Fine weather and an impressive turn out of 39 entries for the Annual Cust Reunion Trial held in Canterbury, New Zealand. The trial is held close to the old Cust road racing circuit, home of the New Zealand Grand Prix from 1936 to 1963. After this it moved from the rural gravel roads to a sealed circuit closer to Christchurch. The reunion trial was started when Cust Reunions held racing on the original circuit, and the trial has continued each year since.

A great set of sections including the tree that some struggle to get through each year.

Thanks to the land owner and everyone who contributed to the day by setting sections, organising trophies and giveaways, the barbecue, and drinks.

Old scan from the 1970's, taken with my Mamiya C220. The motorcyclist is taking part in a motorcycly trial where the object is to complete a course without putting your feet down. Points are awarded for a "dab" like this or putting both feet down. For the motorcyclists amongst you, the bike is a Bultaco, probably a 125cc. Most of the trials bikes at the time were Montessa's and Bultaco's.

After the February trial was washed out due to rain, it was great to have a warm sunny day for our March Classic Trial in Canterbury, New Zealand. The event was rewarded with 29 riders attending on a range of classic and modern machines. Straightforward sections with just a couple of sections in the trees responsible for my points. Thanks Travis for letting us use your property. Great to see Trevor joining pre-65 on his BSA for the first time.

Roughly 200 attorneys, judges, and other legal luminaries lent their ears as the Citizenship Law-Related Education Program (CLREP) teamed up with Baltimore’s Stoop Storytelling Series to host “Trials & Tribulations: the Good, the Bad & the Funny in the Practice of Law” on April 1, 2015, at the BWI Marriott. The event – whose featured storytellers included Arnold M. Weiner, Ava E. Lias-Booker, Thiru Vignarajah, Andy Levy, and Ken Ulman – benefited CLREP, MSBA’s educational arm in Maryland’s schools, which administers such programs as the MSBA High School Mock Trial Program, Baltimore City Teen Court, the Maryland Civics and Law Academy, and more. Another great day of Classic Trials in Canterbury, New Zealand, rewarded the organisers with a good turn out to try their hand at the 4 laps of 8 sections. No frost which was great considering we are mid winter. I found the sections tricky, with some getting quite slippery once riders had completed a couple of rounds. Despite this the results showed some close scores and a couple of ties. Thanks to Brent and Shirley for the sections, Peter for the BBQ, Trevor who keeps us all informed, and Lynette for these photos.

The annual Greybeards Trial was held in wet weather for the second year running. Persistent drizzle didn't dampen the enthusiasm of riders assembled at Travis's farm in North Loburn. The Greybeards competition is for riders over 40 only, with bonus points awarded the older the rider is. Our oldest rider, Dick, at 78 years easily won the Bob Harris Memorial for B grade riders, while a more youthful Brent won the Harley Cup for A grade. Although not competing, it was good to be joined by a number of younger riders also trying their hand at the sections. Thanks to Peter who set up the BBQ under a tarpaulin, and Dave, Peter, and Christine who set the excellent sections. After the last two Canterbury trials having damp weather, we are hoping for fine conditions next weekend for our last trial of the year. Enjoy the photos

This is the second Classic Trial in May as we don't have one in June, as many riders go to the Kaikoura 3 Day Trail which is celebrating 75 years this year. This also means many bring out their modern bike for a bit of last minute practice. We have ridden in the Kowai River before, but this year started further downstream where there is better parking. The new location meant a mix of new and old sections to ride. Another great day with warm weather, though a bit cool in the shade, but great considering it is winter. Thanks to Trev who sorted the sections and Peter for the BBQ. Hopefully everyone's skills are honed and they are ready for Kaikoura in two weeks. Enjoy the photos.

Yesterday was the second Pioneer Club twilight trial for this summer, and there was a good attendance from 17 club riders in all grades, plus a number of spectators. The event was held near Christchurch at the Trials Park on the north side of the Waimakariri River and included 3 rounds of 8 sections. Thanks to Ross, Shane, Peter, and Derek for putting the sections in. The Clubman sections I rode were excellent, and the more challenging yellow and red lines were tight, but I was able to watch some great riding with the best riders smoothly riding each obstacle to make these technical sections look easy. There were no mini sections put in, but Liam and Leo looked good on their Vertigo riding the Clubman B sections. Enjoy the photos.
