A flock of Canada Geese flying low over the ocean while one of their flock attempts to catch up.

Canada Geese are commonly seen all over these days, but did you know in the early 1900's their numbers had been decimated due to habitat loss and hunting. Today there are more than 5 million Canada Geese across North America thanks to conservation efforts and regulations.

3-shot HDR, shot with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G lens, and combined in Photomatix before being processed in GIMP and Photoscape.

For those of you still working it out, it's an inverted reflection from the canal in Cromford, Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District.

Trying out a new computer and software.

Jumping in style needs some practice

Having tried this shot earlier in the year, but only managing to bag a DMU, I returned hoping to snap the lunchtime cement and with fingers crossed the sun would play ball.

As luck would have it it did and seen glinting in the winter sunlight Freightliner Shed 66620 accelerates away from Chinley East Junction on the climb to Cowburn Tunnel with the 11.49 Tunstead - West Thurrock (6L89).

In the near foreground is Malcoff Farm, and the hill in shadow about 3 miles distant is Eccles Pike rising to about 360m - itself not a bad vantage point for trains along the Goyt Valley.

What a cool scene I sensed here as I turned the corner first. As always, the people were helpful and so very nice. Many are rather curious, or let's put it this way, they pretend to be curious. (¬‿¬)

The composition was already clear to me, as I had already been here the day before and was able to memorize my position well. This photo is perhaps a little more sombre, but on closer inspection, the joy and colors here have by no means disappeared. Because these details, joy and color will always be part of my photos.

I love her art Hania Rani so young and so talented. The song Glass the video ♫ was recorded in Berlin and many sequences were shot in the district where I grew up. Speaking of Berlin, I may soon have something completely new from Berlin in terms of photography. But will that be something for Flickr? I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I won't have much time to share photos anytime soon, but I'll try to keep an eye on your excellent work.

Queen of the Damned-Not Meant For Me

Trying to find public spaces to take skyline shots in Dubai lead to finding Level 43 lounge in Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road.

Buy a drink and take some shots from this open-to-the-sky area. A fairly small lounge so not somewhere where you can setup a tripod so this was handheld.

You can see Burj Khalifa in the background... it doesn't look high due to perspective but is double the height of the other buildings!

Dear Flickr Friends, after a two Weeks Holiday I am back and try to catch up with all the wonderful new photos uploaded during the Past.

This Purple Gallinule was in the tall grass checking out what was going on around him.

Tried to make one of those super dynamic shots people do, I think I sorta got it, it's something I'll come back to later.

With the Delaware Water Gap looming in the background, the crew of Conrail train UPS continues to the Portland Diner to get a bite to eat. I was out with a friend, and we decided to follow UPS when we saw it in Bethlehem. Somewhere along the way, we ran into the late Walter Schopp, who was also following UPS. We caravanned all the way to Portland, and when we completed this shot, Walter, who was a tall, large-framed man that never missed a diner or mom-and-pop restaurant, suggested that we try the diner. He and I both decided on peach pie, and I asked for it to be heated on the grill with a scoop of ice cream. Walter followed my lead, and until the last time that I saw him, he always suggested taking a trip to Portland for pie.

I had heard about a technique quite a while ago and I have been meaning to try it one day, it consists of taking an object, photographing it multiple times all around it and then blending the layers in varying opacity in photoshop.

This is my first attempt - 12 photos taken around this nice little pot of lavender, blended in PS. I've then added some textures to finish the look. The left-hand image is my base image or starting point as a comparison.

The technique can be used on outdoor objects as well like trees, statues, fountains, buildings etc, etc...
