A Dark-eyed Junco on a chilly day early in the year. There was snow on the ground still, if not on the branches.
I must admit to missing my time on Flickr. I'm popping in and taking a break from photo organizing, troubleshooting (as mentioned in the previous upload), and promise keeping, to catch up briefly on the wonderful shots of yours I have been missing.
Please don't use this image on websites, blogs, etc. without my permission.
After two days of being locked out of Yahoo/Flickr, and having the good fortune to receive precise troubleshooting instructions from some good samaritan at Mozilla Firefox that even I could follow, I return to find Flickr with even more problems. Remarkable that no one seems to be addressing them anymore. At least I haven't lost what has become a 10 year photo project....for now.
The other good news is that the ridiculous cold has finally gone and we are enjoying a week near or above the freezing mark which is more than comfortable and welcome indeed.
Hello my lovely gentleladies and gentlelords,
it's been a while since I uploaded a picture but I haven't forgotten about you. I hope you'll enjoy this blog post! (*´▽`*)
Dura created new hair for us! This time it's a unisex hair, that comes in three different bang options and will be available at the Man Cave Event - starting on the 17th of July. I love how this hair turned out and how many fine strands it has! Truly stunning. I can't help but to admire Chiaki's work over and over. I'll include a raw preview for you • here •. Feel free to try the demo inworld!
I decided to try another head and skin combo for this picture. I'll share it in the credits below - I hope you guys like it!
Before we continue with the credits, I want to give a huge thanks to Bartazor from Rezz Room for sharing these uber amazing dragons with me, to Dahvie Gloom, for his hard work and these stunning eyes. I'm truly in love with the blue version! (✧ω✧), Eliavah, who recently decided to support the male community with her amazeball skills! Thank you for this outstanding outfit! Chiaki-sensei, for her continuous hard work for unique and amazing hair! ♡ Last but not least I want to give a shout-out and big thanks to Zara and Cerb who helped me with troubleshooting while taking this picture and listened to me whine xD
You guys are amazing!

12/365: I'm knitting a baby blanket, the pattern is not as easy as it looked and I have undone it a few times. Luckily I have a friend who is an expert at knitting and she came round to do some troubleshooting. I only have a few weeks to finish it as the baby is due in February. The baby in question will be my first grandchild, needless to say I am very excited and can't think why I have taken on a 365 when I am going to be busier than ever.

Toned kallitype on Hahnemühle Platinum Rag.
Dig neg from original file in July 2014.
Sodium Citrate developer with a touch of Potassium Dichromate, prefix toned in Clerc's Thiourea-Gold toner and fixed in Moersch ATS alkaline fixer.

Clerc still wants to eat the highlight details in kallitypes developed in this way (doesn't seem to happen with Sodium Acetate), don't know why but next troubleshooting step will be Sodium Citrate without adding Potassium Dichromate...
This capture was a little troubleshooting for me, the day was grey...Low light and a distance far from me, so I have to push the ISO at high levei to suport the 5.6 apperture and a confortably. high velocity to a 300 mm lens.....but I like the result in colors!
Well, things have been crazy for me here. I've been finding, interviewing, hiring, training, and troubleshooting a team of caregivers for my sister, Ellen, who has Alzheimers, End-stage kidney disease, and heart failure. Ellen lives about 1,500 miles from me.
Just to give you an idea of what sort of month it has been, and why it has been difficult for me to find Flickr time, or photography time (or for that matter... grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning, showering, piano playing or outside chores time), here is what my phone company reported about the past 30 day's phone usage for me:
Texts 6,197
Calls 1,575
Anyway, the caregivers are mostly in place now, and though I still take many calls a day, it is nothing like it was. So, today, I have had a chance to breathe.
A few days ago I was cutting up a pepper and I forgot to take the center out first. I was struck by the cross section of the colorful pepper, so I decided to photograph it.
Today I was finally able to get some Flickr time, so here is that cross-section photo.
I have kept up with all your photos, whether I commented or not. You all have brought needed light into my life, and I thank you all for your artistic genius, your traveling, your birdwatching, your light and colors!
Almost spring! (Or autumn for the Southern Hemisphere)
Lately, CSX has been sending through some old school bangers as leaders on the Toledo Subdivision. Annoyingly, they usually passed through while I was at work, as is customary.
Word came in on August 21 that southbound Q507-21 would consist of an SD40-2 leader, 8367. Hey, a standard cab is a standard cab, take what you can get, right? Thanks to an early release from work, I grabbed my gear from home and made a B line to Tipp City, where the shot took place.
I was pleased, but I had hoped to chase this train to downtown Dayton for one more shot before heading home for the evening, and so did a number of other railfans out that day. About 5 miles south of here, the lead motor took a shit. It wasn't loading, like, at all. A call to LA mentioned they would need to bring this train to a stop to troubleshoot. This day's Q507 was shy of 13,000ft, so the only place to park it was in Vandallia. After about 30-45 minutes of troubleshooting with no success, and with daylight at prime time, CSX mechanical was dispatched from Cincinnati to assist.
ETA...2 hours.
Mission failed, we'll get em next time.
My trip to Antalya to do some troubleshooting for Turkish Airlines on their A330 fleet ended up with my spare day not needed, hence a trip to see Duden Waterfalls. These are the Upper falls, about 9km North of Antalya centre.

