The first-of-class ship -- the first new U.S. aircraft carrier design in 40 years -- will spend several days conducting builder's sea trials, a comprehensive test of many of the ship's key systems and technologies."

Created in response to an adverse political climate, this sculpture aptly speaks to the opposing views that have engulfed our nation’s daily dialogue. Its “seeing eye” evokes the concepts of god, governance, and the Eye of Providence (the all-seeing eye found on the United States one-dollar bill).
In this commentary on society and government Larimore juxtaposes the rational grid of the wire glass with a cedar tree that represents nature and its unknown, uncontrolled course.

After the February trial was washed out due to rain, it was great to have a warm sunny day for our March Classic Trial in Canterbury, New Zealand. The event was rewarded with 29 riders attending on a range of classic and modern machines. Straightforward sections with just a couple of sections in the trees responsible for my points. Thanks Travis for letting us use your property. Great to see Trevor joining pre-65 on his BSA for the first time.

Normal, plain ole stir fry noodles and apple rabbits.
I called this the "trial bento" because it is the first one where I experimented the moistness of certain foods. I hated putting pretzels (etc) in a bento the night before and once removed from the fridge in the morning they would be slightly moist. So now I leave a container where I'll stick the pretzels open and throw them in at the morning...and they aren't mushy by lunchtime! :D
Parts of the original dock from Courtroom 600 as well as authentic audio and film recordings create a vivid impression of the court proceedings. On 20 November 1945 the Nuremberg Trials for the main perpetrators of the Nazi atrocities began in Courtroom 600 at the Palace of Justice. Twenty-one accused were called to Nuremberg to face trial for war crimes and crimes against peace and humanity.

U.S. Naval Academy (May 18, 2004) - A Midshipman grimaces as he and his squad lift a log above their heads as part of Sea Trials. The capstone event places fourth-class midshipmen in a physically and mentally demanding environment that instills in them the values of good leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. Sea Trials allows the fourth class to participate in a memorable and worthwhile event that teaches them much about their own abilities and limitations as well as the advantages of working as a team. I was updating their website and thought it might be nice to put a photo of the place on the front page. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my SD transfer adaptor, so I used an older photo. The next time I update the site, I'll probably put this one up.
Over in the Czech Republic, 64 players hit the pitch in Ostrava and Prague on the 24th and 26th of August with a chance of making it to the final Czech trials. In two days of relentless action and competition, 23 were selected to for the final trial on 22nd September.
Last weekend the motorcycle section of the Vintage Car Club of NZ ran a reliability trial and invited the Canterbury Classic Trials group to put on a demonstration and also take part in their event. The trials area also attracted members from the Vintage Club on suitable machines who tried the obstacles. These were largely man-made and included pallets (Thanks Palletmakers in ChCh), fence posts, tyres, a bank, tree stump, and logs. Due to the range of machines lined up for the reliability trial these sections were easier and included tight turns, tree roots, and banks. As well as trials bikes other contenders included trail bikes, 1970’s Vespa and Honda scooters, 1960's Royal Enfield and BMW motorcycles , 1937 Ariel, 1927 AJS, 1924 Triumph, as well as a Velosolex. A laid back and fun day mixing two groups both interested in classic motorcycles. Enjoy the photos.

Montesa is a Spanish motorcycle manufacturer that was founded in Barcelona during 1944 by Pedro Permanyer and Francisco Xavier "Paco" Bultó (founder of Bultaco in 1958).
Even though they have produced different kind of motorcycles (enduro, motocross, street, and road racing), Montesa is better known for their off road models and particularly for their observed trials models.
Nowadays, Montesa is owned by Honda Motorcycles.
The Christchurch classic trials group continues to grow and welcomed new riders to our September event at Waipara River, north of Christchurch. We headed out of town on a gray morning with light showers but things improved as we headed north. Luckily the weather improved so by the time we finished we were in warm sunshine. 43 riders signed on to ride a mixture of machines through 4 rounds of 9 sections. Entries included one sidechair which is always entertaining to watch.Air cooled bike being ridden included 11 Honda, 9 Yamaha, 8 Fantic, 4 Villiers including the rigid frame Excelsior, and one each Aprilia, Bultaco, Kawasaki, Montesa, and Suzuki. Enjoy the photos.

The first of two classic trials in May was held at a great venue about an hour north of Christchurch. The venue offers superb views across the sea back to Banks Peninsula. The terrain is hilly with grass banks and limestone. This is the third classic trial at this site but last time we were here it was extremely windy to the point most didn't finish the trial. I suspect this is a site that always has some wind, but yesterday the sections were well placed and the day ended up quite warm. Quite a number managed a clean round with Kahu and Kendall staying clean all day. Thanks to Trevor, Wayne and Bo who set the sections for the 30 riders. Welcome to another Trevor riding his first trial with us on a KT, and thanks to Peter who always runs the BBQ and kept us in sausages after the event.
