One of our group's ion traps hasn't trapped ions at all yet. The last thing on my troubleshooting checklist is eliminating any low-frequency noise out of our high power radio frequency amplifier that could tickle and heat ions through secular motion.
Hence, this high-pass filter. It's an aggressive 7-pole Chebyshev filter, designed with the tools that come with the venerable ARRL handbook.
Two rf circuit tricks I employed: rotation of each successive inductor, and placement of grounded copper-board 'wedges' between stages to reduce cross-coupling.
The results were great. I wanted to pass 5.6 MHz and above with very little loss but murder everything below 2 MHz. The measured loss at 5.6 MHz is 1 dB, or about 20%, while the attenuation at 1 MHz is 76 dB, or < 0.00001 %.
Update: Liverpool now traps, after months of frustration!! But the filter wasn't the key because it now traps without it. The mystery continues.
217: As you can see the 256 screw heads don’t quite fit inside the 4mm bezels, so I’m going to turn the heads down a bit in order to have plenty of room to accommodate the bezels sitting over them. The 5mm bezels are already big enough to accommodate the screw heads, so no adjustments need to be needed to the screws that will be under the 5mm stones as far as width goes (they may later need to be modified in height)

Stainless Steel Capillary Tube Description:
Whether you need to exchange device tubing as a section of your troubleshooting or want to minimize the dwell extent of your system as you pass to narrower columns, WENZHOU HUASHANG STEEL CO., LTD. has the first-rate tubing in the lengths. Tubing is precision cut, resulting in clean, square-cut ends besides ovality. This steel capillary tube also features lean and easy floor finish.
Capillary Tubing from WENZHOU HUASHANG STEEL CO., LTD. owns the following features as good flexibility, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, tensile strength, water resistance, etc. For the capillary tube, the minimum size is up to 0.19mm and minimum thickness is 0.02mm, and our tolerance is very small. One of bright annealing advantages is that all bright annealed techniques makes a clean inner surface. High finish, no oil or grease particles ensure the optimal and uniform flow of liquids and gases from the sensor to the measuring instrument.
The stainless steel capillary tube has good corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, anti-wear, anti-pilling and good flexibility and other functions. It can also shield electromagnetic properties and be bent freely to form a wide variety of bending angles. The stainless steel capillary tube can be kept from deforming regardless of the rotation to each angle, bring convenient for our daily life.
Stainless steel capillary tube produces a radiation-resistant alloy steel in the air. Because of its aesthetically pleasing surface and good corrosion properties, the stainless steel capillary tube doesn't require color plating. In order to ensure the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel capillary, it is necessary to select a steel containing more than 12% chromium when selecting the steel.

Yea !!!! After a long weekend of troubleshooting my computer, and much frustration, I finally got my new Pakon F-235 Plus scanner working !!!! The key fix was installing a USB 2.0 PCI board on my computer, even though I already had USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard. Apparently, they have changed the USB chipsets ever so slightly since 2006 or so, and older devices may have trouble using the new chipsets. Solution: get a backwards compatible USB 2.0 PCI board.
This thing Rocks compared to my other scanners. MUCH faster, with good colors, and little fuss. Just feed in the negatives and away it goes. Took about a minute to scan 4 frames at 6MP resolution with ICE infrared dust removal enabled. Here is a sample from my first run. No preview scans needed, no option setting, no cropping, nothing but fast and effortless scanning! After the scan is completed, you can preview and edit any images as you desire. This image is what I got direct from the scanner, with no tweaks or adjustments. Finally, film scanning as quick and easy as digital ! And in particular, Negative Film scanning that is quick and simple, without needing to play around trying to get the colors right.

175: You can see that after cutting, there is a sharp end; this will not go into a threaded hole so the ends need to be re-shaped.
146: I’m now going to line up a center punch on the crosshairs, knock the top of the punch lightly with a rawhide or plastic mallet, and therefore register a mark for drilling my holes.
Yup, it's a bad motor or associated brushes etc...luckily there's a 25 year warranty on it.
It's still quite usable, just a little on the noisy side & getting worse for the past week or so.
Susy & I have put quite a few miles on it, part of our regular routine & we are so much healthier for it even though it can be quite a struggle to get on there some days! :0)
More will be known tomorrow once the repair depot opens up for business.