Union Pacific's familiar armor yellow colors pierce the flocked snow and fog blanketing the central Illinois landscape so achromatic, consequences of an early year winter storm that dropped several inches of snow onto trees already primed with a layer of ice. As per the convention of modern class I operating practices, UP runs 'em long--this City of Industry to Global 4 hotshot (ZCIG4 02) has 13,253 feet-worth of intermodal boxes trailing out behind the five forward facing widecabs guiding the journey down Edelstein Hill towards Chicagoland, utilizing trackage rights over the Transcon east of Kansas City granted in the BNSF merger. This Z faces a quagmire less than 20 miles ahead, where prolonged signal problems have the Chillicothe Subdivision plagued with disruption and delay. Track indications on both mains have dispatchers flagging trains between Wilbern and Toluca and a signal maintainer troubleshooting on Track 1 in the same limits, creating a single-track bottleneck that will hamper operations until the maintainers have the problem rectified, relief that will ultimately come well after darkness falls.

We've been waiting on a few details but at last the bathroom renovation is officially finished! We didn't replace the tub which is avocado green so that set the accent color. The vanity top (spalted maple with a few ambrosia tracks) was sourced from a local saw mill. The front and side are 40-50 year old white and red oak fence rails that came from the horse paddock. We replaced some of the older ones and I picked out a few that we planed and processed for the project. I kept the wood natural except for the green stain which is very hard to find. Marybeth and I did all the work and I'm happy to report we're still together although now all I'm hearing is how shabby the bathroom off our bedroom looks.
BTW: My monitor developed a dead line running through the screen so I went out and bought a new one (Dell U2723QE). For some unexplained reason I'm having a bit of difficulty viewing images in Photoshop. I can makes image adjustments in ACR but when I import the image to PS, the white balance seems to shift a bit, making it extremely difficult to get the whites perfect. I've tried every combination of setting, cables, etc., all drivers are up to date and I've even removed and reloaded PS all to no avail! I can hook up the monitor to my laptop and everything is perfect. Only viewing an image in PS seems to be affected and troubleshooting has been very, very frustrating. I now believe that the issue lies in the older Geforce RTX 2070 Super video processor and I'm working to replace it, we'll see. Anyway, I was going to hold off posting this but I was able to get the colors pretty close.
Life has been fairly busy the last little while, however I'm currently baching it up, while my wife and kids are visiting family in NB. This has allowed me a bit more time to get out, and last week after dropping everyone off was a good way to kick off a long-awaited chase. I was joined by fellow Flickr'er and friend Matt Landry at most of the locations as we chased NBSR 907 from Saint John to the border. The sun prevailed more oft than the pesky clouds, and this location was a prime example of just that. Drawing four properly painted six axles for power, the crew of NBSR 907 wastes no time coming into Hoyt, approaching Fredericton Jct. Upon arrival at Welsford, the crew called the Yard Planner in SJ to notify him of 8144 crapping the bed, even though it was fresh out of the shop, and thus immediately gained the nickname of a paperweight. I think at some point later throughout the trip with much troubleshooting, the crew did eventually get 8144 running again.

