirk Bogarde. It was made on a budget of 6,000,000 DEM, exceeding the total cost of Fassbinder's first fifteen films. In einem Jahr mit 13 Monden/In a Year of Thirteen Moons (1978) is Fassbinder's most personal and bleakest work. The film follows the tragic life of Elvira, a transsexual formerly known as Erwin. In the last few days before her suicide, she decides to visit some of the important people and places in her life. Fassbinder became increasingly more idiosyncratic in terms of plot, form and subject matter in films like his greatest success Die Ehe der Maria Braun/The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979), Die Dritte Generation/The Third Generation (1979) and Querelle (1982). Returning to his explorations of German history, Fassbinder finally realized his dream of adapting Alfred Döblin's 1929 novel Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980). A television series running more than 13 hours, it was the culmination of the director's interrelated themes of love, life, and power. Fassbinder took on the Nazi period with Lili Marleen (1981), an international co-production, shot in English and with a large budget. The script was vaguely based on the autobiography of World War II singer Lale Andersen, The Sky Has Many Colors. He articulated his themes in the bourgeois milieu with his trilogy about women in post-fascist Germany: Die Ehe der Maria Braun/The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979), Lola (1981) and Die Sehnsucht der Veronika Voss/Veronika Voss (1982), for which he won the Golden Bear at the 32nd Berlin International Film Festival. Fassbinder did not live to see the premiere of his last film, Querelle (1982), based on Jean Genet's novel Querelle de Brest. The plot follows the title character, a handsome sailor (Brad Davis) who is a thief and hustler. Frustrated in a homoerotic relationship with his brother, Querelle betrays those who love him and pays them even with murder.
Rainer Werner Fassbinder had sexual relationships with both men and women. He rarely kept his professional and personal life separate and was known to cast family, friends and lovers in his films. Early in his career, he had a lasting, but fractured relationship with Irm Hermann, a former secretary whom he forced to become an actress. Fassbinder usually cast her in unglamorous roles, most notably as the unfaithful wife in The Merchant of Four Seasons and the silent abused assistant in The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. In 1969, while portraying the lead role in the TV film Baal under the direction of Volker Schlöndorff, Fassbinder met Günther Kaufmann, a black Bavarian actor who had a minor role in the film. Even though Kaufmann was married and had two children, Fassbinder fell madly in love with him. The two began a turbulent affair which ultimately affected the production of Baal. Fassbinder tried to buy Kaufmann's love by casting him in major roles in his films and buying him expensive gifts. The relationship came to an end when Kaufmann became romantically involved with composer Peer Raben. After the end of their relationship, Fassbinder continued to cast Kaufmann in his films, albeit in minor roles. Kaufmann appeared in fourteen of Fassbinder's films, with the lead role in Whity (1971). Although he claimed to be opposed to matrimony as an institution, in 1970 Fassbinder married Ingrid Caven, an actress who regularly appeared in his films. Their wedding reception was recycled in the film he was making at that time, The American Soldier. Their relationship of mutual admiration survived the complete failure of their two-year marriage. In 1971, Fassbinder began a relationship with El Hedi ben Salem, a Moroccan Berber who had left his wife and five children the previous year, after meeting him at a gay bathhouse in Paris. Over the next three years, Salem appeared in several Fassbinder productions. His best-known role was Ali in Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974). Their three-year relationship was punctuated with jealousy, violence and heavy drug and alcohol use. Fassbinder finally ended the relationship in 1974 due to Salem's chronic alcoholism and tendency to become violent when he drank. Shortly after the breakup, Salem went to France where he was arrested and imprisoned. He hanged himself while in custody in 1977. News of Salem's suicide was kept from Fassbinder for years. He eventually found out about his former lover's death shortly before his death in 1982 and dedicated his last film, Querelle, to Salem. Fassbinder's next lover was Armin Meier. Meier was a near-illiterate former butcher who had spent his early years in an orphanage. He also appeared in several Fassbinder films in this period. After Fassbinder ended the relationship in 1978, Meier deliberately consumed four bottles of sleeping pills and alcohol in the kitchen of the apartment he and Fassbinder had previously shared. His body was found a week later. In the last four years of his life, his companion was Juliane Lorenz), the editor of his films during the last years of his life. On the night of 10 June 1982, Fassbinder took an overdose of cocaine and sleeping pills. When he was found, an unfinished script for a film on Rosa Luxemburg was lying next to him. His death marked the end of New German Cinema.
