Triangles on a glass candle jar

This is where Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet forming what is known as the Golden Triangle, mainly because of all the opium that passes through here on its way to foreign markets.

A triangle of glass marbles on a mirror.

It was sunset right after the Encore Melaka show but I didn't take get good pics of the fiery sunset or blue hour. Walked around the building and took this when the sky was already dark.

Started this a little while ago. Been busy and worked on it when I could. Jarus did a nice job on the character and made the wall come together nicely.

As a person who grew up in a big city i feel comfortable when I am in one. There's something very fascinating, from a photographic perspective about big cities. They are busy, the have people from all over the planet, they have character, old buildings, new buildings. Highways get mixed with bridges and parks, next to rivers or by the sea. Lights, triangles, shapes and lines in a chaotic harmony. Nature may not be a factor there but, our kind evolved in communities and big cities so it's part of who we are.

Limp Bizkit - My way (or the highway)

(lyrics may not be very relevant to the photo, however i like Limp Bizkit and I felt the title of the song was a good match!)

Here's another example of triangles as the main concept of composition. It's funny that if you start looking for it, you will find the mathematical shape of a triangle in nature surprisingly often.

Taracea (inlaid marquetry) is an artform brought from northern Africa to Granada by the Moors in 14th century. Long after the Catholic conquest of Granada it continued to be used to decorate religious artefacts, furniture and other items. It remains unique to Andalusia in Spain and there are just a handful of places still making and selling taracea (from the Arabic word 'tarci', to encrust) . These little drink coasters are quite simple with their geometric designs made of contrasting timbers. More elaborate taracea can be made of wood, bone, mother of pearl and in earlier times including ivory and tortoiseshell. I bought mine during a visit to Alhambra Palace. The image is less than 7cm (see image in comments).

- I did photograph a part of the lid of a crystal bonbonniere placed in front of the tetris light (see first comment) which caused the different colours on the different facets.

- An octagram is in geometry an eight-sided star polygon.

- Meaning of an eight-pointed star

The eight-pointed star, or octagram, has a variety of different meanings based on the interpretation of the culture or spiritual system that is using the symbol.

* From the Judeo-Christian perspective, the eight-pointed star represents new beginnings.

* However, the Babylonians believed an octagram represented the goddess Ishtar, who was associated with the planet Venus.

* The Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshimi, is represented by eight emanations, which are depicted as two intertwined squares that form an octagram. Each emanation, or point, of the octagram represents one of the following aspects of wealth: victory, patience, health, knowledge, nourishment, prosperity, mobility and monetary wealth.

* For the Egyptians, the eight-pointed star represented the eight deities known as the Ogdoad. The Egyptians believed that the Ogdoad, four female gods and four male gods, each represented a primal force or element such as water, air, darkness or infinity. Together, they created the world and the sun god Ra.

* Two overlapping squares, or an octagram, also represents duality. Each point of the square represents the four cardinal directions and the four elements: air, water, earth and fire. The top square of the octagram represents the positive aspects of the elements, and the bottom square represents the negative.

I almost always process in Photoshop, but this one was done in Lightroom - thanks RT for inspiring me to take the plunge!

Part of my enjoyment in my photo enthusiasm is in the post processing phase. I enjoy editing to get the image to look the way I feel it presents itself best. But at other times, and quite often I leave well enough alone and go SOOC.

Here I especially like how all the individual elements near and far create new interrelationships with one another when flattened upon the picture frame. Yes, all those poles, but here the water tower and traffic cone are a half mile away from each other, but in the shot they are buddies. Add in that tree and let's have a party. -- throw in a red reflector as the fulcrum and let's swing.

did someone say triangles?
