I always thought tulips were from the Netherlands. That seems not accurate. From ProFlowers.com:
The tulip originated centuries ago in Persia and Turkey, where it played a significant role in the art and culture of the time. Most likely commenting on the Turkish tradition of wearing tulips in one's turban, Europeans mistakenly gave tulips their name, which comes from the Persian word meaning turban. The Sherwood Forest Faire is a smallish Renaissance Festival about 40 miles SE of Austin. Despite its size, it is a great event - excellent entertainment and a lot of cool people to shoot. These photos are from the last weekend of the 2014 season - it was a great day for the performers and visitors but very bad for photographers - very sunny; lots of harsh shadows and dappled lighting. Despite that, it was a great day - and I can't wait for the 2015 season!
