Maresme's territory occupies a long and narrow area between the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Serralada Litoral (Catalonia's coastal mountains), and specifically Montnegre's and Corredor's hills in the northern half and Sant Mateu's hills in the southern half. This particular shape has conditioned both the geography and the history of this comarca. Probably the main distinct elements of its geography are the characteristic rieres (torrents). These short, intermittent water streams, which cross the comarca transversally almost every hundred meters, produce powerful and dangerous floods when it rains.
Canet des de els Tarongers
Maresme has been historically very well connected with the rest of the comarca as well as with Barcelona thanks to old Camí Ral (Royal Way) (actual N-II main road) and railroad (The Barcelona–Mataró railroad route, finished in 1848, was the first ever in all the Iberian Peninsula). Communications were enhanced in recent years with the construction of the C-32's Barcelona–Mataró section (1969), which was the first autopista (highway) ever in Spain, and its subsequent enlargement, the Mataró-Palafolls's section (1995).
. . . After hearing a loud thump on the back door tonight, I thought it might be an early Trick or Treater. Turns out it was a very small kid, in a fantastic costume! He looked a little dazed and confused, so I quickly grabbed a picture before he flew, er, I mean walked away. The best I could tell, he might of been disguised as a young Chipping Sparrow. And then he left without any candy . . .
Have a great week Facebook and Flickr friends!

Even though the Center for Disease Control recommended NO trick or treat this year, many people were determined to do it anyway. My neighborhood is especially fond of it, so I set up a table at the end of my walkway and sat a good 20 feet away. When there was a lull in activity I went and put more candy on the table.
This little pterodactyl lives across the street from me. He seemed very enthused about the whole activity this year. Last year he was clearly confused!
Enjoy all the photos, I know I'm posting a lot, there's no need to comment on each one!

The trick to making the headlamp is to insert a reflector behind a clear 1x2x3 panel and then wrap a custom structural sticker around the outside to hide the gap. This technique was used on Nathanial Brill's (Shuppiluliumas) Pennsylvania GG1s: flic.kr/p/chrdJu as advised by consulting engineer Cale Leiphart

Kit is dressed as her hero, Amelia Earheart, this Halloween. She is off trick or treating, but does not plan to stop at this house. Too spooky!
So glad I got another Halloween photo. I had to sneak this dio while my teen age nephew was outside. It is a sleepover and I keep this hobby on the down low. Have fun tonight. :)

RIcetto di Candelo
Ricetto (RECEPTUM)
One of the most meaningful and beautiful European Fortified Receptums
The fortified construction was orginally built as a village, and the building plan was dated 1160 a.d.
It was built by the people of Candelo from 1300 till the beginning of 1400 a.d.
It was used as a Receptum (a fortified place to hide) in times of war, and as a food storage location in times of peace
In this mediaeval village many movies have been filmed.

Nel cuore della Biella medievale
Qui sono state girate per esempio le puntatate della "Freccia Nera" 1 e 2, e molti altri film.
I Ricetti, originali, in Italia sono molto rari, piu' info le forniro' in seguito con le altre foto...

Using a cameraphone to view negatives ...
I've been meaning to write this trick up as a mini tutorial, but for now this little example will have to do.
Occassionally I'll be looking at a negative and want to get a quick feel for what it looks like. In the case of the image here, it was brought in by a visitor to the Who Do You Think You Are? Live show where I was working dating old photographs.
The trick is simple: on your cameraphone (or on most 'point and shoot' digital cameras) put the camera in 'negative' mode. This is often found in the 'options' or 'effects' menu. You'll see that the hand and all background objects (including the white sheet of paper it is being viewed against) now look odd, but the image itself is good enough for viewing.
