Panorama of the pyramids on the Giza plateau. The ground was still a little wet due to bad weather earlier in the week. The absence of tourists was an unrealistic dream of mine that came true!

The railfan coveted three scheme lashup is a true treat and quite the rare event on the Alaska Railroad. In the decade I lived in Alaska I can count on one hand the number of times I got to photograph it happening. By this late date there were only three GP40-2s in the old 1970s black and gold scheme with the rest of the fleet wearing the current 'Baby Mac' paint and the only units left liveried in the 1980s 'Alaska Bold' scheme were GP38-2s that were mostly relegated to yard service in Anchorage and Fairbanks. But once in a while one would get out on the road such as happened on this picture perfect late winter day.

The geep trio are leading a 120N from Whittier to Anchorage seen emerging from the north end of the 13,338 ft long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel at MP F5.6 on the Alaska Railroad's Whittier Branch.

The tunnel which is the only land based access to the important port community of Whittier on Prince William Sound is a marvel of engineering. Originally built by the US Army and opened in 1943 it was converted to dual use more than two decades ago and is the longest shared highway/rail tunnel in North America and is essentially a 2.5 mile long grade crossing.

For those of you interested in learning more about this fascinating tunnel click here to visit the Alaska state DOT's official web site on the tunnel:

TS Elliot said that, "April is the cruellest month." Well, if that is true, then, since October is as far away from April as you can get, October must be the kindest month. I agree. October is, by far, my favorite time of year. The beauty of the trees, the coolness and crispness of the air, the fragrance of burning leaves....you can't get better than that. Did I mention pumpkin pie? Well I should have.

With the light behind, you can't see what's in front of it. The sun creates the illusion that light keeps us safe, that there's no darkness. That's never true.

Unbelievable but true . . . I was in the yard taking photos of birds when all of a sudden all the birds (about 50, mostly sparrows) disappeared. I thought there might be a hawk nearby so I started to look around. Low and behold only about ten feet to my right was this huge hawk perched on my birdbath!

It did not notice me until it heard the click of the camera shutter. It was gone in an instant.

Then I started worrying that it was too close and closer than the minimum focus distance of my lens. I was pleasantly surprised to find nice sharp close-up photos of this hawk. Now I’m off to check my guide books to try and ID it! Hooray!

Update: Its an Immature Cooper's Hawk!!! It was huge! Thanks to Stylurus (Darrin) for the ID help!

this sign in jeffersonville sums up my feelings about our president and those planning to run. i think anyone that 'wants' to be president is the last person we should allow to be president.

My life, my home, my calm, my patience, my happiness, my love, my whole life... What you are and represent to me, there are many more things, but I will stay with the repeated cliché but with the true feeling I feel for you and I thank you for existing and bumping into my life, I love you <3

Time and exposure turn utilitarian, industrial surfaces into emblazoned, compellingly regal art.

True love is like a ghost, everyone speaks of it, but few have seen it.

First I got an IM about the placement of an artwork

...so far so good I found a solution for that...

Second I got an IM why I am doing this show...

ok, I answered to explain what my intention was...

Third I got an IM..."why did you placed a tip jar"....

A tip jar? Ok, I explained why we placed it...

NO answer from the other side...

I deceided to remove the tip jar immediately and

jumped over to the gallery...

Just arrived a friend told me that he received a mail

about "that" tip jar some time ago and within

seconds a small group of persons rezzed in front of

me. I looked directly into the face of Shoshana...

I felt like an accused person in my own gallery...

It was a very sad moment ...

We worked day after day for this show.

Our intention was to bring all these great

artists together. We payed all items from our

private money and that was much more as donated

from our artists and friends.

And after all these "somebody" tells you that you only

want to "make money" with the work of others...

What kind of friendly and peaceful Second Life is that?

*looks sadly around and can´t find an answer*

A pretty dramatically reworked version of an old photo.

"A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety." --Ansel Adams