84: The rough edge left by the band saw after cutting and "bouging": using the teeth of the saw blade like a file: the edges of the metal are kept perpendicular to the saw blade and the piece is moved along so that the saw blade teeth file away the big roughness and even things out a bit.
106: I'll now go back and lightly sand the handle core with some fine sandpaper to remove any lingering burs or tape residue.
75: Again, in order that the drawing lies flat, I must also avoid the protruding screw heads, so I am just cutting out some of the paper with an X-Acto blade to clear the screws.
This is an actual photo I had to go back and take, because I knew no one would believe me. I work on air conditioning units, but this is a completely new concept in troubleshooting.
Suddenly the computer goes haywire with malware and pop-ups. Formatting and reinstalling XP doesn't help. I have to literally kill the disk to bring my computer back to life.
I was on the verge of tossing it through a window. I think it's time to consider visiting the Apple store. :)
Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) in the IVF laboratory play an important role in the success of any IVF program. The role of QC procedures in the IVF laboratory is to fine tune existing protocols in order to more effectively help infertile patients in their quest to have a healthy baby
73: I have cut out a full drawing of the overall knife; this will be used to help shape the profile to as exact as possible. You can see the paper is a little oversized in the blade area; I placed the rough blade stock onto the paper and traced its current profile. This will help reference the proper placement of the drawing on the assembly. I am applying "permanent" double stick tape to the front flat surface of the assembly, careful not to overlap the tape or the screws.
82: Continuing to hack out the circular rear opening on the band saw. By using small directional changes, I am able to slowly remove enough material so that I can eventually get the band saw blade into the rough center of the area. Now that I have a little room for mobility, I can come at it from different angles.

76: After carefully aligning and pressing the drawing firmly in place, I am coating the entire assembly with a wide strip of clear packing tape. This will help preserve the drawing, as well as keep dust and metal from sticking to the exposed areas of the double stick tape, which would otherwise get in the way while I'm working. I find it also helps lubricate the blade when cutting.

During a flight, the left flap and the right aileron were moving on their own without any input from the radio transmitter. The Radio Control pilot was able to get the plane back on the ground without crashing it. We found a bad order Y electrical cable that ran from the on-board receiver to the wings.

In 2011, I traveled to Reynolds Creek seven times in seven months searching for tracer stones that went far beyond expected (steep mountains have a lot of power!) and troubleshooting electrical equipment. As the seasons turned from hot summers with rainbows in blue bird skies to freezing rain to snow, the walks turned lonely and I pushed back the unsettling thought that I could still be walking downstream after Thanksgiving, maybe even into the mighty Snake River. But, one of the last walks I did in November 2011 remains the most stunning- quiet snow dampened morning expanded my senses- the dry, cold air, smelling the damp wool of field clothes, a frozen snake, water icicles on the edge of the banks, and all is quiet except the slow and steady crunch of my boots cracking the thin stream ice, hearing the water splash up in response only to lap the nearby ice followed by the low rumble of rocks shifting under my feet as I move downstream.
Artist bio: Lindsay is a PhD student in geomorphology with a background in civil and environmental engineering as well as dash of aquatic ecology. She arrived in Reynolds Creek, a small mountain stream in southwest Idaho, to do a ~300 ft erosion project with tracer rocks, i.e. real and concrete cobbles that she made and tagged with RFID tags (same as pet microchips). Lindsay installed the stones then find them again after floods. After snowmelts inundated the stream, her short stretch extended into an epic and enchanting ~10 mile journey- up and over cascading boulders and through ancient basalt canyons. During many weeks slowly walking and swiping my tag antenna, she found the tracers but was even more fascinated by the many surreal, natural installations along her path.
I've been having Wireless issues around the house so recabled/positioned everything. This was the stress test.
The setup is this:
ADSL (10MBit) -cabled-> Time Capsule -wifi-> Airport Extreme -wifi-> this computer.
The Windows screen is RDP to my Windows box in the house which is in another location but connected to the Airport Extreme.
The Time Capsule is also being used by the iMac at the time this was happening.
The files which are being copied are travelling from my MacBook to a Hard Disk shared from the Time Capsule.
