Day 284 of 365 (Year Two)

We watched an episode of Batman today and Poe got all excited thinking he had the perfect Halloween costume. I fell asleep and when I woke up he had done this to us. I'm not entirely sure how he did it, but I'm hoping he can undo it! I explained to him/me that he couldn't use me as part of his costume.

Cutting through Volunteer Park I ran into a cosplay rave.

Very friendly and colorful young folks. They were happy to chat and let me take pictures.

A print from a glass negative from about 1890. We only recently started to print these amazing Victorian photographs and have been researching their origin.

Each of the strollers in this photo holds four children... unfortunately, I didn't have my camera ready until they were far down the sidewalk.

Victory of Bahram II (274-94)

This relief carved below the tomb of Darius the Great shows in a double register two victories of Bahram II, The King wears a crown adorned by an eagle's wing (the eagle was the bird of Bahram, god of warriors), and in the upper panel gallops towards a mounted enemy and unhorse him with a long spear. His standard bearer (not well defined) follows, carrying a flag (perhaps the red war banner described by Ammianus Marcellinus) consisting of a foe surmounted by a horizontal bar adorned with three globes and two hanging tassel. A second foe (possibly a Roman) is fallen under Bahram's horse. The King's horse is magnificently equipped, and large conical tassel fall from the saddle and the harness is elaborate. The king himself carries a long quiver on his left thigh. The lower register depicts a similar equestrian combat: Bahram II charges a mounted foe with a long lance while trampling another enemy under his horse.

Susan Noya and Susan Harvey (incoming president) of the Junior League of York volunteered time for the event for which their organization provided grant money.

Looking through my PhotoStream, I noticed that I didn't have anything form the D200 posted. So I went back and pulled out some of my favorites. This is the first of those images.

My wife and I spent the afternoon in the butterfly house of AMNH. We had a blast and got some pretty nice images to boot.
