On Thursday, November 20, 2014, Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara visited with forensics scholars at UASCS. Mr. McNamara talked about how he received his undergraduate education from Syracuse University and Utica College. He went to Vermont Law School for his law degree and worked many different jobs before becoming a member of the District Attorney's Office. Mr. McNamara also discussed the prosecution of criminals in some of his more notable cases. Mr. McNamara expressed that he felt part of the reason he was voted District Attorney (a position that lasts four years) was because of his involvement in freeing Steven Barnes from prison. Barnes had been wrongfully imprisoned for 19 years when McNamara agreed to re-visit the case with modern-day DNA testing techniques. Mr. McNamara is also responsible for starting the area's Economic Crime Unit, which investigates identity theft, economic crime, unemployment fraud, and welfare fraud.
On Friday, October 12, 2018, seventh-grade #UASAtoms attended the Manufacturing Day at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. According to a Deloitte analysis done in 2015, based upon data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Gallup Survey, over the next decade, nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will be needed and it is expected that 2 million will go unfilled due to the skills gap. At the #UASCS, we believe in preparing our scholars for their futures. Exposing our students to potential career opportunities at a young age is simply one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
