Still in the series of the tricks the light plays on us…
Again, the rocks on the right are exactly the same as the ones on the left side of the image (all of them are granite) The only difference being the sunlight reflected on the right side, whereas the area on the left is in the shadow. Incredible, right?
This early morning shot was taken at Serra da Estrela, Portugal’s mainland highest mountain. It was a very cold winter morning, crisp air, wonderful light.

Serra da Estrela (Star Mountain) is Portugal’s mainland highest mountain. At 1,993 metres at its highest point in Torre, Serra da Estrela is an area of rare landscape beauty. You can take advantage of the moments of communion with nature to discover the diversity of plants and birds and the flocks of sheep herded by Estrela dogs from the breed named after the mountain.
In cold weather, Serra da Estrela is the only place in Portugal where you can try ski, or go sledging, snowboarding or ride a snowmobile. Albeit small, there are several runs with support infrastructure, as well as artificial snow runs for skiing at any time of the year.
This natural park is excellent for trekking, horse-riding or mountain biking. It boasts some 375km of marked trails of varying degrees of difficulty.

This was one of my goals. To find and shoot a nice male in breeding plumage. He was the third goal of an epic day at Delaware State Forest, Pike County PA.

With the cooler weather I am starting to think about Halloween. This male American Redstart is wearing the colors of the season. Adult males are black with bright orange wings, tail, and sides. These little warblers are much smaller and more active than their black and orange counterparts, the Baltimore Orioles.
Laowa 2X Super Macro
These are 3" x 3" Post-It Notes that have been rolled in half and held together with a paper clip. The light source is a large window at the top left. The 3 main circle-top areas are less than 1.5" total width, so the estimated total width is less than 2.5" W. It's fun to turn the paper and adjust the camera to see numerous views of the same subject. Plus, the super macro lens allows me to get very close to the subject, and the depth-of-field is extremely shallow. This lens blurs the background at f/8.0 or less, but unfortunately doesn't record the depth-of-field in the EXIF data. I'm guessing this is f/4.0 or lower. I'm a rookie with this lens and have plenty to learn. But, I like that it allows me to think "outside the box". In other words, it's fun.