ENJOY!!! and thanks for looking.
It's time to sit down with Wick and listen to them ramble a little. Here goes.
I started posting pictures on Flickr as a way to catalogue my art and to "save" some pictures I'd taken for photo contests or for pure recreation. Then I started blogging!
I didn't expect it to get to this point, didn't expect to amass a modest, but incredibly flattering following-- all of you! And it's going to sound VERY sappy of me to say this, but it really does matter a great deal to me that over 500 of you have decided that you like my art enough to keep it in your feed, enough to follow me. I don't like thinking about numbers, because I think, for me, it tends to lead to comparisons and ultimately, a devaluing of the number that I DO have.
To fellow bloggers, thank you so much for the artistic inspiration you give me-- you all have new ideas that I NEVER would've come up with on my own, and I hope that what I say is taken in good faith-- you're all an inspiration and I learn from you all every time I scroll through my Flickr feed.
To the creators that I blog for, thank you for welcoming me into your team. You took a chance on me, and I know that's never an easy choice; every new picture is a new adventure, and for creators, that adventure is an unknown until they see it for themselves. Thank you for letting me take you all on my adventures with me!
To my friends who have helped me with tips, tricks, troubleshooting, and co-modeling-- thank you! Many of you have given me tools and advice that have helped me IMMENSELY in my growth as a virtual photography hobbyist.
To my followers as a whole-- thank you. Your views, likes, and comments really do keep me going. You make my work worth it.
I want to keep growing, and having you all at my back, by my side, really does help me with each step forward that I take.
OK, rant over. Best of days, weeks, months, years, decades to you all.
I got pulled into a troubleshooting call at 10 pm and it could go for hours into the early morning, so I had to improvise a picture of the day. These are the Lego spaceships that occupy various spots on my home desk.
Played with the macro lens a bit yesterday. Got lots going on around here and there's pics to be taken too!! LOL. Who knew life could be so busy when you're retired?!!
And I'm behind on commented on YOUR pics. Debating whether to fave now, comment later or leave it all to do at once. I'm choosing the latter right now. I want to fully appreciate your pics!! :-)
And just got a new Mac laptop! :-) Have to set it all up, right after this.
And I'm still working on why my current laptop crashes. Email crashes, Photos app crashes (the one I use!!!) and here & there the whole thing just reboots!! That's why I bought the new one. I'll start using that, then keep troubleshooting this one until it's fixed. :-)
Whew!! Another long story. I'll be happy when my life is simple again.
Hope you enjoy your day!! :-)

It took much effort, but I'm super happy that was able to build, photograph, and upload this before The Force Awakens movie premiers. Yay.
Gosh, I love the profile of this thing - that cockpit curvature is sexy. =P I should post a work-in-progress picture just to show how far this thing has come. Difficulties included troubleshooting the engine split, creating working S-foil wings, to discovering that a rubber band could be used for the blue streak, all while keeping this darn small at 1x stud wide for the nose. It was hard, but I'm proud of the finished product, and it's super swooshable, as you can see in the beginning of the video linked below. Enjoy!
Link me if you build one! Would love to see how others improve on the fragile connections.
I-168 getting ready to blast off EB except PTC won't work. Crew called the PTC desk and they immediately said it's a mechanical issue and call the mechanical desk. Then after troubleshooting it with mech dept. They concluded it was an PTC issue, and told the crew to call the PTC desk. It doesn't get any better than this. Wylie command finally told them to take the power off and swap with other engines in the house track. 7 am departure became 11 am departure and they left Wylie World with two NS locomotives.

Seeing as this overnight circuit is currently in the hands of Class 66s, here is a shot from the second week of the season. 37419 "Driver Tony Kay" sits at Low Moor during a crew change working a very late 3S23 23.10 Hall Royd Jn - Leeds, with 37422 "Victorious" on the rear.
This night went far from smoothly, as the set later developed issues and was sent back to York early following a lengthy "troubleshooting" stop at Halifax.

Most people mistake professional business consultancy as a troubleshooting exercise that a company undertakes to manage crisis. Even the business owners, especially the small and relatively inexperienced ones, have similar notions and avail of their services only in cases where management looses control. However, services offered by professional consultants need not be bound by such limitations. Business consultants, in fact, are third party experts who influence how businesses, as well as governments and institutions make decisions.