Steve Cohn at IMDb: “Above all, Rainer Werner Fassbinder was a rebel whose life and art was marked by gross contradiction. Known for his trademark leather jacket and grungy appearance, Fassbinder cruised the bar scene by night, looking for sex and drugs, yet he maintained a flawless work ethic by day. Actors and actresses recount disturbing stories of his brutality toward them, yet his pictures demonstrate his deep sensitivity to social misfits and his hatred of institutionalized violence.”

Breast augmentation surgery is generally considered a safe procedure but it is not exempt from the risks and possible complications that are inherent to any surgery. In this article, we cover the risks and rare complications of breast augmentation and breast implant surgery.
Capsular contracture
Among the complications associated with Michigan breast augmentation surgery, perhaps the most frequent is the so-called “capsular contracture” effect. The capsule is a fibrous tissue that the body forms naturally around the implant. This tissue is beneficial if its formation is correctly directed, because it acts as a support or “internal bra”.
The capsules that generate abundant fibrous tissue (grades III and IV) can cause breast deformity and pain, therefore they should be treated almost always surgically. This occurs in a very low percentage of breast implant patients (approximately 1% -2%) and occurs due to the contraction of the “pocket” that forms around the implant.
When the capsular contracture is repetitive it can force the implant to be removed permanently. To adequately solve a severe capsular contracture it is necessary to remove the implant and remove all capsular tissue if possible. Although it is not mandatory, it is advisable to place new implants.
Capsules too soft (Grade 0) are equally problematic as they will be unable to support the weight of the implant, causing the breast to fall uncontrollably and accelerated over the months or years. Some incipient encapsulations can be treated with a medicine called Accolate® (Zafirlukast). This medicine, used for the control of asthmatic processes, does not have among its authorized uses the treatment of encapsulations, but several studies have casually shown that it is useful in these cases.
Breast cancer
To this day, no study has shown a correlation between breast implants and cancer or that they delay its correct diagnosis. However, it is necessary that when you undergo a radiological control of the breast (mammography) inform the radiologist that you have breast implants, since the study and its interpretation may be difficult in these situations.
Rarely, implant ruptures have been reported due to improperly performed mammograms. Mammography and/or ultrasounds prior to the operation are recommended to control future explorations.
Recently, a new pathology associated with breast implants MI called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma has been described. It is a rare form of lymphoma (a neoplasm originated in lymphocytes) that in its form associated with breast implants, manifests itself as a late inflammation (one year after the operation) of one or both breasts caused by the generation of a seroma (accumulation of serum inside the “pocket” that contains the implant).
It is estimated that the incidence of this disease is 1 in 300,000 patients and there are currently around 250 documented cases worldwide. The diagnosis of this pathology is usually simple and the treatment is curative in the vast majority of cases if the implants and the capsule that surrounds them are removed. Your Michigan breast reconstruction surgeon will have to remove your implants in this case.
Changes in breast tenderness
Although it should not be considered a complication, some women may notice changes in the sensitivity of the nipples or other areas of the breasts. These symptoms usually disappear in a short time and very rarely are permanent. There is no evidence that the presence of a breast implant affects fertility or gestation. It is important to keep in mind that if you have a pregnancy after surgery, your breasts may suffer changes in size and silhouette.
You should also bear in mind that any breast that is operated on may have an altered ability to produce milk. Often, patients wait until they no longer expect to bear children before having breast implants. Along with this surgery, they often combine it with a Michigan abdominoplasty and Michigan laser liposuction treatment for what is known as a mommy makeover, a popular cosmetic procedure in Michigan.
Rupture of the implant
Occasionally, and generally, derived from accidents, breast implants can break or tear. If this happens, a second intervention will be necessary to remove or replace them. At present, the high cohesion of silicone gels prevents spillage in the event of a rupture, which provides greater safety for the patient. The detection of a broken implant during the rhino postoperative period does not constitute a medical emergency, but it is advisable to treat it as soon as possible to replace it with a new one.
Regarding the time that breast implants last, there is no unanimous opinion due to numerous factors, among others the rapid development in implant manufacturing technology. As an empirical rule, it is advisable to perform a thorough exploration (including mammography, magnetic resonance and/or CAT scan) or to consider a replacement after fourteen years. How you can understand these data varies depending on the material of the implant and the Michigan plastic surgery patients opinion and decisions.
Other risks
As in any surgery, problems may arise due to excessive bleeding or infection of the implant, both circumstances may require urgent surgical interventions to solve them.
You should not be frightened by everything indicated in this article since they are very infrequent and controllable situations, especially if the surgery is performed by experienced surgeons such as those who work with SurgeonGate.