This was a comically frustrating train to shoot. This was one of the two coal empties that sat in the Ottumwa yard waiting on crews to show up. This was the second to leave, and was the better one as all 6 motors were up front and there was a 70MAC in consist that I make a point of nabbing these days.
Anyway, when it was finally ready to leave, it peeked around the corner and I hopped out of the car to take some photos. Everything seemed normal, but as I lined up my shot [with a different angle and a different lens] it stopped right here. I've seen them pull up to the signal and something go wrong with the PTC so they stop short on the bridge, but not like this.
Well, it turns out that the PTC thought it was on the wrong track so it applied the brakes... While it was sitting here, the engineer on the local [who is a bit of an impatient one] dialed up the CP dispatcher in a tiff. Their dispatcher was trying to reach the train [who was on a different channel] while the train was troubleshooting with the PTC desk. Longer story short, they figured it out after about 20 minutes and were on their way. If there's one thing I learned in my time working on the railroad, it's how to be patient...
A staged night shot at the East Syracuse Amtrak station on the evening of 5 November 1990. The Central New York Chapter NRHS owned, ex-PRR E8A unit, under restoration as Lackawanna 808, poses in a throwback scene. A younger version of me leans out of the cab, as Ron Vile "fuels" the 808, using a septic pumping hose borrowed from a Rohr turboliner! Lighting was provided by the late Tom Trencansky and others.
This picture is dedicated to railroader and preservation advocate Bob Harrison, who passed away this weekend. A former New York Central mechanic and electrician, Bob spent many an evening troubleshooting E-units on the fly, while heading up name trains like the Twentieth Century Limited. After retiring he lent his skills to restoring the chapter's units to operating condition, often riding along as on board mechanic during excursions, including old diesels like the 808 pictured and its mate 807, plus FP7 No. 637, and later assisting other operations like the Adirondack Scenic Railroad with their motive power. Rest in peace, old friend. Long May You Run....
uploaded as a public picture so presumably is in the people feed for followers ?
Currently, it seems, anything uploaded as private initially does not end up being seen in the feed that followers look at. Presumably some unintended consequence of a background change that had not been properly troubleshooted (should that be troubleshot!)
I much prefer to upload as private, then annotate descriptions/tags/map etc, then make it public. I wish Flickr was running a bit smoother & that when things go wrong, they would be able to fix them faster!

Just going through some old data and I came across this one that I captured on NOV 9 of 2015 using an Astro-Tech AT65 Quad Astrograph that had been returned to the manufacturer as faulty and then sent to me for troubleshooting, this is only 3 x 180 seconds each LRGB and using Optolong Filters. I found no issues with it in fact I was very impressed with the optics, a perfect combination using the very sensitive QHY23 Mono CCD

After an unbelievable amount of faffing and troubleshooting, balloons lit by Yongnuo (at minimum power for maximum speed), optically triggered by SB-24 (not suitable for use as main flash but was the only one that worked with the sensor) triggered by a DIY Arduiono sound sensor lashup when balloon popped. The River Darent rises from sandstone springs around Sevenoaks, Kent and to the west around Westerham. Flowing north, further chalk springs also contribute to the river as it makes its way towards Dartford, where it discharges into the Thames estuary.
The River Darent (and the neighbouring River Cray) are chalk streams, which are unique, globally-rare, freshwater habitats. There are only around 230 chalk streams in the world and we are lucky in the UK to be the custodians of about 80% of these. Chalk streams are fed by underground aquifers and as such are characterised by high water quality and, naturally, would maintain a strong base flow all year round.
This high-quality water also serves as a valuable water resource for drinking water abstraction in the South East and has been used for this purpose – increasingly so, since the turn of the century. Due to over-abstraction, low flow issues on the Darent and Cray became evident during the drought of 1976 and subsequent droughts of the 1990s when the river dried up altogether. These incidents prompted local action with the ‘Darent Action Plan’ which reduced groundwater abstraction. However, the River Darent is still suffering from significantly reduced flows and is still at risk of drying up completely in equivalent drought events.

I have been fighting with running skyrim on my PC for three years straight and after spending hundreds of dollars on a better video card and millions and millions of hours modding/tweaking/troubleshooting, I'm about to call it quits on Skyrim.
I have literally looked through every article there is on this game involving performance, followed every guide, tested every tweak. I know more now about Skyrim and it's flaws than I ever had anticipated, and after all that, yet another savegame has fallen to corruption only 20 hours in. I can't even try to comprehend what went wrong at this point. I stripped my game of all mods scripted and unscripted except for the unofficial patches, used what I presumed to be were safe ini tweaks, spent weeks looking for a performance enb and managed to get it stable after learning through months of trial and error with my enblocal to get it there. And after all this, once again, my game crashes everytime I load a new cell now. I have SMIM but everything is optimized and all textures are 1k only. I have looked at so many guides like step and through wikis and followed the specifications to the last nitty gritty detail, but regardless Skyrim won't work for me.
I so so wanted to really be immersed in this game, to be able to play a game I loved but would still look nice enough to feel immersive, but I don't think that is really possible anymore. I can run literally any other computer game out there with ultra graphics and no crashes. I make 6k illustrations for a living on photoshop with a thousand layers running smooth as silk, but no matter what I do I can't run Skyrim.
I'm not sure if this is really a request for help; I know others here on flickr have had similar situations and managed to (hopefully) get their game in order, but I'm not sure if I can even find it possible to try anymore. Just thinking of trying to play the game again is giving me anxiety.
Anyway, tldr; Verdant is as good as I can make it anyway, so I don't think my absence will be a big loss to the community, but I will still always feel bitterness towards this game, and towards my inability to do anything to fix it.
